Hating Lingard

not a fan of this thread at all

some people question his inclusion (including myself) based on his lack of productivity

he's had a few very good games and I'm delighted like most

I think 99% of fans don't hate Lingard - it isn't personal at all

People do hate him. He is blamed even when he isn't at fault. He is always an easy target. People had the audacity to call him a "championship player". They know nothing about football. Some of the comments about him did become personal which is a disgrace.

Not really, he is a regular starter at the 9th place team. About what you'd expect from a squad player at a top 4 team.

Yeah that's why he was deemed surplus to requirements at Everton. No chance in hell I would want him here as a squad player ffs. If you rate him then good for you, I don't.

What a horrible thread title for a kid who has come through the ranks as one of our own , this forum is just beyond belief at times !

Well Cleverley is now at Watford so the criticisms while he was here were absolutely justified. Lingard looks to have far more about him than Cleverley ever did while he was here. Poor comparison really.

Anyhow, plenty of people - myself included - had a massive issue last season when Lingard was getting picked time-and-again despite numerous poor showings, and people wanted to see Mkhitaryan get a proper run in the side. Well now that we've seen that Mkhitaryan isn't going to work here and Mata's form has been flaky at best, most have no problem whatsoever with Lingard playing. Is he the long term solution? Nope. But right now he's the best option that we have and he's generally been impressive when given a chance.

I mean if you want to see disappointment directed at Mkhitaryan, you literally only have to go to his thread on here.

I brought out Cleverley because of the manner that people direct towards him while he was a Utd player. They boo him during matches, raise social media campaign to stop him from playing for England. These are all personal attack for a Utd player who did nothing wrong as a squad player, but in fact gave all he can, as good as he can, as a squad player.

I see Lingard also giving 100% but he is now getting unfair criticism, someone even critical of his wage. Players should only be criticised for their attitude, not ability. If a manager pick a player that is because he trust him for his contribution.

Yeah by a very small minority which are easily ignored. Didn't even know Cleverley was ever booed, to be honest.

Of course a player can be criticised because of their ability? I mean, why not? In all walks of life people will be criticised for their work and their ability to do it, it's life. Anyway, Lingard is on a good run and now would be a crazy time to criticise him.

He is a key player for us now. Bloody shit our football become so much worse without him though or that type of player. I thought Mkhitaryan played well near the end in spells. No idea why Mourinho is not using them more.

If Lingard is now a 'key player' for Manchester United, then that sums it all up really.

Can't question his effort on the pitch, but if that is the main reason for his inclusion in the team, then half of the Stretford End faithful could fill the other positions.

Well that’s decking nonsense

I suspect Jesse was reading this thread. He’s been red hot since some GB lovin

He did well when he came on but he really should have bagged a hat-trick. The chance he missed was very much easier to score than the chances he scored from.

He’s currently better than Rashford and that’s a massive improvement. I never thought this was ever going to happen when Rashford emerged. Hard work is paying dividends for Jesse at the moment.

If he got a hat trick and Burnley scored 3 I swear people would still say he should have done better.

The evidence that fans are never satisfied.
Bloody hell man, he almost single handedly rescued today!

Come on, guys
I gave him his credits but that was still a big chance begging to be taken - from 4 yards. He hit straight at the keeper. It’s fine margins like this that is keeping us a dozen points behind City.

Lingard did very well but he should be burying such chances in the box - no excuses.

A single goal changes the flow of a game. He scores the 1st opportunity and there's no guarantee he gets a second just a few minutes later.

Still a young player. I have high hopes for him. Should never look back and keep going as one of our best players. Quality player.

Anyone can miss a good chance, even the best players in the world. Its what they do after the missed chance I am curious about. Some just lose their shit, while others score two goals. Thats a quality answer from Jesse imo.

Screw anyone who still hates on Lingard. He's our POTY so far maybe tied with Young.

 “he scored a double hatrick today but I’m still not sure he’s good enough”

At least Lingard hit the post. What did Rashford do? Didn't pass and couldn't take on keeper. And then what happen against Burnley?

He is a very clever player. The amount of time he finds great space and begs for the ball but doesn't get it.....our problem is we have too many safe platers. If Lingard played for City you would see his true worth.

How depressed would you have been at the start of the season if someone told you that by December, our best players so far have been Lingard and Young?

Why would that have any bearing on anything.

Surely if someone told you we were 2nd in the PL, averaging over 2 goals a game, into the CL knockouts top of our group you'd be pretty content with that?

Cleverley was class till he got a bad ankle injury, if I recall correctly. Was never the same after that.

Cleverley played the second half of the Charity shield and the first three games in 11-12 before getting injured against Bolton. He got a lot of praise but the team was really being carried by Anderson - was notable that we scored 5 against Bolton after Cleverley went off. He played a fair bit the following season and was decent but never anything more.

But the previous season...?

To all those that slated me for saying Dele Alli is no better than Lingrad at the start of the season.......

Lingard might actually be the better of the two

Don't particularly rate him but his end product has been pretty good. 9 goals and 4 assists in just 25 appearances (6 of them as a substitute).

Lingard has the heart so few in the squad are showing. He’s not just going through the motions. He has to start when fresh and available.

Jesse is currently our only attacking player who showing the mental strength to put himself into areas that’ll do damage to the opposing team. Not the best of players by any means, but worthy of his place at United.
