he cant even get a game ahead of Gareth Barry for england, that's his level, Gareth Barry.
Flawless logic.

I didnt know comparing Carrick to Gareth Barry was a recipe for hatred. Sensitive subject i guess, although i have no idea why. Carrick is decent, i just dont think he's top level. United need better in my opinion.
What team do you support FranklyVulgar?
Kilmarnock.
He's a knowledgeable poster, with an annoying hard on for Busquets![]()
Wait, did I read that properly? Modric is an upgrade on Carrick? like Brwned said, Flawless logic![]()

Busquets is a class act, you don't have to be the main man to be a top player. Carrick is neither the main man or a class act, that's why i think United need better. He's had enough time now and i dont see him improving.
In my opinion he's been fortunate, right place at the right time.
he does the things carrick cant, if Carrick is in decent form then he'd be a fine foil for someone like Modric, but Carrick is not a player you can count on, his form does not maintain.
Kilmarnock.

Oh dear.
Anyone else think we wont go after Modric or Sneijder?
Me. I reckon they'll both be at their current clubs next season.
yeah, we all must support the biggest teams in the world. Otherwise what's the point right?![]()
You don't live in 'The Scheme' too do you, son?![]()
my home town is about 7 miles from there but no i'm not from The Scheme.
live in Glasgow, Kilmarnock were the closest team to my town so that was good enough for me. Either that or follow the crowd and support Rangers or Celtic. I'd rather die a horrible death than involve myself with either of these horrible horrible teams.
Fair do's. I hate the old firm too. Most of my mates are Hearts fans so I go to a few games a Tynecastle now and then. But the SPL generally does nothing for me.
Out of interest, do you post on other football forums or did you just decide randomly that a United one would be the place for you (a Killie fan) to discuss all things football?

Don't be ignorant about it. Comparing Carrick to Barry has nothing to do with it. What you are saying is Barry's inclusion in the World Cup squad over Carrick is the indicator of his lack of quality.
It's a sensitive subject on a United forum when you are making pointless comparisons that don't come together to make any sort of point.
Everything else you said is fine, even though I completely disagree with it, it's an opinion and you don't have to rate Carrick. I know you aren't an idiot so you will see the difference in arguing a point, and arguing without one.

The problem is Franky didn't finish his thought... What he should of said was this:
"Barry's inclusion in the WC squad showed that he's better than Carrick in the English setup" - which to me in true.
Carrick's way of playing is nothing like England's way. England depends on harder central men who'll dig in and make tackles. Barry was Hargreaves' replacement. Carrick is a smart man's central midfielder, but England's system needs someone who's going to make tackles.
Carrick plays the space, intercepting passes, and playing balls from the back. England hasn't played like that since the early 90s. Hence Carrick's inability to get in the team and his lackluster performance in English games. They just don't currently compliment each other.
So Franky, if you amend your thought process a little bit, you'd be in fine arguing territory.
Capello clearly rates Barry and Parker ahead of Carrick.
I don't rate Carrick because i don't think he's that good a player. rB]He's a water carrier[/B], he needs a partner to have all the ability that he doesnt. I think he's very average in what he does and the occasional good long pass asside he doesnt have any genuinely defining qualities.
Add to the fact he seems to almost always start a season slowely or go through massive dips in form and i truely don't understand his worth or how he is rated so highly.
Carricks best work often goes unnoticed, he's not one who will grab a game but the scruff of the neck (although he has done a few times in Europe) but he's very intelligent and compliment his fellow midfielder very well. He's not a world beater by any means but he's very good. Our best midfielder for me.
Bullshit. When Carrick is at his best he is very noticeable. His return to proper form last term was classic proof.Carricks best work often goes unnoticed....

In his playing position, by default, if he plays his best he will dominate the game tbf. It's only when his team mates let him down like in that final vs Barca that he doesn't shine even at his best. The issue we've had with him though is he had an extended period of under performing which he thankfully rectified last season. A period that gave him this reputation of being unable to run things. Which is the antithesis of what he was at Spurs and was for us in his brilliant second season at OT, when he helped us win in Europe. When he's at his best he is very noticeable, like I even mentioned in that post he's capable of dominating games but that's not really why he's in the team is it? He doesn't do it often enough for us to say thats his "best work"..
Which is the one myth that annoys me. Carrick is superb at attacking and is just decent at defending. Every time he is own form he proves this. He just hadn't been in top form for over a year and a half and people started claiming his strengths lie more in defensive play which couldn't be further from the truth. As was shown when he returned to form last season. His attacking play far surpassed his defensive contribution (i.e vs Chelsea in the later part of the season). This season if he keeps that form and gets to play with the energy of Ando, Cleverly or the returning Fletcher, in front of him, we will see him have one of his best years for us. Personally I'm looking forward to it happening. I had badly missed the real Carrick and had started to hate the imposter we had on our books. His most consistent and in my opinion his standout attributes are mainly defensive, his ability to provide our defence with a shield through his clever reading of the game is really what sets him apart from our other midfielders.

Levy looks to have stood by his word. Fair play for that.
Only temporarily, it will pass after the window closes. As I've said before on this subject: short-term pain for long-term gain.Levy's ego may still be intact but his club is suffering because of it.

And what about Chelski? The fruitless pursuit of Modric has buggered up their transfer window.
