Gareth Bale is...The most expensive player ever?!

Hardly, they're better than your team and finished 4th season.

I am not a Utd fan so will look at things a tad more objectively than you. Sure you were better than Spurs but Spurs aren't at Utd's level. Nowhere near.

And I am not sure what Spurs-Utd game has to do with Liverpool. Save your dick measuring for someone who's interested.

Because you doubled up on him.

.

Not the case I'm afraid Sam, Rafael won pretty much every one on one against him, some surprisingly easy.

Bale may have got the better of him once or twice.

Save your drivel for places other than this forum then. And comment on games you actually watch.

You guys really only want Utd cheerleaders on this forum, don't you?

Put me on ignore if a little objectivity hurts that much.

It's not objectivity Sam, you're just well off the mark on this one. Beforehand, I'll admit, having looked at the lineups, I thought we had set out to counter the threat of Bale. But within 10 minutes of the match it was evident that Rafael was dealing with him perfectly well all on his own, when he had to. Of course, the team always defends as a unit so it's no usual for others help out when need be. But not more so than was the case with Lennon on the other flanks.

And I think opposition fans add a lot of perspective at times to this place, but this time I think you're definitely wrong.

Fair enough. I am only commenting on what I saw.

No, but you're a Liverpool fan. You're not really in a position to say you're more objective, just by throwing the fan card out there, because if that's the defining factor in objectivity - it blatantly isn't - then you're heavily biased as well, being a Liverpool fan.

Just outright saying you're more objective than any random sod on here is ridiculous, really. It makes the assumption based on one simple criteria...and yet it's a criteria you don't score too highly on either!

You bring it up all the time too...'oh i'm so objective, I've got such a clear perspective of it all, I can take a step back and ignore my basic emotions when watching football so much better than you(even though I don't know who you are)'...give it a break lad.

I definitely have no qualms being wrong! Maybe I am in this case.

Apologies for getting a bit aggro.

Still think he's a top talent (Bale that is). His game is brilliantly suited for this league. What he has is a great combination to have in this league for attacking players, which is pace and power. He's not a small chap who you can brush off easily so that should hold him in good stead.

On the other hand, it also goes to show how underrated Rafael is. I think he's the best young talent at our club and he never gets any hype. Probably because he's a defender. Or because everytime his name is mentioned commentators seem more inclined to comment on the 'fabio ring' joke rather than his performance.

Thanks for that, Brwned. Excellent.

Really good.

Rafael is obviously improving going backwards as he has never had a problem going forward. If he really did keep Bale quiet predominantly on his own, well done him. Bale is player du jour.

As an aside, has he had his hair straightened? Or has he stopped having it permed?

Which was obviously about 5 minutes on MOTD, you massive bellend.

Unfortunately I have Virgin and they don't seem to want to take ESPN from me.

Now easy on the insults and we can all be friends.

For some reason I find it less gay to have the hair straightened than to have it permed, so I'll go with the first choice.

I think the two are linked.

In his last few games he's been relatively unadventurous going forwards, whilst much improved defensively. He's obviously under strict instructions to focus on getting the defensive part of his game locked down before he can begin to express himself.

Any theories on his hair?

Also any theories on why he has developed better than Fabio? Injuries?

Any theories on his hair?

Perhaps he's stopped eating his greens and the crust on his bread?

Also any theories on why he has developed better than Fabio? Injuries?

Yea, I think that's a factor. Also because Rafael has had plenty of games because of a dearth of top class options on the right, while Fabio has been competing against the God-like Paddy Evra.

Injuries certainly play their part. Fabio has had a lot of injuries since he joined us, and unfortunately they often seem to be just when he would actually get a few games.

The other main reason would simply be that our right back position is up for grabs, with Rafael, Brown, O'Shea and Neville all taking turns. Something tells me this is the year Rafael is going to make it his own. On the other side, Fabio is only competing with one person (two if you count O'Shea), but it's somebody who is arguably the best in the world in that position and rarely gets injured.

Bang on the money there Brwned.

I thought Rafael had a very good game. Was surprised to see him taken off - he'd probably just run himself into the ground (maybe one for the chalkboards). Not the first time he's nullified a top attacking player so we shouldn't be too surprised. Not a bad trait to have at such a young age.

According to Sultan - who was at the game - he picked up a knock.

Tried to run it off but Rio signalled to the bench to make the substitution a few minutes later.

Barca the latest to show interest in Bale

I can only imagine they would see him as a left back because he'd get nowhere near their side playing in midfield.

What would Bale's defensive frailties matter of the opposition never have the ball....
