Liverpool

It's certainly a welcome sign of intent from the club. People will look & see us progressing in the league table as well as tying down our best player; it'll certainly make us more attractive to prospective signings than languishing in 7th.

Suarez is reportedly on £150-£200k.

Money wasn't the reason we missed out on Mkhitaryan, Diego Costa & Willian in the summer either.

That's only a bump in pay for him since this summer. Getting any one of those player and your wage will would be bigger than it is now without the new Suarez contract. Of course money is an issue. You have it, sure, but the issue is how you spend it. Andy Carroll. 35 million. The wallet keepers sure haven't forgotten about him.

I can't remember if it's Yarmolenko or Konypylanka that I really rate, but weren't Liverpool massively linked with both of them?

He isn't. Slowly getting used to his surroundings. Could have said the same thing about Hazard a year ago.
Hazard started on fire and faded a bit if I'm remembering correctly. However I take your general point.

All this Liverpool and Arsenal at the top with us in mid table is taking me back to the eighties. I remember having to cheer Arsenal on in the hope they would nick the title in 1989. I was firmly an ABL back then.

At least the scousers in this thread are largely decent folk who have been on here during their team's rubbish times.

Gerrard's having a good season. He's by no means "done".

He is. That said, having seen what kind of synergies a resurgent Allen and Henderson offered in front of Lucas, I think there may be questions about how swiftly he goes back into the first XI. At least if they keep this up. Spurs couldn't live with our pressing. The kind of midfield control in midfield, especially off the ball, that trio offers may outweigh what Gerrard brings to the table.

In some games anyway. There will be plenty of games where control is conceded to us more easily and it's all about the extra quality to break teams down. Gerrard is a no-brainer for such games.

How's suso doing at alneria? Think he will be a big talent for you guys.

Topping the assist chart, chances created chart and successful dribbles chart last I read.

I am dead excited by him. Wish he was here, but going on loan was obviously the right move.

Henderson has been great this season. Some of Daglish signings have not been so bad after all. Henderson and Suarez are easy to forget how good signings they have been when he signed Downing and Carroll.

Getting Suarez to sign a new contract is a huge confidence boost not only for the team but Rodgers to. I don't think they have the depth in squad to win the league this season, but things are starting to tick for them and they are sometimes playing some great football. I do think it's time to take them more seriously than has been necessary for some time.

I'll admit I'm a bit worried about Liverpool right now. Forget money power and all that, in footballing terms, they look to be really progressing. And that's a great base to have to achieving success long term. It's a tad worrying that they're getting the basics spot on while we seem to be terribly messed up in that regard (despite having a far better squad).

It'd like Brenton himself typed this post. Fecking synergies indeed.

Aye. Give me a 4-4-2, big lad and a short fast one up front and for god's sake no zonal marking. That's the ticket.

fecking hell.

It really wouldn't surprise me if they won the league this season. Even Jordan fecking Henderson is playing like Pirlo.

They're really good this season. Their football has been very pleasing on the eye. So much movement, creativity and pace in their attacks. It's like every team has adopted this modern system of high pressing and quick attacking football with lots of movement, except Manchester United who still rely on wide wingers, stand-off defending and slow buildup.

That's my nightmare scenario: Fergie leaves and the same season Liverpool win the title. Their fans and their media mouthpieces like Hansen would be unbearable.

They will poetically herald this as Destiny: the evil United Empire loses its legendary general -> the sleeping Giant wakes led by its shining knight in black armour and all shall bow down once more.

Led by the evil and sneaky Gollum, wee become a nothing team like Liverpool for the next twenty years...

Liverpool wont win the league. But we need to get the finger out if we are to catch them. They have a lot of hard fixtures coming up before we play them in march.

11 games. 3 away against city, chelsea and in march just before you: soton.

The rest are home games or away games against the bottom half.

Liverpool will drop points alot away from home. They have all season.

City and Chelsea will both beat Liverpool.

I guess you are right. Has been a crazy season though, who knows?

Ofcourse, its possible we really turn on the style from now on but i wont put money on it. Still think Pool are our best bet in who we can replace in the top 4.

We've been crap to watch for a long time.

Liverpool are exhilarating at the moment. Suarez is worth the price of admission on his own.

The thought of Liverpool winning the league is sickening, absolutely sickening. We need Arsenal to pull themselves together, feck even City winning it is much better.

I reckon your club is going to spend in January to gamble on finishing in the top 4 this season. If it fails, Saurez is off for a huge transfer, no way your owners will justify paying Saurez 200k a week, when your team would be better off getting two to three players who could improve your starting 11.

Not seen him, but he's apparently been excellent. I really like Suso so I hope he comes back and isn't sold. He's in the last year of his contract next year and I'll imagine he'd want decent playing time. That shouldn't be a problem providing we get into Europe.

Glad to hear it, looks to be a very classy player.

Wish I shared your optimism. I'd still make City favourites, but I'm really not ruling out the nightmare scenario...

Looking at the current forms and remaining fixtures this calendar year, I have the following as of 31 December:

City 41 points (W v Liverpool, W vs Palace)
Arsenal 40 points (D v Chelsea, W at West Ham, D @ Newcastle)
Everton 40 points (W @ Swansea, W v S'land, W v S'ton)
Chelsea 38 points (D @ Arsenal, W v Swansea, D v Liverpool)
Liverpool 37 points (L @ City, D @ Chelsea)
Man United 34 points (W @ Hull, W v Norwich)
Newcastle 34 points (W v Stoke, D v Arsenal)
Tottenham 32 points (D @ S'ton, D vs WBA, W v Stoke)

I find City a lock for six points, and Everton may likely drop points from the nine I'm anticipating. Liverpool @ Chelsea could go either way although I anticipate Chelsea finding a way to gain at least a point at home; Arsenal @ Newcastle the same. This will be a very tight race in the top half but City will position themselves to make a strong second-half run.

They won't win the league. Relax you jibbering idiots.

Top 4 is looking more and more likely though. Fair play to them. They were easy to hate under Benitez et al because they played "shit on a stick" football. They're lovely to watch under Rodgers though. Hopefully he'll move on with Suarez in the Summer... :nervous:

Top four will be a distant memory come May, excellent so far mind and not to be ignored for sure.

Wouldn't at all mind them coming top 4 at the expense of Chelsea to be fair.

Hopefully he might still be around at Anfield in 25 years time & writing books about how he knocked United off their perch :smirk:

I, for one, am hoping and praying that Suarez is still your main man in 25 years mate... ;)

it's funny with Arsenal leading for so long, and City and Chelsea obviously being in the mixer, how no one for a minute gave any credence to Liverpool winning it.

That'd be a monumental disaster above any of the other 3 doing so.

However, let's hold off the panic until after their next 2 league games.
If they get 4-6 points from those 2 it might look a little more realistic,
