Gareth Bale is...The most expensive player ever?!

Defensively he needs work. I don't think he's great in a two man midfield.



Edit: What has Bale done at the top level? I'd love to know his stats vs. teams from the top 4. If someone mentions Inter Milan I'll rip their feckin arms off.

Well he'a already established as one of the top wingers in our league. He's a similar age to clev and far more established. Like I said he'a been overhyped but he's still done more that clev who also gets overhyped.

Daniel Welbeck is a 21 year old striker with a goal scoring rate of 0.25 in the best legue in the world.

Cleverely is still an enigma, but he's played well in every game I've seen him in. He is a very good goalscoring midfielder, (hasn't happened ith the first team yet)

Bale a a winger scores a goal every 5.5 games for Spurs and set up 33
Nani has scored one every 5.3 games for United and set up 49 goals

Bale - 161 games, 33 assists, 29 goals An asisst every 4.8 games, and a goal every 5.5 games

Nani - 191 games, 49 assists, 37 goals An asisst every 3.8 games, and a goal every 5.1 games.

Bale isn't in the elite bracket in my opinion, he's not far off though.

Nani doesn't get the ball as much. You can twist that one as much as you want. I believe I read that Bale fired most shots in the PL last season, but also missed the most. If he was our player and misused the amount of chances that he has, we would be fuming in here. He's twice as frustrating as Nani.

No doubt he is a good player, but I rate Valencia and Nani above him.

Nani is a better dribbler and has a better shot but you get the impression that Bale is much more of a winner than Nani and is the type of player that never gives less than 100% and is more of a team player too.
So overall I think Bale in this moment would be a much bigger asset to a team than Nani even if Nani can be more exciting when he turns it on. I hope Nani has got the kick up the ass he needed now to kick on from here though and kick start his dwindling career.

I'm not even sure that Bale is faster than Nani at all. Nani's acceleration is certainly superior to that of Bale's. Bale is MR. Inconsistency, so I can't see how you can come up with that.

I actually think Bale's speed was overhyped after the Maicon incident. He's fast, no doubt, but Rafael matched him on a longer sprint (25 yards or so) a couple of times.

No I think that's the only bit of his post that IS true. Bale is quicker than Nani.

Suppose his push and run tactics have made an impression.
 
Even if he played well today there are still some ugly side to his football.This willingness to just run like a headless chicken with the ball when sometimes a look up could help see better passing or crossing opportunities

Nani's a wonderful player in general but no player in this planet is more frustrating than him.

Based on what? Nani's improved his defensive game and Bale's 'on another level' defensive qualities are usually exposed whenever he's played full back.

Everton went on a brilliant unbeaten run with Gibson in the first team and that, as much as I like him, doesn't make him a great player.

Gibson - Not a great player for United but great player for Everton (Because he is but that is for another thread).

Bale - Can be a Great player for Spurs but i doubt he would be as good for a top team because he is a one trick pony.

He was suspect at Fullback though which is why they made him a winger.
 
Bale has got qualities that will shine more in the PL than say in Spain.I think with experience and as he matures he will (or have to) add some variety to his game, develop his short passing, his close dribbling.
He's a bit overrated by medias but he's got some undeniable potential to be a great player

Not at all. He is a guaranteed starter. The composure he brings to the team is something else. Just watch the Villa game and you''d see that when he came off the whole team was lacking the control on the game again. Big blow that he's out.

I don't think that's really fair, we've seen Jesus Navas tear apart the champions just last night by doing exactly what Bale does - that kind of pace and directness can be devastating against any team.

If he was to sign for this club... alot of people's opinions on him would be less critical. He wasn't just good against Inter.. he had a decent game v Real too.

He can be predictable but in a team full of strong attacking players, he'd have far more space and less attention, making him a greater threat. Also don't understand the criticism of the fact he's trying to add more dimensions to his game.. surely its something to be encouraged in a footballer?

Bottom line is that Bale is overhyped and underrated in equal measure, put simply he's a good player that would be a good signing for most of Europe's elite teams and whether he becomes a great player is purely down to whether his desire to better himself actually bears fruition. He's got a long way to go though... needs to improve his free-kicks, footwork, right foot and creativity in terms of through balls once he has cut in off the flank.

Nobody is denying his talents, and if we needed a winger, he'd be one of my first choices, but doesnt mean he's not over rated.

I read some article where they put that performance alongside Keane vs. Juventus, McGrath vs Italy etc.


Thing is, that Inter side were a shambles that season, and Spurs still fecking lost.

He scored off a complete mishit, and it was Lennon that did most of the attacking(facing 35 year old Ian Harte). Not sure why Bale is getting so many kudos.
