Sorry, what I was meant to say was that we haven't had the best results there in the last 5 years or so in the Prem and the couple or so we have won were hard thought wins.

Anyhoo. Someone linked this http://www.premierleague.com/staticFiles/4f/53/0,,12306~152399,00.pdf in the United kits thread and saw something interesting listed - the pitch sizes.

Our pitch is 105 meters length and 68 meters wide. Fulham is 100 meters length and 65 meters wide. Didn't know pitches could be different lengths. Only Stoke's is smaller at 100 x 64.

Only found it interesting because in another discussion I was having, I asked that isn't Craven Cottage fairly narrow meaning in that we can't use our width as effectively and thus maybe why we'd be more inclined to say play with 3 CM as it is fairly crowded with the pitch being narrower.

That was what i ment. As i said i normally like Oshea and think he is solid but he lost possesion easily in the early stages of the game another team than Newcastle would have capitalized from imo. At this time of the year its normal though and as a defender errors are more likely to be critiziced. If Wayne doesnt score everyone accept he isnt sharp yet. I am sure OShea will play an important part this season as always when fit but i can see SAF give Rafael a chance against Fulham.

That's interesting. Is there a minimum and maximum since many fields have different dimensions? Surprised FIFA doesn't enforce a "same for all" rule.
 
My guess is length wise 100 meters minimum but, yeah bit surprised there isn't a regulation size pitch.
 
Anyone else a bit worried about Dembele? He's a big coup for Fulham, and he can do some damage on his day. Given how Evans in particular struggles with players who run directly at the defence (to some extent) I have to say I'm a bit worried, especially given how we've done against them at Craven Cottage recently(2 losses in 2 seasons, and we had to rely on a very late winner in 06/07 from Ronaldo).

Yes, plus i have no problem with the different sized pitches it adds an extra dimension to the game I think Celtic park is easily the biggest in Scotland and Nou camp biggest in Spain and Arsenal one of the biggest in England and these three treams probably play the most expansive football in their respective leagues. Fifa would struggle to make pitches all the same size due to stadia around certain pitches.

They got that Dembele guy that I haven't seen but, it seems like from people that have - he would be a worry for us, which implies that it will make it hard for AJ to get back in when he is back.

The non-injured AJ I think is more than good enough for this Fulham squad - just don't see it happening

Is there any other sport that allows different dimensions? I know baseball can have different outfield distances but the base paths are always the same everywhere. Basketball courts, gridiron football fields and hockey rinks are always the same dimensions, at least I think they are.

basketball courts and hockey rinks are similarly sized but gridiron fields are much bigger wink
 
Can some kind American poster tell me if this is on in the USA and what channel it may be on? Can't miss a game.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's Owen or Macheda on the bench ahead of Hernandez tomorrow. With it being a smaller pitch it's going to be a tighter game with less room behind the back four. Berbatov will be key in this game with his hold up play. Wouldn't be surprised to see Park get some minutes aswell.

I agree. We should play Scholes as much as possible right now. He could the the reason for an unbeaten start to the season.

Haha. All US gridiron fields are 120 yards in length, of which 100 yards is the length between goal lines. There are no other lengths allowed.

Widths are almost always the same, around 54 yards wide. Every field consists of hash marks a yard between each with yard lines every five yards.

The posts vary according to level, youth through pro, getting thinner as the level increases. There are no exceptions that allow this school to have a longer or wider field than that school, or this pro team over that pro team. ;)

Keep in mind I'm a Texan and grew up playing this sport and still follow the sport almost as feverishly as world football.
