Liverpool

That's why the coming summer window will be vitally important for Rodgers and Liverpool. Finishing inside the top for will give him a great chance to add depth and most importantly, more quality. It really could be a make or break window for the club IMO.

I think they'll finish in the top four, at least on current form they will. If Suarez gets injured or suspended, it might be a different story though. Sturridge alone isn't good enough to provide all the goals. I'm not saying they're a one-man team but Gerrard has slowed down a lot and Suarez is the focal point of their attacks. Still, it's a nice position for Liverpool to be in.

Finishing 3rd would be nice. Means we can spend early in the window rather than worry about qualifying,

The 4th place team in England should not be worried about qualifying. The quality of 4th in England is much higher than when Newcastle/Everton struggled to get through.

We're not seeded. Could end up against a good team in the last qualifier.

"The figures to the end of May 2013, Brendan Rodgers' first season at Anfield, will place in doubt the club's ability to conform with Uefa's Financial Fair Play rules, which allow a loss of €45m (£38m) over three seasons. The club made a loss of £40.5m for the period of August 2011 to May 2012, and a £49.3 for the 12 months prior to that."

Another team running the risk of a fine/suspension.

do you believe a one season absence from the top 4 makes United a lesser club than Liverpool? we can attract anyone we want...its money. The owners will not have sanctioned a record for Mata otherwise. But my fear is even with the best players....Moyes may not have the ability to take the title. That doubt may also be in the owners mind...in spite of what SAF says.
What do you mean by lesser club? I think if Liverpool finish in the top 4 and united don't then Liverpool will have a better chance of signing players as they will have an extra carrot to offer but I don't think this makes liverpool a bigger club. Money is of course a big sway and most players would have their heads turned by it but that type of player isn't who I would want to sign for my club as they would likely to be off come a better financial offer. Moyes hasn't shown he is able to cope with the big job yet and he likely wont get time as I think he will be replaced with a big name in the summer. I'm not sure if that's the right move though. I'd give him another year to clear out the side and make it his own but I suppose the crowd has turned on him now.

we are the biggest club in the world. simple. as I said one season wont stop us from signing anyone we needed. Moyes may or may not be given enough time...but our current situation is temporary and will not last decades as yours did. It is a big business and the necessary decisions will be made.

You couldn't sign the players you needed for this season, what makes you think you will be able to do for next?
Obviously United are a massive club but on the pitch at the moment there are clubs in Europe who are bigger - Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich for instance.

I think you are being a little naive that things will return to normal next year, even if you do get a new manager how do you know he will have success?

And that whichever teams finish in the Top 4 this season will stagnate to let you get back in?

It's incredible that anyone would think that even a season out won't impact the club in some way. Absolute top quality players will not sign for a team in the Europa League. There is no guarentee of United getting top 4 next season. You'd struggle to argue they're likely to get top 4 next season.

not couldn't...didn't....Moyes fecked up...and we are paying for it. No guarantee we will win the title next year...that is our measure of success...not finishing 4th. After City and Chelsea...who have bottomless pits, we still can get the players we need and from what has been speculated, it looks like we will. My guess is Moyes will be given one more season.....

Liverpool can't spend like United, Chelsea or City. Its very possible for United to overtake Arsenal or Liverpool at least next season depending upon our managerial situation and who we bring in. This is not a cyclical thing between United and Liverpool don't fool yourself for a moment that it is. You will have CL football next year on top of your other tournaments, something you didn't have to contend with this season. Not only that but I imagine another long summer trying to hold on to Suarez. Liverpool are punching well above their weight this year and fair play to them.

If that was the case he wouldn't have signed another contract!

Well time will tell I guess.

You are right we don't have that spending power. That said to be honest as it stands we are getting closer to the situation whereby we can spend reasonably big on a couple of players rather than having to buy half a team.

Of course it's been an advantage not having as many games however, the club want Champions League football, so to have that added pressure as it were is something that we want.
Furthermore we didn't qualify for Europe after the 2011 season, and I think even without that we only finished 8th the following year, so it does not necessarily follow that the lack of European football affects league form - though it would be daft to suggest with more games it can do.

I don't see any reason why Suarez won't stay now.

the desperation showed by you scousers is worse.....

you wont win the title this or any other season.....you will not overcome City or Chelsea....

Desperation?

Thank you for proving my point, it seems you have a crystal ball in your possession.

indeed.

Arsenal, City and Chelsea will also be spending...not just us.

We haven't said we will but you do seem to just believe that all will be okay on the United front next season.
There is no guarantee it will.

......and they will stop next season? you will spend more?

No ones going to stand still, clubs will spend just like they were last season, it doesn't mean Liverpool will automatically drop out the top 4, Chelsea Arsenal City and United all spent more than us last summer as well and here we are...

fair point.

There is no guarantee we will win the title next season. but no way we will be as poor. this season imo is Moyes screwing up in the summer. most of our problems stem from that.

no matter how much we may hate his tactics at times.

Entirely different. The level of competition they had was much lower. They are also mainstays of the champions league under numerous different managers. United only under Fergie. The level of players that Bayern signed the summer after missing out weren't top quality asides from Ribery, it was generally experienced players like Toni and Klose. For what it's worth I doubt that United will drop out the Champions League more than two years, I just find it ignorant and arrogant to assume that it won't affect them nor assume they will get back in.

Dumbstar was getting similar replies in the thread this summer:lol:

Look how that turned out.

Many of you said he will go in the summer and he didn't, now nearly a year later, having just signed a 4 year contract and us as a club being in a much better position, you're still adamant that he will be leaving, i think i'm the one that suppose to be laughing tbh.

You're beyond deluded if you think United will fall off the face of the earth with no Champions League for a season. We're in a much healthier position to strengthen in the summer within the rules of Financial Fair Play to a Liverpool, Chelsea and City. We may not be going anywhere under Moyes, but we'll be fine.

Madrid. It's not even a contest you or any other club can compete in.

How on Earth are we punching above our weight? Suarez will stay. I'm very convinced of that.

Spot on.

It is funny isn't it?

you lot have got it...

not even one season completed and you are dancing on our grave....

The fact is the entire game has changed.....I did not need a crystal ball to say that. It is about money...unfortunately. Good managers can get close...but to win the darn thing...you need both.

You're even more deluded if you think all the other teams, are just going to bow down to you and let you waltz back in. United will still be in a healthy position whether you finish in the CL or not i agree, but breaking into the top 4 again next season won't be as simple as many of you make it sound.

We haven't necessarily said you will, however I think it's slightly deluded to just think this season is just a one off for United.
It's just too early to say.
