  • 4) Extend his contract.

  • Undecided (between 1 and 2).

Dropping Rooney to the bench could open up another can of worms for LVG. Just look at Chelsea for what player power can do and just look at how the media drags out our ex players and even pundits like Charlie Nic and many others defending Rooney's contribution and blaming other factors as to why Rooney isnt firing. If he's benched we almost certainly have to hit the ground running. Otherwise LVG knows he's as good as gone for what we all know is the best long term decision for the club. He is effectively our Gerrard right now.

The point really is there is results and there is style. Separate things. This thread is full of posts saying we should sack him because of style. But I don't think he'll even be assessed on that, or it will be a subsidiary factor. Results are what will decide his fate. And actually according to the league table things aren't all that bad.

Yeah, true but I think our style will cost us more and more as the season goes on as we fail to break down mediocre teams that park the bus. Cabaye's comments were telling. You can bet your arse every other team will have the same approach.

As with all my recent unberably pessimistic posts, I'm saying this with the hope that I'm wrong.

He's spent £250 million and this is the best lineup he can come up with?

de Gea, Young, Smalling, Blind, Marcos Rojo, Carrick, Schweinsteiger, Lingard, Rooney, Mata, Martial.

Thats embarrassing.

First, let's see how they play.

CSKA are the best counter attacking team we will probably face this season and we look to be playing right into their hands. I don't understand the team selection

What the actual feck? Is Valencia and darmien both injured?

I will await and see. But not sure of playing Young as a defender in a champions league game. It doesn't really help Darmian that he's in and out constantly.

Schweinsteiger and Carrick were OK against Liverpool. Arsenal not so, but we'd see. Lingard needed to come in as we need pace. Herrera has been dropped sadly, but he wasn't great last game. Even though someone else should have been dropped for me.

Wonder if he has put Martial up front with Rooney.

Have you not seen how slow the team looks with Carrick and BFS in the middle? No Herrera as well.

You just basing that off the Arsenal game, where Schweinsteiger was running and charging forward leaving Carrick on his own.

I remember the caf praising them after Liverpool.

This is all just a bit sad, when I made the Schweinsteiger getting a free ride thread my bigger worry was this belief that control is greater than everything else. So he has decided for sure that two out of Carrick, Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin will always play irrespective of the venue, opponent or the struggle of the rest of the team.

I tend to agree. Of course you have to account for injuries and rotation but to line up like this in a Champions League crunch game, having spent that kind of money over two transfer windows, is very, very underwhelming.

LVG is not getting the most out of his team but the sad truth is that it's not such a good team to begin with. And that's on him too.

Only 10 minutes so far but we're clearly capable of playing quickly and with cutting edge. Biggest difference here is everyone's first thought is to go forward and make a chance. Not just keep the ball as usual.

LVG is going to have to sort us out soon, as this shite can't go on in my books. Last season was a transition, this season he was supposed to make progress. I'm seeing none, In fact we've regressed up front it seems.

I can't argue with any of that mate.

The matchgoing reds sound like they're turning on him.

Audible boos at the end there and chants of ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK. In isolation it's probably harsh based on the first half performance because we at least looked like we were trying to score. The frustration has been building though.

Originally was between 2 and 3 but I'm quickly changing my mind. He's running out of excuses.

I don't usually post in the Utd/football forums as generally every comment is lost among a sea of opinions and it's a bit of a car crash at times.

But if we don't win this game I'm done with Van Gaal. I've never liked him much anyway but such is the Utd way we back our own to the hilt, I even did with Moyes.

Our style of football is sucking every bit of positivity out of our best players, I include Rooney in that as I honestly think he's being held back and not that he's past it. We look slow, and embarrassing at times even though so far, this season looks to be the improvement promised.

Rant over then, if we don't win tonight then Van Gaal and his boring football that is, never has been and never will be our style can feck off and take his stupid pad and pen with him, I won't be watching us again until he's gone.

I think its happened. I was one of his fans but after watching this crap i think hes not the right man for United.

I dont know where you'll be when it happens but this is appalling

It's not attacking intent that's missing, it's the finishing.
Of all the games for the crowds to turn in, this performance should be waaay down the list

Things will get ugly at the final whistle if we don't win this.

Completely agree!

This game has been a drubbing but for the goals so far (70 mins). CSKA have had a 40 yard shot and 0 corners. It's the finishing and final ball that suck here. Rooney's duties basically.

If we don't win, I think the crowd will start to turn on him now.

I was wondering why this thread was bumped. Jumped over to the BBC site, and saw immediately why... Eeek. Is Rooney playing well, or is LVG still scared?

Rooney's playing fantastic by his standards (i.e. he's only fell over twice in this match).

Fellaini on for Martial, ridiculous.

Memphis on, fair enough, but for Mata? Ridiculous.

Lingard and Schweinsteiger should both be off by now if we want to win this.

Joke.

I'm becoming increasingly convinced that he's not the man to take us forward.

don't know when my breaking point is yet. probably if we don't win against west brom.

Disgraceful from Blind. Unreal Smalling.
