Gareth Bale is...The most expensive player ever?!

Stop it.

That said, I'd be impressed with him if his efforts result in Tottenham getting a top 4 finish, or if they make 5th, for him to stay at Tottenham, do well in the Europa league, and ensure they get to 4th.

This raises the question...should we be hoping that Chelsea secure 4th place on the basis that we'd have a greater chance of signing Bale?

In Rafa we trust!

It was the ball every player would have played, and it came off because of City's comical attempt to play offside.

I know Bale's a really good player, but I knew if I spoke my mind the reaction to downplaying a pass from the caf's favourite son would be hilarious

Remember the goal Aguero scored at Old Trafford when everyone said 'Why did no-one tackle him?" That reminded me of some of Bale's goals when genuinely no-one has tackled him but strangely the reaction on the caf was rather different to him than Aguero :wenger:

Are you always this boring? Give it a rest. The pass had to be inch perfect to beat Kompany and still reach Dempsey. A lesser player might've considered it too difficult or simply failed to execute it. It was a peach of a pass.

 True.

The United fan in me would want that to happen, so he'd join us (but not for 50 million or some other ridiculous price), but it's nice seeing players put their heads down, and ensuring their teams reach the Champions League, instead of running away once their efforts are insufficient.

You've never played football then. It didn't have to be perfect because City held their line trying to be clever and play offside, Kompany went for it when it was too late. I dount there's another player in the league who could roll the ball across the area (the only thing to do really) and get singled out for such special praise.

I find the 'leave my boy alone' responses fecking boring too to be honest.

Pretty poor game from really, although he still pulled out two pieces of brilliance. I'm struggling to see why people wouldn't want him here for anything less than £50m.

With the incredibly poor form of three attackers in Valencia Young and Nani for the last 9 months, I'm struggling to see why anyone would question anyone wanting Bale...not that it's remotely realistic.

Showed good character today, wasn't at his best but he produced the goods when needed. The more he does that, the harder it'll be not to rate him amongst the best.

Class player who could achieve a lot, unfortunately he comes at an insane premium now and is likely to have to wait for a move to a club who will offer serious success, because whilst Spurs might make the CL...their squad is still a bit thin on quality in some places.

It's a good/fairly standard assist made spectacular by the fact he executes it with the outside of his boot.

His technique with his left foot is superb.

You're boring, go away.

Didn't watch the game but for him to come back from that injury and score proves his worth. He is over rated to be compared to Ronaldo like the media do and Nani should have beaten him to PFA player of the year 2 years ago as he had double the goals and 18 assists, BUT, you'd take him wouldn't you. Don't want to let Nani go but Young can go and even Valencia over Nani IMO.

Doubt we'll get him but SAF must be licking his lips.

Whilst I'm not advocating that Snake Plissken be banned, I'm just curious what differences the mods see in his posting in this thread when compared to kietotheworld's posting in the DDG thread.

I'm sure there are a few who'd genuinely like that for voicing my opinion and spoiling the party. I get a laugh out of it obviously, but that's mainly because reading about him here you'd have thought he was a United legend

Can't see us spending the big money being mentioned for Bale based off pretty much one season. Too many aren't living in the real world if they believe there's a chance we'd do that.

Most people understand that...but football fans will always want the best players to sign for their team. At the moment Bale is hot property and every fan in the world would want him to join their team.

His form has been inconsistent up until this season, but he's shown plenty of glimpses of quality since he was switched to an out and out left winger by 'Arry. It's harsh to brand all the talk on this season alone. This year has been that 'everything falling into place' year, not quite Ronaldo 06/07 but similar.

Everyone seems to want to mention how we should be in for him etc., but when it comes to bringing up the price and how unlikely it is, nobody wants to know. There's a very real problem stannding between the likelyhood of us signing him and not doing, and thats the price. He's got to be in the top 5 most unrealistic signings for us due to this.

I know it suits to call this and Ronaldos 06/07 years their 'everything falling into place' years, but Ronaldo has actually kept it up for 6 years since then. Bale has to prove he can do it again.

Interesting to see how the Caf's changed its tune.

It wasn't that long ago that the suggestion that Bale could be better than Nani was laughed at.

The year Bale won the POTY Nani was better than him, but I'm happy to admit that Bale has surpassed my expectations and has left Nani in his wake.

I guess the point to glean from it is that making bold predictions about young players' potential is plain stupid.

Some players improved, some don't. So 'changed its tune' is expected. Vidic and Evra were shit on their first season.

I can't believe a player would be stupid enough to sign a long term contract without making sure the release clause was a realistic valuation, and not the absurd numbers being thrown around, especially when dealing why a man like Levy.

Contracts are never worth the paper they're written on though.

All it would take is Bale refusing to play for them, and he'd soon be on his way.

He needs to go to a bigger club though. Probably not Barcelona though as they do have a habit of ruining big signings.

If Spurs get top 4 this year there's no chance he'll be leaving. Even if they don't it's getting more and more unlikely because his value just keeps increasing.

Not so sure whats interesting about that observation rednev? A couple of years go, Nani WAS better than Bale. Bale's gone up a couple of levels, Nani hasn't so it's easy to admit Bale's better.

Only the really blinkered would still think otherwise.

Nani was one of the best players in the league a couple of seasons ago. He was voted the best player at United by our own players in a title winning season. He has gone markedly downhill since then. Bale on the other hand, this season especially, has improved beyond measure. It isn't a case of 'the CAF changing its tune', it is more a case the players changing theirs.

About 8-9 months ago, while I was still a newbie, I raved about Bale. (I raved about Bale before Spurs picked him up, but that was another forum that is now defunct.) and some morons on this board, who somehow had the privilege of going on the newbie board, blasted the shit out of me for suggesting that Bale > Nani.

Well, I stand by my assertion then and now: Bale > Nani.

I still believe Nani has some game, but Nani is no Gareth Bale.

Kie wasn't banned for his opinions.

If that was Rooney playing like Bale, we would have the most ambigious discussion on here now; some claiming he is world class because he scores the vital goal and creates the brilliant assist. However, at the same time, his link-up play and short passing was nothing short of atrocious.

Imo, he played below average, but he has the ability, like Rooney, to turn up with important assists and goals. Therefore, any discussion concerning the two would cause controversy. Both are quality players, but imo they are just that notch below world class players because their technique, first touch and passing are too erratic.

That said, would I take Bale - yes I would!

God damn, don't upset the Nani fanboys...they have many strong members and some have POWER.

Kompany stopped because the ball was undefendable. He was stretching to have any hope of getting it and if he touched it, it was very likely to end up in an own goal.

Nah Kompany's at fault here. There was little pace on the ball, had Kompany not got himself in a mess (as Hansen astutely pointed out for once), it would have been straightforward to cut out.

When considering buying a star player from a Premier league team, we're gonna have to factor in the extra money clubs will have next season.
There is bound to be big inflation in player valuations.

The Bundesliga will be seeing similar increases, so that will likely strain the market further.
Bale to a Prem team? I'd guess £60-70 million.
And yes, that is obscene.

He had a quiet game but did what big players do, had two big moments in the game that turned the tide and then sealed the win for his team.

He's coming (I hope). I could honestly see us going for him with us offering money + Nani

I would wank myself silly if we got him and a quality CM. we'd be set for another Premiership and a good CL run.

Calm down, lads. He just wants us to twat Arsenal and Chelsea.

He'll cost about 50M. But I don't care.

Realistically, Bale plus De Rossi = perfect summer.
