Gareth Bale is...The most expensive player ever?!

Will he?

In case you haven't noticed Spurs are top of their CL group and look odds-on to reach the knock-out stages.

Dream on sunshine.

Spurs are 5th now and in case you haven't noticed they play Arsenal, Chavs, Pool and Birmingham Away prior and after their CL matches.

There's a good chance they will fall in the rankings. And since the odds-on of Spurs winning CL are not that high, I don't think Spurs can keep the same level in those 2 competitions week in and week out.

There's bigger chance of you lot finishing top 4 than keeping Bale in the Summer(not necessarily we'd get him).

Well I did exactly the same. Didn't really see the point missing out on good football when United were crusing through a dire game.

Another one.

To each his own, obviously, but I can't even begin to understand that mentality.

The modern football fan is a very diverse bunch but there's a peculiar new cohort who seem to have an expectation to be entertained above all else. The football fan as consumer. There's a thread about that somewhere, come to think of it.

Takes all sorts though. Vive la difference, I guess.

I wouldn't be too bolshy. Top four is not guaranteed for you by a long shot, and it's a big climb-down to have to go play Europa League football next year.

Away days to Lech Poznań are nowhere near as attractive to a young ambitious player.

Tell you what, he reminds me of a young Lee Sharpe.

Oh feck off. We watched the United game because we support United, we also felt like watching the Spurs game as well cos it promised to be a good game and we could. It's nothing to do with the insinuated selfish pursuit of "being entertained above all else" it's to do with wanting to watch some good football when we can because we're football fans you muppet. In this modern technological age it's perfectly possible

Spare us the patronising.

Bit harsh that sorry, but the veiled digs are ridiculous. Who the feck are you to imply we're nouveux consumer fans who demand entertainment cos we watched a bit of another game whilst ours was on? Where were you Saturday? etc etc etc. Not a wise argument to start mate.

How dare people watch two different football matches at the same time.

I enjoy watching as much football as I can, especially as a young coach.. I like to learn as much as I can from various styles of teams, players etc so I'm always willing to watch games other than if only United are playing.

United have always been my team but doesn't mean I have to stay on their game exclusively for 90 minutes, when the wonders of modern technology allows me to simultaneously watch both games at the same time.

You see it as a football fan who is a consumer, I see it as a football fan who has a thirst for knowledge, likes broadening his horizons and appreciating football not only on his own patch but from further afield too.

Football fundamentalists... not my cup of tea I'm afraid.

What's the harm watching both matches in parallel? There are modern technologies like picture in picture, or watching two matches at the same time is like doing two chicks at the same time(considered cheating)?:D

I can't really watch two games simultaneously. Or rather, if I do, it hampers my enjoyment of both, as I can't concentrate or get into either of them. Do you not find that? (Plus my internet connection is shite)

Calm down dear. I'm not judging, just observing.

I've no intention of getting into a contest about who's the better fan. I'm fecked if I do, I haven't been to a game all season.

I think I'm allowed to make an observation though. I think it IS strange for United fans to choose to watch another game instead (or even simultaneously, whatever) because we were "cruising" (as Raees claimed) But that's obviously my personal opinion. It might be entirely normal to loads of other people. No need to get so defensive.

Word Raees, not seen you around much recently.

Well its because I haven't had Wifi in quite a long time hence the absence of me on Skype and what not... thankfully all fixed now. Nice to see you too Elmo.

If you love football that much you should subscribe to sky+. You won't regret it.

Oh and that "thirst for knowledge" line is nonsense. Be like learning about jazz by listening to two different musicians at the same time, one through each headphone.

Two really good games yes. Though since I have to write about the CL most weeks and will always miss out on one I've trained myself to be a bit multi-taksed with it...but it's not that hard anyway really. You watch the one you're most interested in (The United one in this case) but with the volume of the other high enough for you to switch attention when something interesting is obviously happening (crowd noise, commentator getting excited) .. With our game being pretty shit, this meant a quick turn of the head to some Bale rapage was quite happily viewable without missing anything from Turkey.

Cruising means in my defence... the fact I knew we were playing 4-5-1 from the beginning and I could tell we are softening them up for the second half.. hence the lack of whingeing from me unlike others on the Matchday thread of 'oh this is shit etc'. I knew exactly how we'd set out to play, with Berba up front.. chill and then kill game second half.

Kept my eye on both games though I obviously paid a tad more attention to the Inter game because its such a rare fixture from two very well known teams.. not like I completely ignored the United game and was watching Barcalona trying to slam home goals v weak opposition.. it was a quality game for a fan of football to take in and say 'I watched that game where Bale ripped shreds into Maicon (worlds supposed best right back)'. As a fan of football first and foremost I owe it to myself to not miss out on such a fantastic game for the neutral.

Pogue if only I did have Sky+... only football available online for me.

That's bollox - you can't watch two games simultaneously it's like watching two films simultaneously or reading two books at the same time.

You can have wank and watch a porno at the same time, to be fair.

Yes you are, that's exactly what you did with this paragraph.

The modern football fan is a very diverse bunch but there's a peculiar new cohort who seem to have an expectation to be entertained above all else. The football fan as consumer.

Unless you can be conclusively sure this is true, it's not an observation but a judgement.

As well as a post (or two) in the other thread about the Spurs game. You've actively gone about making a point of it and how it's "Weird" or "odd" and how you "obviously" didn't watch the game when you knew a few people had. You were asking for this reply. You got it.

I think I'm allowed to make an observation though. I think it IS strange for United fans to choose to watch another game instead (or even simultaneously, whatever)

No, quite clearly simultaniously. Not instead. No one watched it INSTEAD. In fact I'm fairly sure I can speak for most who watched Spurs too when I say we watched United as the main match. Cos We're United fans...Yet you've continued to try and drag your patronising point up by stating the "Instead", then putting the simultatinously in brackets, followed by a "Whatever"...feck off.

because we were "cruising" (as Raees claimed) But that's obviously my personal opinion. It might be entirely normal to loads of other people. No need to get so defensive.

Then don't be a prick about it.

You paid more attention to the inter game?

Blimey.

Quite pleased you did actually. Because it made mockney's nasty little rant backfire quite spectacularly. What an angry young man.

That's bollox - you can't watch two games simultaneously it's like watching two films simultaneously or reading two books at the same time.

yes, football is just like reading books. It's not like they show replays, the ball is out of play, fouls, offsides throw-ins to stop the play.

Wonder about those lads in the pubs, how they can possibly eat and drink while watching a game?

Did it? how so? I'm not responsible for him, nor does my rant have much relevance to him. He can defend himself

All it did do was make you dodge replying to it. With another added little judgement at the end to boost your superiority. What a sad old man.

No wonder people like you spout so much shit about football when you can't even watch a fecking game properly.

Well if I've dissappointed you Pogue.. I sincerely apologise. Obviously many on here will follow your lead in condemning me as a half-arsed United fan, despite my many passionate posts on this very forum about our club.

In a world which is so complicated and full of angst and falsehoods, why drag football into the mix and treat supporting a club like a religion in of itself. As a grown man who is a father.. surely you have more pressing issues on your mind, then preaching about the virtue of exclusively watching Bursaspor instead of watching the Spurs game.

Its pretty sad.

I've no intention of getting into a contest about who's the better fan. I'm fecked if I do, I haven't been to a game all season.

Then you shouldn't start making snide comments about other fan's rather innocuous activity's and/or judging what kind of fan they are because of it. Perhaps?

I don't get it. There were United fans watching Spuds tonight? Que?

Yeah. Serves them right. Weirdos.

Didn't watch the game (obviously)

Another one.

To each his own, obviously, but I can't even begin to understand that mentality.

You pushed the agenda, you got a response.

Meh, I watch other games at the same time on Champions League group stage nights all the time, and I'm generally not that bummed if I have to miss one either. I don't know why, but on the whole I tend see them as kind of a formality more than anything else. Does that make me less of a fan?

If it does, that's fine by me, I can't really change it.

TBH I think I even prefer the Carling Cup games where we play loads of youngsters to the group stage matches. I think it's the fact that I'm spoiled enough to just assume that we'll qualify no matter what, and that's where that formality feeling comes from. Every league game on the other hand I'm buzzing with nerves and excitement.

It was a good show tonight though, especially in the second half. Both from United and Bale, I watched both so I'd know ;)

No wonder people like you spout so much shit about football when you can't even watch a fecking game properly.

how can you watch a fecking game properly, go on educate us?Like you read a book? If you can't do 2 simple things at a time, having in mind you should only sit and watch at one spot that speaks volumes about your capabilities.

You shouldn't take up any surveillance job then. Or they should give you only one camera to observe.

Bale is ACTUALLY the best thing since sliced bread.
