GB News; UK Right Leaning 24 Hour 'News' Channel

"in everything we do, we will be guided by the highest journalistic standards"

"Opposing cancel culture, wokeness and identity politics" (paraphrasing).

This should be good

Without those they wouldnt have any material though. So essentially its in their interest to keep them alive or exaggerate them.

Oh, I know. It's just that it's a rather telling starting point for a new channel.

Well they have been big topics in 2020/21. At least they are honest about where they stand on those topics. Im mostly interested in whether their critique will be of any substance or sharpness at all.

I'm Andrew Neil and this, is GB News......................from my studio in France!

Is there something wrong with having a nice house in France if you're well off?

Look at the US and the impact that Fox News and more recently OANN have on huge portions of the population. This is the beginning of the same here, and we’ve seen in recent years there’s plenty of people dumb enough to eat it up.

mhmm. There's a disparity between how some people approach the news, both in what and where they consume it and how they discern the validity of the stories. I'm a literal white van man, and I'll often team up with other builders and tradies at work. You'll sit down for your sandwiches and someone will pop up with "muslim no go areas" or that the government has given billions and billions for some LGBT statue and that hospitals have had to shut down as a result. Trying to argue these cases is incredibly difficult, you can pull up legit sources to counter the statements, but the crux of the issue is that a lot of the time they want to believe their fabricated stories. It's a dangerous thing when you combine that with the rhetoric our media and politicians love to push.

There is if you're proposing to be the linchpin of a GREAT BRITISH news program extolling all the things that, 'the British people care about', and going against the 'metropolitan mafia', all the while being tucked away in your cushy villa in France not having to face any of these issues.

He is the metropolitan mafia.

I honestly couldn't care less about that detail. In the case supposed patriotic people, you can be patriotic about your country whilst being fond of other countries as well and yes might even living in a villa in a country with better weather. Andrew Neil is wealthy enough not to personally have to face any of the issues that the common englishman is faced with. I'm not sure whether he's required to eat a specific british diet either whatever that is.

Didn't take them long to get a reporter to ask questions at the daily briefings - got a good slot too, right after the BBC and ITV and before the Daily Mail. Still no Sky News or Channel 4 News yet.

If you don't care for detail why bother asking the question?

Who is funding this?

Not a complete list, but according to the Guardian, it includes:
Brexit-backing hedge fund manager Sir Paul Marshall; Lord Farmer; Lord Spencer, both were treasurers of Tory Party; US television group Discovery; Dubai based consortium Legatum.

I care about other peple nitpicking over such a pointless detail.
You missed the point entirely. There's nothing wrong with having a nice house in France.

It's rather ironic however, pro-brexit, Great British news, for the British people and unapologetically pro Britian, is broadcasting from France.

That’s the spirit

Made me laugh that

Do agree with @Vidic_In_Moscow though about Alastair Stewart, I always thought he was one of the good guys. I know his last gig ended a few months ago so he probably needed work. He’s been out defending GBNews a bit on Twitter today, shame he feels he needs to do that.

I can’t express in words how much I hate Dan Wootton by the way. The right on Twitter are currently split down the middle between hating him and hating him but pretending to love him for Twitter.

Keep thinking I knew the Stewart person mentioned here, realised I'm mixing him up with wicketkeeper Alec Stewart of the 90s.
Related - is the English cricket team Tory or are their politics unknown?

Isn't the cricket team infamously full of public schoolboys?

I won't be surprised if there's a uk version of qanon in about a decades time. Those people already exist, they'll be properly groomed and fed a steady diet of lies.

This won't end well.

Just saw a clip from wokewatch. The studio makes it looks like they are having a discussion inside a gaming computer.

For overseas tours, it probably is now... ever since Fred Truman and the "pass the salt Gunga Din" comment, working class 'oik's' are not welcome!

I hope this spectacularly backfires and rather than stoking the “culture war” instead makes people aware of how utterly absurd it all is. I very much doubt it though.

Their target audience will be those who despise what they put out, you can see it in this thread already. As I said before...

All those that hate its existence will be the ones watching it to commentate on the outrage. All the while boosting viewership levels, boosting the traffic to the site, and giving the data to its owners to validate the channels existence. It's like a self-fulfilling prophecy.
