Liverpool vs. Man United

Or maybe Lucas and Gerrard were always going to be the first choice in the short term but Lucas was injured a lot last season.
Ah, that's probably why. He was a mainstay in their side most of last season iirc, mostly unimpressive though. Bet he wishes he stayed at Swansea.

3 Liverpool-players either limped off or were carried off the pitch (Toure, Allen and Cissokho) - looking thin defensively for the game against us

It was said in the League cup thread that Skyrtel is likely back. Back four of Johnson, Agger, Skyrtel and Enrique is near enough the best they would have anyway. Wisdom can cover a few positions and I don't know is Kelly still knocking about there?

I called the Chelsea game correctly and I am calling this one another draw.

Cant see Liverpool winning 3 in a row, but they rarely lose to United at Anfield, and raise their game immensely. 1-1.

Can't see us drawing two in a row.

We do have a few weaknesses at the back. :( Lucas and Gerrard's passing against Villa was woeful, thus couldn't pass our way out of trouble as we usually do. Hopefully, it was a blip. Agger is suspect and prone to a huge mistake every match. Wouldn't be surprised if you get at least one penalty because of him. How we've kept a clean sheet is more to do with our 'possession football' than reliance on him.

And I would play Valencia against Enrique. I think Antonio could be too wily for Jose, more so than the direct but predictable Zaha. The main question will be do you press us high away from home, or do you sit back and try to play on the counter? And will Rooney ever pass to Van Persie?
Think you've mixed up Valencia and Zaha there

Toure is our best defender on current form, albeit a Man City reject. Skrtel and Agger have single-handedly handed double figure points to top 4 opponents last season between them.

With us at home, we won't sit back and soak up the pressure so there are enough gaps to be exploited. Any kind of crosses/set pieces and Ferdinand/Vidic should have success.

In the last 10 years United have had 6 wins, 2 draws and 3 losses away to Liverpool. You're right that they always raise their game and play better then United though. Can't remember the last time we had an actual good performance at Anfield.

Doesn't really matter who you play at the back against RvP tbh. Give him the right service and he can make any defender look silly. I'm worried about Coutinho and Sturridge who are playing really well at the moment.

He's only properly back from a cruciate, he's played a few u21 and reserve but it's probably a bit too early in his rehab for this level as he's had such little game time.

Don't confuse him with facts. He might self-combust.

Could end up Wisdom and Agger at CB. Wisdom was partially at fault for both goals tonight. First one should have been putting more pressure for the header. Second, he was out of line with the CBs allowing their player a free run to the byline. Had he stayed in line the offside would have put paid to that run.

I like Wisdom, but he has too many mistakes in his game to make it. I've watched him plenty of times for our reserves too. Whichever way you look at it, with our CB and two defensive midfielders you won't find a softer middle from us.

What then? Wisdom and Agger at centre back?

Probably Agger and Skrtel, Rodgers said he should be fit, I'd imagine Wisdom on the bench as CB/RB cover. Cissokho should be back too hoping that his injury wasn't too bad. We are fecked at the minute for defensive cover as Robinson is out on loan, Kelly is barely match fit for this level and Coates has suffered a knee ligament injury.

More like Norman Wisdom then. I think United will win by at least a 2 goal margin.

As bad as Liverpool have been over the years it's been 11 league meetings since United have won by at least a two goal margin. Liverpool/United games are rarely ever convincing wins for either side.

Except the 1-4 of course... ; )

I agree with you there, but I think the gap is as wide as ever and Moyes will want to make it tell.

1-0 to Liverpool.

Moyes Out.

I think you both grabbed an opportunity to jump on a scouser tbh.

His thinly veiled dig at United being a team who regularly plays shite and wins games on the way to the title was pathetic. Even if he tried to wum it out as a compliment.

You are so defensive, it was clear what he meant is United's ability to grind out wins in matches they weren't playing well is the sign of Champions, he didn't imply they won league by scraping wins in every match. It's a trait United have had that I have always admired and one I wish Liverpool could adopt (one of the reasons I think the 6 point's achieved so far are massive as in seasons gone by we would have finished with two points due to conceding late and throwing the game away) .No one wins a league by smashing the opposition every week, it's the matches that are won when the game's in the melting pot the generally prove most significant.

Now stop trying to get so offended by everything.

This was EssexRob's prediction for the United Chelsea game :

1-3 to us, Mata to inspire another OT win with Hazard and Lukaku geting the others, and RVP with one.

So you gonna post nude pics of your wife/girlfriend/boyfriend if you don't get it correct this time? :)

Did Mata and Lukaku even play? At least more than a few of the United posters predicted the correct starting team for United.

I hate playing Liverpool away, always the most nerve-wreaking fixture of the season and for some reason we don't play well and are always put under immense pressure by Liverpool. I'll take a draw in this one. I reckon we'll see the same line-up but hopefully we give Fabio a game at RB.

I honestly saw it as a compliment to us. Bit like the way people referred to Arsenal back in the day. Didn't think it was a dig in any sense....

It wasn't meant as a dig, you read it right.

they're looking good going forward at the moment, good movement and Sturridge is on fire. (if I was them, I wouldnt bring Suarez back in!)

I think theres a very strong chance that they will win this one, I'd honestly settle for a draw and be ecstatic if we won

That was a banter prediction, if you read further my actual predictioon was this.

First time i've been confident about going to OT for a long time. Confident of not losing that is, you can never be confident about winning at OT. Banter aside I can totally see this game being a score draw and I think both parties will go away happy with that, not sure either side is really expecting to win.

Then again later in the thread.

Very confident going into this game now, no way will Jose lose a chance to steal a march on the rivals, even if its only a draw.

After todays events Im convinced, Lukaku to start. Him, Hazard, Oscar and Ramires will be watering at the mouth at the sight of that United defence. Its whether we can keep RVP quiet that will determine whether we get 1 point or all 3. Going for 2-2.

Ok score wasnt right but draw was my actual settled prediciton, 1-3 was just to get the mouths watering.

Liverpool looked decent in their 2 league games, but they also looked dreadful against Notts County. I think we'll do 'em. They're still missing Suarez which is a plus. Sturridge and Coutinho could cause us problems, but I think we can cope with both of them. They've got alot of defensive injuries which we could exploit.

0-2.

This was the opinion of a Liverpool fan on another forum. He reckons the game could go either way because "United have Ferguson's momentum to see them through this season although I don't rate their squad that much" LOL.

I think they are missing his cutting edge though, despite performing well as a team in the last 2 league games. They are creating alot of chances, but I don't think Sturridge quite fills the void left by Suarez up top. Suarez always seems to have a good game against us, so I'm glad he's out.

Assuming Skrtel is fit I don't see us necessarily being that weaker as it's just him in for Toure.
Cissokho wouldn't have started anyway and neither would Coates of course.

I would be very surprised if we don't bring in a centre half this week.
