The airspace above the region was closed up to 32,000 ft, but at the cruise altitude of 33,000 ft, some commercial flights were still operating.
Shit's gonna hit the fan when it's revealed MH17 is just a cover and this is actually MH370.
The most likely scenario is that the separatists shot down the plane assuming it was a military aircraft. They've shot down multiple military aircraft and, at least as far as we've heard, don't fly their own commandeered planes (it's impossible to verify this right now since any combination of search terms leads to the current crash). Why would the Ukrainian military shoot down the plane over Separatist-held territory?
The only reason they'd do it is to make the separatists look like murderers, but they'd have to pull it off a lot better than they have done if that were the case.
Pretty sure the most likely scenario is the actual scenario. A pointless war escalating into a properly terrible human tragedy.

This is a shambles. Is it a coincidence that it was another Malaysian Airlines plane? Was it a Russian Separatist act of terrorism? Was it a mistake or planned? What a catastrophe..

I think the most important thing is how Putin reacts to this. If he doesn't come out as sympathetic to it thats not going to look very good at all.
He's already released a statement saying that it was Ukraine's fault, though not saying they did it. He said that it wouldn't have happened if they hadn't restarted the offensive in the east. He also offered the general platitudes to the families of the victims, etc.
This is what happened when you have people who are angry/emotional/confused AND stupid.
This could be another Franz Ferdinand situation, by which i mean - the trigger for a massive punch-up like WWI.
Shit will hit the fan, if the pro-Russian Separatists are guilty of a f*ck-up, or even worse - that Russian Military chiefs gave the go-ahead to the Separtist's. If the Russian's deny all responsibility, regardless of the facts that prove otherwise - it wont bode well for the rest of us!
I also have to say, there's been many a conspiracy theory over the years, that tragic events such as one we're discussing, is used as a distraction from world-wide media attention from other shit thats goin on.
Look at the shit thats happening in Gaza right now - at this minute. Israel are takin full advantage of not being the major spot-light of the media at the moment. They've bombed the shit out of Gaza & cut the electricity.
Its pure darkness & the Israeli's are firing flares in target areas & then bombing the shit out of it from the border & from Navy vessels too. They've got ground-troops in Gaza running amuck aswell..
I'm not sayin i buy into that conspiracy theory, but Israel are sure as hell takin full advantage of a much lowered media focus right now. Why arent Israel having sanctions for the atrocities they're committing?

The world has been mayhem over the past two years. It usually is, but with the failed states in Africa, escalation in Israel and Palestine, Iraq destabilising and this carry on in Russia and Ukraine, a conflict which directly involves the US, the tension seems to be unreal.
People are getting blown to pieces every week. Maybe it's always been like this, I just failed to really acknowledge it growing up, but something feels like it's coming to a head on this occasion. That's my youthful, naive take on it, anyway.

10 years ago or so, America was ready to blow up the Middle East, India and Pakistan were preparing for war, North Korea was still crazy and China was ready to invade Taiwan. Absolute mayhem, worried for days at times that something very, very big was going to happen

I know its an international flight corridor and also that nobody has a right to shoot down civilian aircraft, but if there were already 2 aircraft shot down in the vicinity, was it prudent for civilian aircraft to still fly over the area?

Most probably. Often wonder if we're just in a trough on the cycle of human conflict, if we're now forced to think more rationally because the weapons we have are too dangerous for tactical use, or if we've just become way better at fighting smaller, but more numerous proxy-wars

This has nothing to do with Gaza. That's an age old conflict between two very different sets of people that both hate each other immensely.
I wouldn't worry about it being the trigger for something massive. At worst it'd be a renewal of the Cold War between Russia and the west but I sense that China would be a thorn in either side and therefore nobody would risk anything.
We all know if we have another war it's the last one we'll ever have because of the nuclear situation and I highly doubt we'll all end up dead because of this.
Regardless of some of the negativity Obama & the West gets, there's no way they'd allow a world-wide fist-fight to happen again..
In saying that, the likes of Putin & many others, cant just be allowed to massacre people. My main gripe at the minute is with Israel. They're invading Palestine right now & Israel are justifying it by saying they're searching for tunnels that "Hamas" have dug into Israel to cause chaos.

The 1950's til now, isnt an age old conflict. Thats the root of the problem there - not the obvious history of Christians, Jews & Muslims battling over the Holy Land. Its about the now & Palestine being recognised as a State. Israel want to obliterate Palestinians & they're doing a friggin good job at it..

Russia armed the Ukrainian separatist
The Separatist are fighting the Ukrainian Government in Kiev
The Malaysian Airline are cruising above Ukraine at 33,000 feet (commercial air space, etc)
The Separatist gaining BUK missiles thinking that they're Ukrainian fleet and Shot them down
Russia don't want the mess to go out, put the blame on Ukrainian (comically laughable excuse)
The Separatist won't admit responsible
And I honestly don't think the Ukrainian are that stupid, and the reports that they have come up with seems logical and coherent with the current situation that unfolds, unless it's a super high level conspiracy, but IMO it's just a simple case of stupid fecked up idiots armed with SAM Missiles.
What's scary for me is that the terrorist around the world can use this BUK or its equivalent to simply blow shits up from the ground... terrifying, They should really not let this piece of artillery goes into the black market, or we'll be having planes shot down all over the world.
