I think some of Winters wording was ill thought out in this case. But in general he is a fantastic football writer.

..and one poor victim of a massive campaign to smear his name and label him as a racist, all led by Meeester Ferguson.
But have we ever had anyone as unpleasant as him playing for us anyway?

The Independent and Sam Wallace think this is "a nightmare of case". In my opinion there is only one outcome in this case.
There is talk about cultural difference's. This subject is irrelevant to the case. Wherever you go in the world you have to follow the law of the country you visit. Not hard to understand. What's the other option?
Some argue that Evra started the argumentation by calling Suarez "South American man" and that this line is also insulting. It is but it's not illegal. But to refer to color or race when you address your opponent, especially after you have tap his/her's head, is both insulting and illegal.
The third defense I heard of is that Evra has a history of using the "rase card", the defense will probably argue that the accuser is a well know user of the "race card". Have you heard this before? Some defense lawyers have a habit of accusing rape victims to act/dress to sexy in a way to devalue the victims character. This defense have no relevance to the case, even if it's true.
The interesting point for me is.
Should the FA judge Suarez the same way a civil court would do or should they argue that in a football game there is other rules? This is what this case is about. Any other verdict then guilty will immediately open the door for Evra to continue to a civil court. Are the FA willing to take that chance and in the future risk to lose their superiority? That's the big challenge for the three man jury.

I'm pretty sure that, though we would've condemn racism, we would've probably protected our player until he was charged for something. I think I would refuse to believe what our player was accused of until he was proven guilty, simply because of my loyalty to United. Racism is a horrible thing, and should never be seen on the pitch (or anywhere for that matter), but I honestly think that most of us would've stand by our player until he was found guilty
There's a huge difference between "standing by your player" or the "innocent until proven guilty" stance compared to some of the disgraceful comments that Liverpool fans and even Liverpool Football Club have been coming out with.
Yes, obviously. But I have no doubts that we would support our player until he's found guilty / innocent, but probably not in such manner as Daglish and Liverpool have done so far. I only wonder what they'll say if he's found guilty. If they still say that 'they support him no matter what' and that he's still 'a saint', then I would say that they are completely mental.
I don't think I would actively support a player under these allegations (considering their strength). In my opinion, most people on here would be thinking along the lines of "He's our player so I won't jump to conclusions but if it's true he's a cnut". Only a few would make excuses for him and probably none to the extent of Liverpool fans.

What I don't get about it is Suarez has spent five years in The Netherlands before he transferred over here so to say "His culture is different!" just seems ridiculous to me. Is racist slurs acceptable in The Netherlands then? Surely if they aren't, he must have learned that such words are not acceptable in European society?
Hard to say. Some might say that Roy Keane played for us - someone who deliberately injured another player and even admitted so in his book afterwards.
Its different to saying something racist but just as bad - i can imagine at the height of the incident non-united fans stating "I'd never want a player who injures another player on my team" - and all the while we were having him as our inspirational captain.
Sometimes we have to accept that footballers are like people, and like people there are all kinds each with their own weaknesses or inappropriate outlooks.
It's a bit like the old 'sticks and stones' verse but the other way around.

This. It's how I've felt all along. Whether Negrito means something else in Uruguay, I doubt that it would be acceptable in England. If they deem that it's not, then I cant see how Suarez is not guilty in this case. It should be interesting to find out the news. Although, I will say, I won't be surprised if Suarez is found not guilty.
I've always felt that the club as well as the fans realize what a key player Luis is for them. If it was some squad player, you think they would care this much? Probably not. They've tried protecting their most prized asset but have seem to somewhat failed and might have even made it worse.....Time will tell.
I still think there's a difference between standing by your player and accusing the accuser. It's like fighting fire with fire. Some liverpool fans have said some disgraceful things and there's no excuse for it under the guise of protecting a player. Especially when you use evidence that isn't true (Evra has accused others of racism before). It just makes you look less credible.
If the situation was in reverse, as much as I'd hate to admit it, I could see some of our fans acting in a similar fashion. I can't speak for everyone but for me, I would stand by our player until he was proven guilty. Additionally, if the evidence was mounting against him, I would be increasingly wary of his chances of being innocent. Now, what 'standing by your player' entails for me is simply expressing why you think said player is not guilty and letting the case take its course. You really get very far by just blaming the accuser.
In some instances, it makes you look as if you're admitting the guilt.

I'm merely saying I've been to Liverpool 2-3 times and I've noticed there are very few black people there, at least compared to Manchester. My two Liverpool supporting friends agreed. Just an observation, that's all.

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez could find out on Tuesday if allegations he racially abused Manchester United defender Patrice Evra have been proved.
The Uruguay international, charged by the Football Association with abusing the Manchester United defender and referring to his "ethnic origin and/or colour and/or race", faced a disciplinary hearing last week.
Suarez has always denied the allegations levelled against him by Evra after the 1-1 draw between the sides at Anfield on October 15, with formal proceedings in front of an independent three-man panel having started on Wednesday.
The FA announced on Friday there would be no announcement on the case before Tuesday at the earliest.
Opinion has been divided on the issue with Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish backing Suarez and Brighton manager Gus Poyet, a former Uruguay international midfielder, saying he would go to court to prove his fellow countryman was not a racist.
Fulham manager Martin Jol has also revealed he would be shocked if the charges against Suarez were proved. Jol worked with Suarez over an 18-month period during his time as Ajax manager and would be taken aback if the charges against the 24-year-old are found proved.
"If it is true, I certainly am [surprised]," the Dutchman said.
"At Ajax we had players from all over the world, with all the continents involved and he was good with them all.
"He was my captain and you can imagine I told him it was his job to make them feel comfortable. If it is true, I can't believe it."
But United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has backed Evra and claimed Liverpool were following a specific agenda over the issue.
