Lol, I'm not happy with some of the shit recently, but fook me the media and ex-players are putting LVG to the sword. Will not be very long until the masses start lapping it up and turn on him, especially if it carries on at this intensity.

It would be a disaster imo. The last thing we need is a 'van Gaal out' campaign. He got top 4 last season and I believe he can do it again. Rome wasn't built in a day. I know he's spent more than £300 million but the team needs time to gel and new players like Morgan, Memphis, Darmian need to adapt to his philosophy. I also believe that even LVG doesn't know his best XI yet and he is trying to find a suitable tactics for the Premier League. I'm hoping that will 'click' soon enough like the home against Spurs last season and LVG will finally silence his critics and we go on a run.

So atm it's a ... process? :nervous:

vultures. Everyone should be prepared to give him at the very least two years.

VG has got to be doing better though, for me he deserves his 3 years, if within all 3 years of his stay is not an improvement when summer 2017 comes, its probably best we find a new manager, if anyone is available out there

We cannot become a hire and fire club as its one way of handing the players more power. While Moyes had to go, there is no doubt some in the dressing room acted like a bunch of smacked arse clowns .

That said, I believe his tenure will be defined by Guardiola's future....rightly or wrongly .

Of course, every time he tells one journalist the truth about his questions or disrespects his knowledge of the game by explaining how it really is, they all take offense. They hold a grudge, and hold it, hold it.... until the time is right to unleash it. The same wiht pundits like Alan 'just get them tackels in' Shearer to whom all showing of any tactical knowledge is humiliating him as a pundit. They just wait for their chance to have their revenge. Van Gaal makes enemies by the dozens, just by beeing his blunt self with the arrogance of superior knowledge and his refusal to be humble to the press like they expect.

It wasn't any different during his Ajax days, or in Barcelona, Alkmaar, Bayern or The Netherlands. Their problem is that they have to be quick with their revenge, because if they wait too long there won't be another chance and they know it. The pen is mightier than the sword, unless the subject doesn't give a feck and is succesfull.

Uh oh, not looking great for Van Gaal. A defeat on Saturday and he could be under massive pressure IMO.

I am not happy with a lot of things he does..but that is based on my own view..But it wont be based on what the press are saying about him( They are really clueless and will go for the kill for any target they can get and whp they arent buddy buddy with )...It could be argued that its the other way round too, that theu can sense the frustation, and view him as an easy target..The fact that United sells doesnt hurt either.

We play absolute crap football, have spent a lot of money, and everyone who isn't a United fan think Van Gaal is a myth.

Unless things improve I'd replace him at the end of the season.

I really don't think the likes of Gary Monk would do any worse than LvG has at times.

Senior players?

Rooney, Carrick, Young...

After that I'm struggling.

Id review his position at the end of the season too..we are just three months from reaching the halfway point of his contract ...I am not convinced by the gospel he preaches..and as much as everyone will now constantly tell us the great moments in the past he had, there is also the small matter of times when it has gone terribly wrong..so It can go either way with him here.

A mutiny is never good but it's somewhat justified with our attacking impetus.

Rooney wouldn't be complaining seeing how he gets to stay on the pitch no matter what. Can't see Carrick or Young really kicking up a fuss. The Spanish players seem pretty easygoing as well. Our whole team seems rather meek as far as personalities go. Sadly, can't really imagine anyone having the balls to march up to LVG's office and "confronting" him. And the ones that could, would have no reason to.

Honestly, I think plenty around here turned on him before the media.

LVG said he likes his players to speak to him about what is on their minds. So i don't see much into this, that being said I really am confused about wilson going on loan.

LVG's reliance on Rooney might cost him his job.

Did Van Gaal really say that he thinks the highest we can aim for this season is second place last night? That's Moyes level downplaying of expectations. All feels a little bit like last season at the moment.

Came in here to ask the same question. Seeing media reports that he stated that he would be "happy with 3rd" this season, which is absolutely ridiculous considering the money we've thrown around since he started the job. Anything but mounting an actual title challenge should be a disappointment, in my opinion.

I've never seen any quotes of him saying that. Ever.

I think the same. SAF knew he had to bring in RVP to deliver the title, were as fast forward three years later, and LVG is relying on an even more declined Rooney.

That's incredibly optimistic of him, IMO.

Of course, that's only because the ridiculous amount of money he's been allowed to play with has produced a ramshackle squad.

Press really seem to be going for him today, now there is disharmony in the squad due to Rafeal?

This was obvious to any fan who understands the game and the time needed to build a title winning squad.

He shouldn't of said it.

Apparently he didn't say it. Said we could win if things went our way - otherwise 2nd or 3rd. Would have been pretty stupid to come out and say we will win the league, but that's clearly his objective. [Edit: MEN left out the first part of the quote - much better click bait. And judging from this thread, it worked.]

I'm curious about something: what do we think now about LvG"s man management of DDG during his transfer saga? Do you think it has contributed to him extending his contract or not?

To be fair, I think that in retrospect we can conclude it has been nothing short of perfect. LvG has demanded focus on MU from DDG, and has shown him that if he doesn't show this focus in his game he will not play for us. LvG did all this without being nasty about it towards DDG, and gave him the feeling that he would definitely be very welcome to stay. After Madrid came in too late, this very subtly forced DDG's hand, as he knew he was very much wanted here and the best way to prove his focus to LvG would be by signing a contract extension.

If we beat Pool with style, like we did last year away, I suppose that a lot of fans will turn opinions.

He will have a lot of test now. We know that he has a strong team, no matter how many target we missed, he should produce now.

Let's see what happens tomorrow

I dont want to make it sound like LvG some genius but think dropping DDG from first XI was a great call, for few reasons,DDG realized that LvG will stick to his guns,so he might not get everything (to play whole season and not to suffer when it comes to EURO and to leave as free agent).

Promised we'd beat them. Delivered.

I have been having serious doubts about Van Gaal, and that first half seemed to show the very worst of his philosophy. However, in that second half every change both in terms of personnel and tactics worked out perfectly. The trust he seems to have found in Ander Herrera was repaid by him winning and scoring the penalty, and his judgement on Martial has been instantly confirmed as correct. He promised us victory against our biggest rivals and he delivered. Can't ask for more than that.

First half was complete shite, but he redeemed himself in the 2nd. The Young sub changed the game.

He's still bit operating on border line risk of his future being discussed by the board and fans in general but when it comes the historical derby he's the king.

I'm not down with his philosophy. I guess, I'll have to grin and bear his brand of football.
