Manchester United v Portsmouth

A good, solid confident performance hopefully. Pompey are a better side than the table suggests. I think they will hold out for a bit!

VDS
Brown-Evans-Vidic-Evra
Valencia-Carrick-Fletcher-Nani
Rooney-Berbatov

3-0

Second this.
This game could be tough, especially if they put 10 behind the ball.
It is also a good game to try Nani on the left, with Valencia on the right. We may find an answer to the question, whether Nani is better on the right or he's just on good form no matter where.
Also, Wayne to be substituted at 60 min. for Owen, or as soon as Wayne scores
Good game for Vidic to come back, if healthy of course

Looking at our fixtures after Villa game we dont play till the AC game. players will get a decent rest inbetween

what happened to rafael ?

the injuries are fecking annoying

With the last few results I can't see us going 4-4-2, to change a winning formula is madness so I think we'll start 4-3-3 again.

Front 3 probably being Rooney, Nani and hopefully Valencia.

We can always go to 4-4-2 and bring Berbatov on if we're finding it hard to break them down.

van der Sar

Neville
Evans
Vidic
Evra

Valencia
Carrick
Fletcher
Giggs

Rooney
Berbatov

SUBS: Kuszczak, Rafael, Brown, Scholes, Anderson, Nani, Owen.

Neville? that's the last person i wanna see in the team line up. I rather see Fabio in there. I prefer Mustache's man staying in bench and showing the middle finger to the opposition.

In the press conference boss said :
Young Rafa had a knock in the Arsenal game and hopefully will train today.

Vidic has been training for the last 3 days and hopefully after training today will put him in contention to play (boss said Sunday ... hope he knows game is on Saturday)

Rooney Play of Month Award in front of full training squad

Can see Ando in the background and appears to be smiling. Vida is there as well.

Good spot! He's hidden away in the background, but we know he's still alive at least.

didnt know players got an award for reaching 20 league goals

I would like to see:

VDS
Rafael Evans Brown Evra
Nani Carrick Scholes Valencia
Rooney Owen

But i think it will be:

VDS
Rafael Evans Brown Evra
Valencia Carrick Fletcher Nani
Berbatov Rooney

After seeing the recent injury news and training photo..

van der Sar
Brown Vidic Evans Evra
Valencia Carrick Anderson Nani
Berbatov Rooney

Might be cool. Prediction:

Man Utd 3-0 Portsmouth
Berbatov
Rooney
Valencia

I think people may be surprised in that Gary Neville may start tomorrow.

Given that this is a homegame, if Obertan, Diouf, Gibson, Kuszczak, Fabio and Neville start tomorrow, I wouldn't be surprised.

People see Portsmouth as a potential banana skin, and that may be the case, but the only thing which would surprise me to be honest would be for Fergie to pick his strongest lineup avaliable, so to speak.

I dont understand that line of thinking at all and would be utterly dismayed to see the likes of who your suggesting start this game, you talk as if weve just come back from a tough and gruelling midweek trip to outa mongolia or something? weve had a free week to prepare for this match, we have no game next weekend either so were hardly in the midst of a fixture pile up and have plenty of time for rest and recouperation in between fixtures, so im at a loss to understand your logic behind 'resting' half the team after theyve just had a week off?

I think its pretty safe to assume Sir Alex will pick as strong a team as possible and rightly so, were in no position to start taking anyone lightly and nor do we have to.

Why are you acting paranoid because I said I wouldn't be surprised if Sir Alex treated this game like a Carling Cup tie. I never said I expected him to, but if Fergie wants to look at fringe players or squad players in this game it's less risky here than to do it against say Villa or Milan, that's his perogative. I'm not going to freak out if he picks say e.g. Neville instead of Rafael, I won't be spouting psychotic hate-speech and ridiculous nonsense that missing the Portsmouth game would ruin Rafael's development and is throwing the game away. It might not be Rafael, it might be Fletcher or Carrick or Rooney, I don't know ... if he brings someone in, someone has to go out. I don't let these changes shock my system ... okay?

If Fergie wants to give Neville or any other squad player a chance I'm fine with that. I expect rotation to happen, it always happens, there are plenty of players who were benched not because they were tired, but because Sir Alex wishes to use his squad. If he wants to give five squad players a start, this might be his best chance to do so, if he desired. It's not like he hasn't done it ever before, even when he's been in a tight title race. I was being hyperbolic anyway.

Maybe you can explain to me why Welbeck and Obertan are getting starts this season even when there hasn't been fixture congestion or injuries/fatigue to more experienced players (e.g. Park, Nani, Giggs) and in what context you understand these decisions being made?

If you're dismayed everytime Gary Neville or Darron Gibson makes the teamsheet maybe for your sake you should get a little stress ball. I wouldn't freak out as if the game's been lost even before it began.

Sir Alex hasn't had a regular "First XI", so to speak for over 100 games and yet people somehow have "logically" come to the understanding that he has. This has nothing to do with logic, there's no formula or exact science applied here, it comes down to personal choice and preference. I'd be surprised if the "strongest side" was used on Portsmouth and then left unchanged for Villa so to speak.

I'm humble enough to accept that Sir Alex Ferguson doesn't think like me. It's his choices and it's his logic that determine the team. If he feels the need to experiment or give someone a chance, then so be it. United have strength in depth, I have faith in that, and experiment doesn't necessarily hurt.

There isn't any room to experiment - even he's said it his press conference, it is the team that is most consistent that is going to take the title. Experimenting is for league cups and FA Cups - not with the league.

Eh??? i merely stated id be extremely surprised and shocked if Sir Alex chose now of all times to suddenly 'rest' half the first team for a must win game at a crucial stage of the season when there is absolutely no need to whatsoever after a game free week, for whatever reason you’ve taken that totally out of context and as some sort of personal attack and gone on some bizarre rant half of which has nothing to do with what i said in the first place. :wenger:

Very strange indeed.

My thoughts exactly. Play the strongest team, we haven't had a game in six days time.

Van der Sar
Rafael - Vidic - Evans - Evra
Valencia - Carrick - Scholes - Nani
Rooney - Berbatov

We should have enough to beat them ;)

I hope we dont make too many changes to the team; we shouldn't underestimate anyone (look what happened against Leeds FFS!)

Play our strongest 11 from the start then make changes if all going well

Would love for Rooney to add to his goal tally today, would also love to see Diouf get some gametime.

That will be a  team, I can see Rooney rested for this match though and perhaps Evra too

With all the bad feeling in the Terry camp, with Chelsea facing a tough match tomorrow, I think we'll really turn the screw today.

5-0 - Rooney (2), Berbatov, Carrick, Fletcher.

the fergie will leave rooney out today and play owen with berbaflop

you heard it here 1st.

This is a good chance to rest Rooney and give berba a good oppurtunity to score a goal or 2 and give him a confidence boost.

Owen is going to Start and Biram Diouf will be on the bench and is expexted to make an appearance if the game is going well in the later stages.

most important thing is 3 points! 1-0 will do me.

3 points is the most important.

Jacob's prediction

You took everything I said bizzarely out of context, I'm entitled to do the same to you. I don't know why you can't tell the difference between "I believe" and "It wouldn't surprise me". You are encapable of reading anything without putting your own spin on it. If it takes half a page or an entire thread for me to tell you that so be it.

Who do you think you are mate?

I rather see Nani rest and give a chance to Obertan

nani Rest?

He's been on the bench and out with injury nearly all season

the fella has finally hit form and you want him rested?

Wrong thing to do if you ask me. Play the lad and hopefully by the time we get to milan he is in shit hot form and he blasts them out of it

I wouldn't rest Rooney or Nani. They've both been in lethal form lately. You don't rest your best players.

I still think we'll play 4-4-3, its the first time in months that we've played fluid total football. You don't change a winning formula, you want to build the momentum.

I don't think we'll go with that formation. The scousers might be a bit justified in their conspiracy talk if we do.
