Hating Lingard

Its about as funny as reality hitting someone hard in the face. Mkhitaryan was running around with a camera following him everywhere filming documentaries thinking he had somehow arrived at the world stage with a transfer to a big club. Well, 5 games later his manager publicly called him a coward and told him where to go. There's a certain humor in that.
When did he call him coward? I wanna see the quote on that.

He is on 75K as per Ducker, much more reliable than sensationalists Sky.

Yeah I don't know why people choose to believe the whole £100k p/w stuff. It seems like he's on £75k p/w, but either way, his wages are completely irrelevant.

Exactly. It should be about his general conduct and how he does for United, and not what he earns.

Mkhitaryan is on £140k, but he's an exotic name and had that one good season at Dortmund so his wage is ok.

Agreed.

He’s been better than Mikhataryan.

I’m of a mind now that Lingard actually has a lot more potential than we all gave him credit for, based off recent performances alone.

Can he kick on another gear?

“I was not happy with his last performances. I’m not speaking about one or two, I’m speaking about three, four or five. He started the season very well and after that, step by step, he was disappearing. His performance levels in terms of goalscoring and assists, pressing, recovering the ball high up the pitch, bringing the team with him as a No10, were decreasing.

“That was enough [to drop him] because the others worked to have a chance. Everybody works to have a chance. It’s as simple as that.”

Love the guy.

Local lad, come up through the academy, and a very good player.

I can see why some people might not love his 'childish' personality on social media, but I actually like seeing these snippets of the banter between him, Pogba and Rashford. It adds some personality to them and gives us a glimpse of the relationship in the squad that you wouldn't usually see.

Sure he's had poor games, but he's done plenty of great things as well. The 'Roy of the Rovers'-esque FA cup dream, goal in the EFL cup final, his performance and goals this weekend to count just a few.

He's done more than enough to earn a run of games, and remain a part of the squad playing in a position where he will often be rotated with little fuss.

The one thing that he seems to give the team is balance, they look much more balanced when he plays. Look he's not a naturally talented flair player. But what he does is he puts in a shift, he makes the runs, and he can score. He 's stepping up, which is a lot more than can be said about of late about Mr Mata and Mkhi. He's scored in successive away games against teams in great form. Good on him.

He also, remarkably, has the single season goal scoring record in one of the top European leagues, so he's had more than one good season.

You're really gonna bring up the Ukranian league? Depay must be amazing as well since he was great in the Dutch league.

A great test for Jesse now in the Derby. Most people presume he will start - so let's see if he can finally banish those two 'nervy' outings he had on his home debut and the 2016 game against City because, I still believe he has that little mental block at OT that makes him feel, perhaps, that he doesn't quite belong.

Well, he does but home games are his real challenge, where there's little space and more intricacy is needed. He's got to work on his concentration, continuity and patience. But if you have a player with his pace, goalscoring ability and movement, how can he not be a future star for us?

It's simply up to him - if he wants it bad enough.

I compare him to Pedro (the one now at Chelsea).

Never gonna be as talented as Messi and Iniesta, but solid enough to do a good job whenever called upon. Hell, he even scores important goals like Pedro does.

Every team needs a player like Lingard in the squad.

Nah he really isn't, if he's shunted out wide again he will go back to being largely anonymous. He's much more suited to playing centrally.

Sadly our best option right now at RW is probably Young which says it all really about our wide options. A top class right winger should be top of the shopping list in June.

Before we enter the market, when we switch again to four at the back, I'd like to see Lingard positioned behind the striker with Micky moved to the right wing. Has the Armenian played there even once this season? It was his primary position in his best season at Dormund, but we're not trying it out.

Please don't tell me you're basing that on the last 2 games? Mkhi was Great for at least 2 months (if you don't count the game vs Stoke which we drew 2:2). After the Liverpool match his form started to dip and he hasn't been the same since. Lingard plays 2 great games and he's better than Mikhi? come on now

He definitely has at least for the odd half here and there if he hasn't started on the right wing.

I wouldn't mind him getting a run on the right either for a few games to see if he can pick up form, Mourinho doesn't seem to have too much patience with him though.

I definitely don't want to see Mata there though, i like him as a player but to see a slow left footer play right wing for United just seems so wrong to me.

If he did that he’d be a guaranteed starter not a squad player.

It’s amazing how many people think squad players should just pick up the pace and produce performances straight away

I mean that generally, not having a go at you

I have grown to love the lad, he's been at OT all his life so he knows what its about , true some games he goes missing and has a bad game but over the past 2 to 3 seasons some of his goals have been vital and he does like to score the odd blinder. Long may his good run of form continue.

Yeah it's like watching a one-legged pirate attempting to beat his personal best on an atchletics track (though devoid of the fun part).

His ability to consistently make the right runs as soon as the ball is overturned, is nothing short of world class. It really is. I was a doubter and I'm glad he's proving me wrong.

In general he needs to find some consistency, he can look great some games and then utterly anonymous in others. He's definitely not a winger, that's for sure and he's a much bigger asset to the team when he plays centrally.

There's no reason why he shouldn't be pushing on for a starting berth given the form of both Mata and Mkhitaryan recently. This is definitely the best time for him to establish himself as a first teamer, for the time being, anyway.

Not necessarily mate we've had lots of fairly consistent squad players over the years. Butt, O'Shea and Park etc. were not world beaters but when ever they were called upon they usually gave you a fairly good level of performance. You knew what you were getting from them 9 times out of 10.

Thats all people are looking for from Lingard, over the last two years his performances have ranged from excellent to anonymous a lot of the time. He needs to strike a happy medium between those two for me. I'm not expecting man of the match performances from him every time he plays just a good standard of performance on a regular basis.

I agree with some of what you’re saying but I think what people forget is that this is his 3rd season of being a member of the first team squad. People think he’s been around for ages but he hasn’t. In that short space of time he’s been shunted around postionally. Now that he’s in his favored position we are seeing what he can do. Hopefully he’s allowed to develop now at his own pace and can kick on. He will have good games and bad but I hope that those who shout that he’s not good enough for this level can be drowned out by those who now repeat what he brings to the team.

The Ukrainian league is a decent standard. It's consistently in UEFA's top 10 coefficients. There's been a lot of players in that league, in good sides, who have not got anywhere near that number.

The more time passes, the more Depay looks an excellent player. That one was on us. We bought him, one of the most promising inside-left forwards in the world and then at the end of the transfer window bought Martial, one of the most promising inside-left forwards in the world. Fast forward a few months, we get a couple of injuries and we discover Marcus Rashford, one of the most promising inside-left forwards in the world. One of them had to go, we couldn't get the most out of all of them. They are probably three of the best five players in the world in that position under 24, along with Sane and Coman.

Oh i agree with that mate definitely i've been saying for ages he just isn't a winger. Whenever i watched him in the reserves he usually played centrally more often than not. I hope if he gets a run centrally he can develop into a really good player too.

And yeah to be fair in football terms he's younger than he actually is as this is only his 4th-5th senior season. Young players will be inconsistent, but it's something every young player will have to get over to have a good career at a top club.

He made his competitive debut under Lvg so I think this is his 4th season actually

Am loving this boy. He has scored superb big goals for us in the past despite getting limited play time. With Mata and Mikhi very ineffective, this is Lingard's moment. He has so much potential in his attacking play waiting to be tapped.

LVG gave him his United debut but he was on loan for a season before that at Birmingham i think.
Yeah sorry I mean around united first team level

AFAIK he got injured at Birmingham then went on short loans to other clubs too but had a lot of niggly injuries when he was young
