James Milner is top 4 material.

At the rate he is going he will get in the England XI ahead of Joe Cole.

On current form Joe Cole doesnt even deserve a place in the squad nevermind the FirstXI

Anyway the "Get Milner to Old Trafford" campaign starts here ...

If he had a better passing range he'd have his name in the hat for replacing Scholes. Its a bit too limited, but the rest of his game in the middle is impressive.

Sorry both will be warming bench for Stewart Downing, Stu's already taken Milner off the leftwing at Villa.

All hail England's best natural leftwinger.

I expect a flamewar.

I remember a few years back and some posters were advocating signing Milner while at Leeds. I wonder if he'd have progressed at OT like he has for Villa. Though it's possible he may have been stunted with Ronaldo and Giggs in his path.

I wonder. We'd probably have better wing competition now if we had grabbed him from Leeds back then.

I think he is a cracking player who would be an excellent acquisition for a team like United. He can play on both wings and in the centre of the field as an attacking midfielder. I rate him.

This nonsense about him not being good enough for a top 4 doesn't when someone like Park plays for United. If he can make it so can Milner

Park isn't exactly a referential for players making it in the big 4

Downing is playing very well at Villa Park, infact all the English boys are doing well Gabby apart (who still is very inconsitient). I get told how amazing they are every fecking weekend.

I've managed to watch a few of their matches lately and i'll go along with their assessments though. Downing has been a revelation for them and finally Young is coming back to form. Milner has been bloody epic for them and worthy of an England squad place, if not a starting position on the left.

He's regularly played for the 3 times champions of England and Vice champions of Europe. He's as good as any referential for players in the big 4.The question was ' is Milner good enough for a big 4 ? ' and I think the answer is yes since worse players (not talking about Park specifically here) have done well playing for those clubs

I think he would start for any top four team I really do, in a midfield trio.

I'd say he's good enough to start for Liverpool and Arsenal.

Hes a better creative mid than anything we've got and can evidently hack the physical endeavours in midfield the english game puts you through.

I'd hate to see Liverpool sign Milner. I wonder if Brwned has finally changed his tune on him.

Would be a good versatile option. I like him.

Not sure he'd get into our strongest XI but he could fill in anywhere.

He'd be very expensive. Useful player, mind.

Thought he was good today, and he's definitely my vote for most improved player of the season. I still think he's good, potentially very good, rather than class, potentially top class, though.

Villa's strategy for growing their team appears to be to recruit some big bastards, add a few players who can cross reasonably well, and stick it up 'em. It's not exactly fancy stuff, but it's effective enough I suppose. Young, Downing and Milner are all decent players who can deliver a good ball in the box. I guess Milner is showing signs he can do a bit more than that, but I don't think he'd shine in a big team.

I still maintain he would be a good signing.

He isn't much better than Denilson right now, in two years when he's 24 Denilson will be the better player.

Milner was like a one man show v United on Sunday, he barely wasted a pass and whats more important he is very purposeful with the ball.

Denilson is just a sideways passing merchant, if he can become more physical he'll be decent but I can't see him being better than a Brazillian Jermaine Jenas.

Milner had a good 15 minutes and pretty much disappeared after Man Utd scored like the rest of the Villa team.

I'd say Downing has pushed Sidwell/Reo-Coker away as Milner can fit in in attacking midfield, if anything.

My grandma could push Sidwell out of any team any day. My mates who are Villa supporters share that opinion with me.

On another note, I rate Milner very high, and believe he's been one of the best midfielders in the league this season. Would be a good signing for any top team.

Still bugs me for the goal he scored against us when we ended up drawing 2-2 to Newcastle after being up 2-0, like some 30 yards out or something.

I think he'd be a great addition to any top 4 team - he is skillful and the versatility of such a player can be of great use through a long tough season. He'll be England's answer to the loss of Hargreaves in the WC I'd venture.
