Gareth Bale is...The most expensive player ever?!

2 years younger than Suarez? Suarez has ability Bale can only dream of having

Messi and Ronaldo yeah I agree. Bale can't reach the level of Suarez? of course he can there isn't much between them at the moment and Bale's 2 years younger.

What ability does Suarez possess that Bale can only dream about? I'm interested....and I'm serious.

Touch, control, awareness, the ability to free himself from the tightest of spaces keeping the ball.

Bales a speed merchant with a decent shot.

He most certainly is not in the top five in the pl.

Rvp
rooney
mata
Aguero
Silva
Tevez
In no particular order there are six better than bale straight off the top of my head.

Have you seen city recently? Tevez is decent but nothing special and Silva had a decent first 6 months to his city career and has been dire since. Im always baffled that people rate Silva so highly based of the start of last season, hes a cracking player no doubt but isnt the best in his ilk in the league. I would also add Suarez to that list.

Give over.

I agree with your assessment of Suarez but Bale possesses all of those attributes. You can't dribble the ball as he does, at pace, without supreme balance and control of the ball. He doesn't just kick and rush there is a lot more subtlety to it. His awareness is terrific! He is always looking over his shoulder or where his markers are......identifying the space to exploit. As for moving out of tight spaces he just does it in a different manner to Suarez.

I honestly don't think you can justify that claim to be frank with you.

Bale can dribble as well as Suarez? I don't see it myself.

No he can't. Infact noone in the league can apart from probably Ben Arfa. But Bale has other strengths. He's quicker and hence more explosive, is much better in wide areas and has more physical presence.

I'd say Suarez is the better player but its not all about touch and technique. For example, Gerrard at his best wasn't the best in terms of touch and guile but he was explosive and a brilliant player.

Very harsh. You jus described Aaron Lennon. Bale is technically not as gifted a Suarez but he does most things effectively. And he has much more than a decent shot, his left foot is lethal. And he's naturlly a wide player so those strengths (crossing etc) also have to be taken into account.

In addition he seems to be generally improving at a rapid rate. So it will be interesting to see how far he can go.

Sadly I don't think he will ever play for us. He turned us down before and I really doubt Fergie would ever go back in for a player that has rejected us.

Its lethal now, whether it will ever be consistently lethal is another question, but people can't wait to find that out so they're just getting over excited now.

I wouldnt say I described Lennon, when has his shooting ever been anything other than mediocre?

Nah you're overrating Suarez.

The notion that Bale is a speed merchant is frankly bullshit. In the match today itself, he was literally carrying the Spurs attack and should've scored a hattrick.

His game is continuously progressing, I won't be surprised if he adds tricks to his repertoire in the next two-three years.

One thing that really needs to improve in comparison to all his others assets is close control in tight spaces. He has improved every single thing of his game bar that IMHO

Not much of a difference between mediocre and decent.

I'm not sure he really needs to. I see him in the Gerrard mould of footballer who is explosive and impacts games in a big way but isn't technically gifted like the top technicians. Which is why I said I don't see him being a really elite footballer but then those players are rare. Then again, if he keeps improving his goal scoring abilities you never know. But I doubt it.

I mean, Gerrard and Lampard have been great players but we they never ever fantastic in tight spaces?

At the time I was so mesmerised by this bit of skill and the preceding nutmeg that I didn't even notice that awful two-footed lunge. Just makes it even better that it managed to evade such a thuggish tackle.

.... Bales a speed merchant with a decent shot.

You must eternally find the world a baffling place, like a two-dimensional being living in a four dimensional universe.

Managers left, right and centre lauding Bale to the skies. .... how inexplicable it all is for you.

Is Bale still closer to the world's best XI than Rooney?

At one point I seem to remember him spaying a beautiful 40 yard pass across the pitch to Lennon. There is quite a lot of Bale denial going on in here. As you say, he is improving every season, this being his best yet, he would be fecking dynamite for a top team. I bet that SAF would pay 45m for him if Levy would accept.

They were lauding Scott Parker and Andy Carroll at various points too. I don't need the clowns at sky to make my mind up. I make my own mind up

I suppose it's somewhat ironic that with Bale, it's always polemic.

And with each great performance from Bale, your mind becomes ever more firmly made up .... as in closed and pre-determined.

you're right. I don't think he's one of the best players in the world, and I knew before hand a scoring run wouldn't change my mind. Many players hit purple patches.

But then I'm debating it with a Spurs fan who is looking at it with rose tinted specs.

15 goals in his last 18 games for club and country, from someone who does not play as a striker. Not to mention the countless goal-scoring chances he's created for others.

To dismiss it all as a mere "purple patch" is typical of your increasingly silly assertions about a player who has been attracting global attention for quite some while now.

Delightful! Missed that one completely. He has lovely control of a football.

I love it when a complete berk manages to make a fool of himself with a reckless tackle.

They bought him from Southampton, wouldn't call him a product of their youth system.

What is this nonsense of him being up there with Messi & Ronaldo, those two have scored more goals in their last 6 months than this guy probably has in his own career. Probably not even top 5 of this league let alone worthy of comparison to those two.

Deservedly or not, he will probably be the player of the season

Even though I despite the cnut Robin Van Persie has been head and shoulders above every player in the league this season, the reason why you're top and the reason why your lot are going to win the title.

hey, he got the player of the season when he was thoroughly undeserving of it. I'd say that means theres a very good chance he'll get it this season. All goes back to what I've been saying about media favourites and media hype of British players.

Sorry mate, had to sign off......yeh I was thinking Nani or Valencia, most probably Nani as he is more versatile. Not sure if being Portuguese would heighten preference for Villas-Boas.

I doubt it would happen either, although with it being a deal of such magnitude it is possible. Depends on the exchange player as much as anything. Levy may see the attraction in attaining a talented replacement in the deal, plus the excessive transfer fee on top for re-directing into other areas. Think Damiao is all but signed on for the summer but they could do with strengthening their midfield also.

Often when a team loses it's driving force or matchwinner, they compensate in a more collective manner. If they lose Bale they need to make sure all areas of their squad are tight.

My turn to apologize. :) Fell asleep after the City game.

I'd be lying if I said I haven't thought along those lines. Nani's situation is weird, from what I have gathered, the move to Russia failed to materialize due to his wage demands. Spurs are the not the best paymasters, so it makes wonder if they can offer a wage packet big enough to lure Nani. He is most likely gone in the summer, I doubt it is as part of a package to Spurs. I cannot envisage anyone besides the moneybags from Russia willing to pay him more than £120k, that we reportedly offered. Nani situation has all the makings of a frustrating summer for us.

Anyways, if Nani leaves I would prefer we replace him by a more versatile wide player than Bale. If our future direction is towards a more fluid, possession based football than we need a more compact player than Bale. However, If we want to continue with counter-attacking football then there aren't many players better suited than Bale at the moment.

Would rather spend 40-50 mil on Wilshere, if we ever did.

Bale is brilliant too though.
