Jose: "There are those who want to be here at any cost and those who suffer with a little pain."

Do you agree with Jose criticizing players in public for not being willing/fit to play?

Come on FCBarca this is just daft you think you need to have experienced something to talk about it or teach it (never mind having to be a top pro) I'd say Jose is more than qualified to talk about it and that he's no spineless in fact I'd say it's more the players who are spineless. They need to man up and grow a set.

It would be daft to conclude from my post that a coach of any sport is required to have experience themselves as a player

What I did say was that a coach who has never been a pro athlete can possibly know what it is like to play with or without pain in games

Moreover, I am absolutely resolute in my opinion that it is spineless to call out players in the media rather than talk to them face to face. If he can't get his message across to the player directly then he's incapable of doing the job he's being paid millions for. To always (Let's not dance around the reality that he has done this repeatedly or that his background is in media) call out players publicly he's announcing that he can't address the issue privately and he wants to put the media attention on the players(Or the refs or the opposing coach etc., you know the refrain)...who didn't play as it were.

Then, he has the temerity to question a professional athlete's ability/inability to play through pain. He's neither a physician nor been a professional footballer so again in no position to weigh in on that which is to say nothing about publicly scapegoating them...after a win

Disappointing to see many defend this ridiculous behaviour.

Who knows if Smalling & Shaw were indeed the subject of his tirade and I'd have no idea whether they were soft but presumably they wouldn't be professional footballers or playing for United if they had question marks about their toughness but that's neither here nor there

I was against Mourinho for doing this but having seen Shaw's reaction in the press then he can feck off. He's an absolute world-class young talent and I probably rate him higher than anyone on here but I would genuinely sell him if he's gone to the press with this shite.

I don't get it, who is he trying to save face for? Who's going to read those articles and think "oh Luke, you were right all along, I feel sorry for you now, Mourinho's just a big bad bully". Get your fecking head down, work hard and get back into the team and unlock your full potential.

I never thought he was this type as well. Rooney and to a lesser extent Carrick were always seen as the behind-the-scenes media moaners but if Shaw also likes a moan to the journos imagine how many others in the squad do too, who we never suspected?

Google translate failed me here, any help translating? I got "the shell of my mother", which I assume is not the correct translation.

I did get "Use your head" though, as the final sentence.
IIRC, Pep was pissed at Alexis for playing a friend with Chile during the international break and angry when Alexis got the injury blaming this injury for Alexis being stupid (for not seeing the greater cause, punt intended).

I forgot but Pep did fell out with Cesc during this time too for reason i forgot. The thing is this season, at the moment, the pressure was built up and Pep got stresseed out.

Because we're just 3 months into the fecking season, and this wasn't his first public outburst at individuals? See Mkhitaryan after Man City, Shaw after Watford?
Perhaps they're not getting the hint then?

It doesn't matter who they are, Shaw will never be the best left back in the world (even league) and Mkhitaryan will never recapture his form for Dortmund if they don't start putting a shift in and showing why United were right to spend the money on them they did. Part and parcel of having a new manager is that you have to prove yourself all over again. If they're not up to it and anyone else for that matter, we're better without them.

I said before, his Chelsea and Inter were a bit dodgy physically. Maybe, he expects our lads to also be taking 'extra help' like his best teams might've done in those days? There were some seriously freaky athletes at both Inter and Chelsea.

It must be galling for United fans to know that the best young defender (certainly in his position) in the country who could be a cornerstone for the team for at least the next decade will be sold by a manager who will be off in 2-3 years.

What do you mean? We all know Mourinho is here for the long term. He has a record for staying long at every club he has been at. He will be here for 10 years plus.

Or if he doesn't make it onto the pitch obviously.

so you end up posting a video about Pep shouting at a player the during a match and compare this to remarks in an interview? Are you kidding me? Not that this is relevant, but it didn't work out with any of these players and Pep. So if anything it is just proving my point.
Players usually don't get motivated by public criticism and it sure as hell doesn't change the culture/environment in the club in any positive way.

If you think that Shaw is another bad apple, that we need to sell...okay....I think he is one of our most talented players, who never made any problems.
You missed the point. The current problem of us started with Shaw being criticized openly at Watford game which leak from the dressing room come to the press. As seeing with Pep case here, it's similar. Pep moved on to other thing, Alexis too (become better player)... Ours didn't.

People not just now have been saying Mourinho shouldn't openly criticize Shaw back then! Here I showed that Pep did. Others could remember SAF did, and former players did testify to this. This happen with other managers too, why is the fuss?

Edit: and it's not motivational shout in that video, it's accusing Alexis for getting injury in this game by playing a friendly for Chile. Pep knew Alexis did play the friendly and may burned out and prone to injury, while keep playing on the field before the injury is the question if you try to spin thing around. So players do subjected to manager's authority, rightly or wrongly. Manager goes to the press is bad enough, players do that would be considered worse.

There's surely no need for him to handle it this way. It's an immature and super-divisive way of going about things.

It starts in training though, does it not? If you can't be arsed to train with intent then how are you going to force your way into a team where you know exactly what Mata is about. It's not like his cameo's have been blood and thunder. I want to see him play and be a success at United as much as the next person but at the moment I don't know what he'd offer that's different to what we've got, but I know for one thing for sure, he's not going to track back when we're in the shit.

Good post - spot on.

Found out Stellar group who are consultancy for Bale, TFM are the agents for Shaw. Looks like an agent briefing against mourinho by them. I hope club stands by the manager and shuts this roody poo out of the club. I would rather play a committed less talented player than a wannabe.

I think it is wrong to expect players to play injured. And before people pull up some example from Ferguson, Pep, Klopp, etc I do not think it is just a Mourinho problem. The culture in Football has to change in that regard.

Exactly. How would they know if someone had injections unless a player told them. Jose certainly didn't. This was what Jose was saying about the people you surround yourself with.

Or the press putting words into players's mouth.

Crikey pal, you don't do things by halves do you? Don't believe every roody poo you read in the papers, it might not be true.

It's been going on for years, that's why a lot of older players have problems now. Is this what has happened here or is Jose saying that Luke is always going to have some pain and will have to learn to deal with it?

If that's the case, and I hope it is, Shaw will say it to Mourinho or will have a disclaimer or something.
I wouldn't be surprised if it was all invented by the media.
I mean, it's one sentence about him being bewildered and that's that.

There have been suggestions that players have been left disillusioned by his approach in the dressing room and in training sessions, expecting a more "hands-on" style which has not been forthcoming so far.

Mourinho claimed that Shaw, who has only just returned from a serious double leg break, had only pulled out of the Swansea game on Sunday morning but it is believed the 21-year-old did not even travel to South Wales with the squad and has told team-mates he is"baffled" by the situation.
These snippets from Jpercy who is very close to southampton and is always correct regarding them seems to tell me he has been briefed by shaw himself.
What a clusterfeck shaw has made. I doubt he plays for united again. I hope he is sold to china and never returns. He is putting his own needs above the team and the club. Anyone who supports shaw is anti united.

Do you think he was trying to weed out the snitch and someone has taken the bait?

Exactly. Looks like mourinho has found his rat. Shaw and his entourage are the snakes. They can all get to feck. More to follow.

We only want players who are wiling to move forward in the same direction.

The last 3 years have been a joke. Talent isn't everything, we need winners.

Mourinho's going to a get a group together who are willing to give everything for the badge and get rid of those who are not.

3 Newspapers including Jpercy who is very close to southampton reporting it. Its very easy to know what has happened. feck Shaw.

Everything that has happened into the past does not need to be repeated. Football can evolve and get better.

Nice stirring

It's fairly accurate, although I can't really weigh in on the Smalling assessment

Strange to see so many fans so quick to back a coach over the club & it's players who will never be here longterm, full stop. If I was on the United board I'd be fuming, I think it shows the club a tremendous lack of respect for the coach to play things out like a soap opera. Undoubtedly they tried to ensure he wouldn't go mental in his contract with professionalism clauses, particularly this early, but he really wasted no time didn't he?

Agreed!

It's weird after Fellaini came out and said the players are right behind Jose.

Get a fecking grip ffs.

The drama Queens on here are pathetic

As far as image is concerned, having previously been a great club suffering a few bumps on the road back to domination, we're now becoming a 'troubled' club which has lost its way. I don't know what this washing of dirty laundry in public achieves? I wish Mourinho would stop it. Why can't he communicate directly with the players?

I don't know who talked or didn't talk, I don't know if the information follows Mourinho's comment and I don't care, what is happening is exactly why I was against the comment. People have decided that I was against Mourinho for the sake of it, but I've been clear that I wanted to avoid all sorts of drama, now we have the flipping dramas.

Everyone should shut up at all time.

There is absolutely no way Jose does not know that his players are taking pain killing injections to play through the pain barrier. Something doesn't make sense here, feels like we're missing something.

The dig could have been aimed at players who weren't 'obviously' injured/unfit.

This I would think. Shaw had a broken leg, and it healed. He's naive if he think it won't be sore from time to time. You just have to learn to ignore it and play through that pain.

You think he hasn't? Ray Wilkins seemed pretty sure Mourinho had taken it up with the players first on Sky Sports News earlier. I'm pretty sure he's just lost his rag with the leaks.
