FC Bayern 2015/16

ehh, not impressed. If they face Real or Atletico, don't think they can win over 2 legs.

Mark of a great team to play that dreadfully against a top side and still turn around a deficit like that. But if they have that kind of 70mins against Barca or Real, it could get ugly.

Real are really not that good they might be the 5th best team left in the competition. And Bayern might have just eliminated a stronger side(who beat Real last season).

Not convinced they'd beat Barca, but excellent comeback which leaves them with a chance.

You might be right. But Real Madrid are still the quickest team in transition. Bayern on an off day could be a perfect opponent for them.

An Atletico side that needed penalties to beat PSV.

More than capable of beating the two Madrid team who were both largely unimpressive.

The most entertaining team in Europe. Not the best - Barca is marginally better, but certainly the most fun to watch

Spot on. Real Madrid are nothing to be feared. They've of course got as much of a chance as any non-Barça side but they don't deserve to be in a tier above Bayern.

Why has Thiago been benched a lot lately, lack of form? Always impresses me.

I would put my bet on Real to win against Bayern. They are the sort of teams Real likes, don't see any chance of Bayern to beat Real. Not with Pep's horrible away record. Juve beat Real because they didn't allow Real to play on counter.

Robben out injured, Costa and Ribery on the pitch and Coman off the bench. Sweet mercy.

How good is Douglas Costa? Only watched from the 2nd half onwards, but I loved how he was demanding the ball all the time and leading their attacks.

Isn't he just back from injury?

Juve had them on the ropes in the first half, morata had a hell of a game. When he got subbed off juve looked toothless and it allowed Bayern to get back in the game.
If Cuadrado had scored the sitter to make it 3-0, juve would be laughing now.

Douglas Costa had a brilliant 2nd half, his inswinging crosses were giving juve nightmares.

Cant rule Bayern out - they have a solid core with a top keeper and a goal scoring machine

Guys, don't get carried away here. We haven't become good in 30 minutes time. We surprised Juventus in the first match, got punished when they actually reacted to our playstyle. Juventus continued to do so in the rematch and just got beaten because their rather mediocre wide players couldn't keep up with Costa's and Coman's pace for 120 minutes. And we still didn't look convincing and nearly went out.
Thi is actually the first time that Pep has beaten a serious contender while coaching Bayern and it was neck on neck. Playing against nay of Atletico, Real or Barcelona, we will be out of the competition unless Pep fundamentaly changes things.

The first half was poor from him - struggled on the right and had a lot of his "Robben-eqsue" shots blocked. Played much better after Pep moved him centrally

Does anyone still think Vidal is a drunk? Because if he can play like that for 120 minutes while being a drunk, then I wonder how much he can do when he's sober. fecking epic performance by him, what a warrior. Really glad that I was completely wrong with my criticism about him after the first half of the season. He has been sensational in recent weeks and was outstanding in both legs against Juve.

Keaneesque performance from him - and against Juve too!
Congratulations btw, you must feel so good right now

Yeah i think Bayern can beat anyone. I would only have them underdogs against Barca. And not because Barca are better but more so because of the MSN upfront.

Epic, epic tie. What a fecking rollercoaster both games were and both teams played at times brilliant football. Easily the best CL knockout tie since Robben's wondergoal against United in 2010. fecking awesome.

Maybe, I don't follow Bayern that much, just seen him on the bench a few times lately.

Had some poorer matches and Vidal was in great form lately. If we play with Müller and Lewy - there is only two places in midfield.

Bayern seemed to not have much of a plan. Sideways passing, crossing, and long-range shooting. The increase in temp you need i you're playing possession never really came. They wore Juve down, pounced on their errors, and rode their luck. The game was won as much by Allegri's self-destruction as anything.
Of course Boateng and Robben were missing but so were Dybala and Chiellini (and Marchisio). Thiago should have started maybe.

Now, I hope Bayern beat Barca. Don't want any team to repeat the CL :D

Is Alonso essential?

only to Pep i guess. Didnt really had the chance to watch Bayern this season but whenever i watched them last season he was awful and if he wasnt at the club im pretty sure that Bayern would go all the way.

Is Alonso essential?

I am absolutely, completely biased so don't take me too seriously, but once again we came to live today once Alonso was out of our way. I know the entire team was crap and I know Juve went into their shell but good grief, we just looked so much sharper without him.... so no, I think he's not essential in any way.

but in all honesty, given the financial outlay, given the situation with German rivals and the team he inherited I think it's fair to say Pep hasn't made the progress Bayern expected
i disagree. While the team won the CL under Heynckes, that was due to all players playing their hearts out for the coach in his last year, and to eradicate the disgrace of the home final loss the year before. It was sort of a once-in-a-lifetime effort, possibly unrepeatable under the same coach.
In that time, if Bayern didn't have Ribery and/or Robben, it was just an above-average team.
Under Pep, Bayern gained dominance and consistency pretty much independent from most key players availability (bar Neuer or Lahm maybe), and evolved its playstyle. Of course, in the end of the day they expect titles like every top team, but the things i mentioned were clearly also Peps tasks.

I agree with both of you, but I hadn't seen enough Bayern to comment properly. Don't let FCBarca hear us criticise a decision of (literally) his god though.

With Thiago you should always assume he is just coming back from injury.
he sort of shares his job with Vidal, based on the opponent i recon. As Vidal seems finally to find his spot in the Bayern team, there is the luxury to not overplay Thiago so shortly after coming back from such a long injury period. Vidal certainly has the upper hand when there is very physical midfield battle to be expected.
I enjoy Thiagos play immensly. Almost every ball contact is a piece of art :)

Way more annoying than Alonso in the starting line-up is the fecking obsession with fullbacks cutting into CM and wingers staying wide. Both Ribery and Costa were isolated on the wing while Alaba and Lahm ran into a fecking crowded area where they couldn't influence the game. So stupid. There are opponents when it's an interesting tactical variation that makes sense, but today certainly wasn't one. In fact, it hurt us big time, because it's more difficult for the fullbacks to get back into their defensive shape.

"Pepism"

He's pretty crap now really. Was awful in his final season at Madrid - seemed to pick up again from all accounts at the start of his Bayern career but regressed again.

Don't think he should be playing as much as he is personally, Thiago is far better...If less disciplined admittedly.

Little things like this is why I think I am going to enjoy Bayern play a lot more under Ancelotti.

He was absolutely fantastic in both legs against us :(. I think he's still valuable, but he shouldn't play as much as he does and he should sit out against certain teams or only come in late in the game if we need more control.
