Luka Modric / Signs for Real Madrid

My windfall is Asston slithering off into the night like a turd.

I hope he pays up, for your sake.

Well if I lose I intend to pay as honour is a big deal for me,the money is not really the issue but I value someones word as very important.

I am off to bed now as I have an early start to get my work done as i'm taking the Mrs and kids to watch the Spurs game, nite mate.

BBC Journo believes that Modric would really want to join United but Levy does not want to sell to us.

So Arsenal would not sell to us, but would gladly sell to City. Spurs would not sell to us, but gladly sell to Chelsea. What's up with that?

Exactly, don't sell to the one club they have zero chance of finishing above, but do sell to teams they might be able to
compete for 3rd/4th with.

It's all conjecture at this point but City probably made a better bid for Nasri than we did and Levy might not want Spurs to be seen as our feeder club.

And considering that Modric said he wanted to stay in London I find it a bit hard to believe that he favours us over Chelsea.

Heard on the radio this morning that he is apparently on strike until he gets his move. Not sure if true or not.

If it is, obviously taking tips from Berba on how to leave Spurs

I think we'll make a bid for him after Monday, and he will come by the end of the week

Can't really see Chelsea buying him after Mata

Shows how badly he wants to play for Chelsea.

It would be great to see a talented footballer like that absolutely desperate to play for Manchester United, wouldn't it? Make a nice change from mercenary little feckers who don't care where they end up, so long as they're paid an absolute fortune.

Jones turned down better wages to join us over Arsenal, Berbatov did what Modric is supposedly doing and Steve Bruce said at the time that while even Real Madrid had been interested in Valencia, he had his heart set on United.

Indeed. Probably could have earned more at City too. Good to see some players appreciate what an honour it is to be offered a chance to play for United.

For Randall Flagg, however, it's a chance for a little dig. Quelle surprise.

Luka Modric's 'head is not right' to face Man Utd says Harry Redknapp

Luka Modric will not face Manchester United on Monday night because "his head's not in the right place", according to Spurs boss Harry Redknapp.

Tottenham have turned down bids of £22m and £27m from Chelsea for the 25-year-old Croatian midfielder.

Modric has hinted he wants to leave White Hart Lane, but Spurs chairman Daniel Levy insists he won't sell at any price.

"He's not playing," said Redknapp. "His head's not in the right place."

The Tottenham manager told talkSPORT: "We need him playing, he's very important to us, so we have to sort it out."

Redknapp believes Chelsea's capture of Valencia midfielder Juan Mata on Sunday for £23.5m will affect the situation.

"I would think that's the end of the Modric deal surely," he said.

"The chairman is away. He's said he (Modric) is not for sale, so that's where we're at with it.

"I think he's made up his mind he's not going to sell him, no matter what the price.

"Luka's got to get on with it now and hopefully have another good season for us.

"Daniel (Levy) said he would like to sit down with Luka in a month or so when it's all died down a bit."

Redknapp confirmed he is still looking to bring more players in before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.

And he hasn't ruled out organising a loan deal for Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor.

"I think we'll make a couple of signings, for sure," he said.

"I saw (City chief executive) Garry Cook and he said there were one or two snags over the money.

"We're not paying all his wages, that's for sure, so I don't know where that one's at just now."

You know what? I have zero reason to believe it, but I think we're going to nab him. He fits the SAF mould better than Sneijder, is likely to move for a "reasonable" fee now that he is forcing Spurs' hand and, with Mata en route to Chelski, I suspect they've cooled their interest in Modric.

mwahahaha

I'd imagine poor Luka's sitting at home, in his golden mansion, listening to this song on repeat while throwing darts at a picture of Daniel Levy.

What I actually said was 30 - 40m - and the word was "could", not necessarily "will".

So far the total is 8.5m, so around a further 21m would see 30m as the total. Palacios for say 8m, Dos Santos for 5m, Hutton for 5m would leave it only 3m short. Then there's Bentley and possibly Crouch.

Spurs often leave it late-ish in the window before sealing deals and there's another 10 days to go.

All in all, my original statement is not especially far-fetched ... so you might want to wait for the window to close before jumping in with sneering posts.

You also said it could be done easily. Selling Crouch is also not selling a fringe player.

Even though personally i feel our transfer business is over.It wouldn't surprise me if this was to happen.

Bentley, Keane, Dos Santos, Naughton, O'Hara, Bassong, Kranjcar, Hutton (and that's not an exhaustive list) ....

So yes, selling these players who've been out on loan/ fringe players will raise 40m+

£30 - £40 million Glaston? I think not. That also looks like a will not a could. So in summary, you're full of it.

So all of a sudden not only is the Sneijder deal back on track but it seems like Modric AND
Nasri are United bound too? Crazy stuff. From the worst midfield in the league to the best in the world in the space of 24 h. Crazy season indeed.

There's not even a hint of a United move for Modric. And yet suddenly we're getting him? That's muppetry at its finest.

If his head has indeed been turned, I am pretty sure SAF will have a word with 'Arry tonight, over a glass of red!

I really do fear for the well being of some of the Caf's chief muppets. Sneijder, Nasri AND Modric...

The thing is SAF has said he's been looking to replace Scholes with quality, he's made it clear that he rates Modric as highly as anyone and it's obvious that Modric is going to engineer an exit from WHL. Why don't we just go all out for him? Pay him the wages Rooney is on if that's the sticking point; he would absloutely walk into our midfield as it is.

Who says wages are the sticking point?

The player himself has come out and said he wants to play for Chelsea (a club in the same city he already lives in) and Levy will inevitably prefer to sell to them rather than us, after making a dick out of himself with that whole "dossier" fiasco.

What's wages got to do with any of that?

Some people just can't get their heads around players being set on playing for a club other than ours.

Perhaps it's my blinkered view that the only reason anyone would choose Chelsea over us is money.

How will they line up?

Ramires - Essien - Modric

Lampard - Torres - Mata

feck me, they will have options with the bench too.

Well that's working off the assumption that that comment wasn't just him namechecking the only club to be publically interested at that stage, as for Levy surely we can chuck them a loan player or two to shut him up. I agree wages are highly unlikely to be a sticking point, more likely Levy's squeezing every single penny possible out of this deal.

Fergie's known to be keen on Luka and others like me just can't see him going to Chelsea, no one has said we will sign him just that they wouldn't be surprised if we did.

acrebo actually said, and I quote, "I think we're going to nab him".

Surely Levy risks far more fan reaction selling to Chelsea?

As much as he doesn't want to look like a feeder club, Chelsea are traditional rivals and far more hated by Spurs' fans.

Probably more about his own ego than any concern about the reaction of the fans.
