Liverpool

Very true, they were extremely lucky. It won't last for long. Arsenal are the ones to add to the 'worry about' list this season.

We aren't saying we are the one's to worry about. The first three games we weren't extremely lucky, if the opposition fails to convert possession into goals that's the fault of the team in question.

What we do need to do is control the games for longer periods than we have been doing, at the moment our midfield has not been good enough to do that.

Three wins in their first three did not reflect how they were playing at the time.

Remind me again what they say about title winning sides not playing well....

Without our best player at that. But nope, lack of depth will surely kill us.

Apparently Liverpool do better without Suarez than with him. Any case, let's keep this one open to celebrate the inevitable implosion.

Who is they? The title is won at the end of the season not at the start. Lack of depth, lack of quality, lack of bottle at crunch time, homer refs taking points off you rather than gifting them, injuries, suspensions. There are many things.

 This thread will be fun as the year goes on.

Liverpool won't win the league but they'll be in contention for top 4 places. The league looks much closer this season so I won't even be surprised if some unexpected well organised side like Southampton or Everton is up there in March/April.

They have Joe Allen to come back. He could be the difference.

It took me days of thinking but I think I've got it.
This is one of these ridiculous jinx threads that were ever so popular last popular right?
I mean, this can't be a serious thread. Why would you congratulate anyone for being 1st after 7 games?

Well yeah. But when you say the wins didn't reflect how we played, I would disagree. We played well up until we scored, then we ground out the win from there with bottle and organisation. I certainly wouldn't consider us lucky to get away from any of those places with 3 points. Our leads were rarely threatened.

Taking 3 points without our best player by sitting on early leads is the kind of result people classically attribute to title winning form.

Now he's back and those 1-0s turn into convincing victories.

Yeah, but there's a difference between doing it now and doing it at the business end of the season. It's a good start to the season, but title winning form?

Well you're clearly talking out of your arse, but I won't stop you. What's done is done, so enjoy it.

Not saying it's title winning form. Just that taking home such victories isnt necessarily a sign of weakness, but rather more the opposite.

Until, or should I say unless, one of the so called better sides starts to hit some sort of momentum or form, it's anyone's guess as to who will win the league this year. If the current trend continues then I can see it being won with less than 80 points.

We have to play Everton, Arsenal, Spurs, City, & Chelsea, all away from home before the end of this year. If we're still within 4 or 5 points of top spot on the 1st of January then we might be considered as possible contenders. I'll be surprised if we are, but a top 4 spot was always our objective this season. & whilst we don't have enough quality in our squad, the lack of European football could help us in our quest in securing CL football for next season. We saw Tottenham surprisingly lose at home to West Ham yesterday. It makes you wonder how many more points are going to be lost on the back of sides playing in Europe the midweek before a game ?

Not really shocked by Liverpool being up there right now. And not going to be shocked by them being in contention for the top 4. They made some good buys this past summer, Mignolet being the key to earnin them some extra points this year. Time will tell how this all plays out, but lets not assume that this Liverpool club is the same as the one of the past years.

FFS, the only team they've played has been us and they were shite in that game and blessed that we were completely toothless. Liverpool have done well getting the points in games were they have been expected to but they won't be in the top four at the end of the season.

If Liverpool win the title, I will take a massive shit and eat it. I will film it and post it on here, with YAWN on in the background.

We won't win the league this year and nobody is saying we will. But if anybody has suggested we would be where we are now with Suarez being out for the first 5 league games, they would have been laughed out of town.

So we are ahead of where we expected to be which can only be a good thing. It's a long season though and we will definitely need to improve the midfield in January.

More confident about securing a CL spot now than before but still not counting my chickens. The defeat to Southampton and Spurs defeat to West Ham has shown the difference one loss can make.

Totally agree. Our defence now looks quite strong & quite solid. The attacking trio of Suarez, Sturridge, & Coutinho is one of the best in The Premiership. But the midfield is probably one of the weakest we've had in many a year. & we all know that to win the PL you need a really strong midfield crammed full of world-class players..........Oh wait

I think most Liverpool fans understand that they will not win the title. The Liverpool supporting friends of mine are hoping to be fighting with Tottenham and Arsenal for 4th place, and would be delighted with that. All five of them agreed about that when I saw the Tottenham match with them yesterday.

West Ham did put them into their place firmly yesterday.. Now we need someone to do just that to Liverpool!

I think Arsenal have an excellent chance of winning the title. I believe they had the best record in the league in the 2nd part of last season. Apart from the first game feck-up, they've pretty much carried on that good form this season. Now that Fergie has gone, Wenger must be classed as the number one manager in The Prem.

To be fair to most of the Liverpool fans I know, they are not expecting to seriously push for the title, which is ironic considering they did last year and every other year. Rogers has done a good job of managing expectations.

They have a great chance of being top 4, which in all fairness is where they belong.

There are still a couple of fans I know who are adamant they will win the league. Likewise, I was talking to an Arsenal fan on Saturday before the WBA game and he said he thought Arsenal would win every game until the end of the season. Christ.

I don't think they have a 'great' chance of making top 4 to be fair. I am almost 100% sure that both Chelsea and City will finish ahead of them and I'd wager a lot of money that as will Arsenal. As for United it all depends on how we recover from our poor start, I think we are quite likely to end up ahead of Liverpool come end of season but I cannot be sure. Then there are Spurs who I also think have a decent chance of ending up ahead of Scousers too.

They're not without a chance, all it's going to take for them is poor run of form from either United or Arsenal and they're in. I would say they are more likely to end up outside top 4 than in it though.

I agree they will struggle to maintain top 5 IMO a realistic target is top 4 and no harm aiming high but there are so many other teams in better shape. Uniteds future might have thrown up a few concerns but the signs are positive and quality in the squad will see them ahead of Liverpool.
Threads like this though  It's like what you expect from the spurs fans.

Once United and City start firing (and we both will) then the table will return to normality. Le Arse are already up there and I'd expect Chelsea to be strong. Spurs, Liverpool and Everton will fight it out as expected. I'd love to see someone else like Southampton be there or there about's but I can't see it.

Currently lying in fourth spot, hopefully they drop down the table after the next round of fixtures :nervous:

A win against them will be an excellent result but as with all bar one game this season I'm confident going into it.

We are look like a side that could just burst into life, definitely a few little signs there at the weekend, wouldn't mind a big performance here to set us on a run, I do think we will need a big performance too.

Win the league? If we did I'd start my own religion devoted to Brendan Rodgers.

Back on planet earth; top 4 will be a tough nut to crack...

Except we didn't. You were doing well there until half way in.
