James Wilson | On Loan to Brighton and Hove Albion

2 goals in 3 starts, was subbed on in his first game.

I thought he looked lively tonight...

Great game of football by the way - especially that second half, top entertainment... really think that Charlie Austin should be in the PL.

Guy in my office is a Brighton fan - he absolutely loves Wilson. Says he's getting concerned that with our injury situation we might call him back:D

Just finished watching myself and a very good game, though Chris Hughton must have been seething with Dunk and that red card. Austin without a doubt will be snapped up in Jan.

Do you think we will? Also is that loan to be reviewed Stephens Day?

I actually hope we don't recall him. Even though we're on our knees at the moment with injuries and such - I still believe this is the best thing for him personally. The young ones need freedom and little to no stress (as much as possible) so they can develop and acquire confidence in their abilities. It's too tense at United at the moment, and not good for the players - especially the younger ones. Therefore, even if we suffer for it at this moment - it is the best thing for him - and if he continues to do well - it will also be the best thing for us in the long run.

As for Stephens Day - don't know about this.

To let him be first choice for us instead of our useless strikers.. Can't be worse than Martial and Rooney.

 Do you seriously believe that Wilson is a better forward than Martial?

Random example, the original Ronaldo was scoring a goal a game in La Liga at that age. God knows what he would have done at Championship level. I know he's a tough example to emulate but that's the level of player we should be aiming for if we want to win trophies at the top level.

Because every career path follows the same arc right?

I'm just saying, he's playing at a level below us for the best team in the division - if he was that good, he'd be tearing it up and taking the piss out of defenders at that level whilst scoring for fun.

1. its not the best team in division
2. nobody here think he is now a striker for the top team, he is someone who has all the tools to became that and he only started his professional career
3. 2 goals in 3 starts is a brilliant return, specially as 2 of this starts were away against good teams.

I'm not saying he definitely won't make it at the top level but realistically most players who are going to be the very top players would not be on loan in the Championship at his age, they'd be already starting reguarly or semi-regularly in the top division - see Martial, see Rooney, see Balotelli!

OK, forget Balotelli but I am trying to go a level below Fat Ronaldo!

Commentator mentioned that we can recall him from the 24th. I hope we bring him back

Are you actually serious? He has two goals in 274 minutes. (Just about 3 games)

Yes, that Ronaldo comparison is random. fecking absurd too.

Dont think he's ready, personally, looks as if he's still finding his feet on todays performance despite getting a couple goals since his loan. LvG would no doubt sit him again, when right now he's getting games and progressing (finally).

Yeah, that's the level were we should be aiming for, wait a sec where did Ronaldo end up? Yeah playing for another team. The way in which you state Ronaldo comparison is that there loads of them around which is not true at all. What players can achieve in other leagues has no bearing on whats possible in the PL ala Depay. The fact is players like Ronaldo only come around every now and again and only 1 of them will be around. We can't continue to use him as bench mark for all prospect because if we did we wouldn't even have a team. Imagine if every player we bought or bringing through our academy was judged on whether he'd be as good as Ronaldo? How many players would that be, how many players in the world are there in comparison to him.
Why can we not accept player for what they are, what are the positives to Wilson, he's got pace, can dribble, Runs past player, loves to get forward, exploits space, excellent shot, a very good finisher and is quite tall, he has many attributes to make him a solid player for us, give him time and give him a chance. I know wanting to buy the next so on so sound appealing and all but its not necessary as has been shown by all the investment made by Van Gaal. Simply put you can't buy success its built in the fabric of your club, Fergie success was as such. The next best thing will come about if they are given a chance, given time and the right platform is built for them. The class of 92 wasn't a success over night. It took time.

What about someone like say, er, Harry Kane. I doubt very many would be upset to sign him but he was hardly pulling up trees prior to his breakthrough season (he had 9 goals in 45 Championship appearances by the way). Mahrez hardly tore the Championship apart either and I think many would welcome his presence in our team right now as well. Guys like Andy Cole, Dwight Yorke and Solksjaer were never at the level of Ronaldo but were perfectly capable for us.

Truly insane.

I can't believe someone actually named dropped R9 as the benchmark, jesus christ our fans.

Between this and the LVG banner thread it's been a tough and embarrassing night for some of our fans.

Suarez wasn't, Ibra wasn't, Kane wasn't, Lewandowski wasn't, Auba wasn't and countless others weren't playing for top teams scoring more than 2 in 3 at 19/20. What a ridiculous post.

We may as well shut the PL down because no one is as good as Ronaldo.

That's why people should post less on the forum and watch football more.Statistics generally won't work for young players. Not to mention the sample size is too small.

Nothing realistic about your expectation. There are all kinds of development arcs. Messi/ Ronaldo/ Neymar are not the only top players in the world. As somebody has already pointed out there are Lewandowskis and Suarezs too in the world.

Only 2 goals in 4 appearances? What a mediocre player! I would have expected 10 or more from a United caliber player. Betcha Fat Ronaldo can still get at least 5.

Have fun in the lower leagues, Wilo!

The question is which of the teams that might be relegated and nee a 9 like Villa, Bournemouth or Norwich will risk the money for possibly staying up. Stoke don't score any goals but I think that's more about the CMs and tactics than their strikers.

Come on mate. In the seasons they turned 20 years old, Alan Shearer scored 4 goals in 36 league games for Southampton and Thierry Henry scored 4 in 30 league games for Monaco. Brazilian Ronaldo is hardly the norm in terms of development curve for young strikers.
