Truth is, just because someone is gay doesn't mean he'd fancy everyone in the team and everyone in the team shouldn't feel threatened by his homosexuality because the gay person knows the others are married / dating / having fun with girls.

Treating someone different based on something they can't choose or control (sexual preference, skin colour etc) is discrimination.
Be very difficult for whomever comes out. Football fans are unlike any other sport fans - so I don't trust them to not shout some awful crap at the player in the heat of the moment. These guys will have to be mentally strong to deal with this.
What I don't want to hear is one of these players losing their mind or doing something crazy because they can't deal with the pressure - that is the biggest worry in all of this imo...

A woman wouldn't have to be irresistible for me to have a compulsion to ogle the feck out of her in a naked shower situation. I imagine it's the same for gay men and men they shower with. So for that matter, it must be fantastic to be a gay man....I would spend all my spare time in public showers.

If you've ever been to a gym, a swimming pool, a sports club or even just PE at school you've likely shared changing rooms/showers with gay men and not even noticed.

I know. It's not something that bothers me in the slightest. If a gay man wants to look at me naked, good for him. But we should at least avoid kidding ourselves by pretending that a gay man in a communal shower with other men will feel any different to a straight man in a communal shower with a group of women.
If women are allowed to feel insecure about straight men ogling their naked bodies, then insecure straight men should be allowed to feel insecure about gay men ogling their naked bodies. There's no difference.
I get what you're trying to say, but that doesn't excuse the fact that it's still discrimination.
I'm not suggesting that anyone can force someone to shower with someone else and in doing so will fix the problem, just highlighting part of the reason why gay men aren't openly gay in football.

By saying you wouldn't want to share sports facilities with your mates if they come out, you're harming them.
I see this response so often on this forum. Whenever someone makes a remark and in turn gets called bigoted, homophobic etc., people jump in with this line about how he/she is entitled to his/her opinion.
Where has anyone said 'he's not allowed to think that way, he has no right not to shower with gay men and he's not allowed to feel as though he can express his opinion on the matter'? Nobody has said anything like that unless I've missed something reading through the thread, but it doesn't mean can't or shouldn't be called out for what will be perceived by some to be a homophobic statement (in this case).
I think this a brave move by the players, and it'll lead the way for more players to come out.
Some are saying who cares, but in reality those players, up to this moment, still can't live the normal life they want, they fear the abuse from the fans, they fear how it'd affect the relationship with their teammates, and how it might even impact their careers, i'm pretty confident that there're plenty of managers out there that would never sign a gay footballer.
Basically they're about to find out how coming out will impact their lives as footballers, so it is a big deal.

I honestly don't think Manchester is particularly tolerant compared to the rest of the country. Yes there is the gay village but its not exactly a huge area and most from Greater Manchester are unlikely to be aware of it or have visited. Always was full of Uni students when I went. Go a few miles away and the pubs are full of intolerant men cracking jokes but "not meaning any harm" just like any other pub in the country.
