Boxing Day.

Last home game in 2010.

Our first league game out of four in 10 days.

Let's hope there won't be too much snow outside Old Trafford that day.

@rioferdy5 Proper buzzing for this game, come on rio 3points is what we are looking for. let's av iiiiiiiiiiit!!

We've got Birmingham away after 48 hours, remember guys when you post line-ups.

Brum can wait, Sunderland first
Think the Boss will play a strong team against them

Sunderland at home:

.......Van Der Sar
Rafael - Ferdinand - Vidic - Evra

Nani - Carrick - Anderson - Obertan
.Berbatov - Rooney

Birmingham away:

....Van Der Sar

O'Shea - Smalling - Vidic - Evra

Nani - Fletcher - Carrick - Giggs

Hernandez - Rooney

Bit of a fecker having a tough trip to Birmingham 2 days after the Sunderland game plus being without Scholes and Park over this period isn't going to help squad rotation, then again having what will have been effectively a 2 week break before the Sunderland game maybe that will help avoid requiring major chances for these two matches, players should be very fresh really.

Allforone I think it's likely we'll see rotation too, bit weak in the ability to do that in midfield, unless Gibson returns.

Poneposted.

Their only away win this season has been at Stamford Bridge. I hope this will be an easy game for us so we can sub in players and rest a couple of starters for the Brum game.

And is Welbeck eligible to play against us or does the clause that says he can't play against his own team restrict him?

Lua Lua did a few years back

And scored aswell. That's why they changed the rule. Don't know about other leagues, but in France you can still play against your parent club. Mind you, imagine if some player scored against his parent club in a match which decides the title race. Wonder what will happen to him when he returns from his loan.

Players are capable of playing two games in a row in the space of days you know. I wouldn't feck around with changing the back line too much, let's keep it consistent.

In italy aswell, Borriello scored against Milan yesterday. Well, the defender shot the ball at him but anyway, roma won the game with that goal :)

They can still do it in the championship if there is a clause in the contract
I remember seip scored against plymouth last season

Except that we have four games in ten days from December 26th to January 4th and the two postponed games have to be played sometime soon. So we have to change our lineup.

----------------VDS-----------------
Rafael------Rio------Vidic--------Evra
Nani-----Carrick----Anderson-----Park
---------Berbatov--Chicharito--------

Subs: PIG, Smalling, O'Shea, Fletcher, Giggs, Rooney, Macheda.

We haven't seen Chicharito much lately, so I'd like to see him given a start, especially seeing as we have Brum two days later and I'd keep Rooney for that one if possible, but have him on the bench against Sunderland just in case.

Team should be...

GK: VDS

RB: Rafael
CB: Ferdinand
CB: Vidic
CB: Evra

RM: Nani
CM: Carrick
CM: Anderson
LM: Park

CF: Rooney
CF: Berbatov

Subs: PIG, Smalling, Fabio, Fletcher, Giggs, Hernandez, Macheda

Sunderland at home has been a real shit fixture for a while now, I can't remember the last really conclusive win we had over them so I reckon it'll be very very tight. I'll take any kind of win

Fergie will have to use his squad in the next couple of weeks, however I don't think there'll be too many changes in the next couple of games; the team need to get back together and play football, strike up the rhythm, as quickly as possible.

vs Sunderland: van der Sar, Rafael, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Nani, Carrick, Anderson, Park, Rooney, Berbatov.

SUBS: Kuszczak, Brown, Smalling, Fletcher, Obertan, Giggs, Hernandez.

vs Birmingham: van der Sar, Rafael, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Nani, Carrick, Fletcher, Giggs, Rooney, Berbatov.

SUBS: Kuszczak, Brown, Smalling, Anderson, Obertan, Hernandez, Owen.

It's more the fact that there's three games in six days, four games in ten.

Rio's ability to remain injury free is suspect, Vidic is a couple of bookings from a suspension, Edwin won't be overused as he has, there will be different tactical considerations for different opponents.

I wouldn't be so quick to rule out Brown, Smalling, O'Shea and Fabio each getting some gametime over this period.

I think they try to make the fixtures fair in terms of not travelling too far over the Xmas period. Could be wrong but I am sure that I have been told this over time.

This is the first of the reverse fixtures right?

so can anyone explain me why are we not playing West Ham as it was the first game of the season for us?

Erm Newcastle was the first Premier League game of the season for Man Utd. West Ham were beat 3-0 away to Villa.

This is true, but yet Arsenal still have to go to Wigan on the 29th, which isn't particularly kind. Generally speaking though, in days gone by, they've tried to avoid Portsmouth v Boro' on Boxing day, or other games of that ilk.

yeah ok, so why are we not playing them before playing Sunderland?

Yeah, they are oddly spaced apart. I think we play Birmingham City twice in the Premier League from December 28 - January 22 which is a bit strange (though something similar has probably happened before. I thought we'd usually play the other 19 teams once each before we'd faced the same team twice (this would have still happened even if the Blackpool and Chelsea games were not called off).

Anyway, for this one:

van der Sar
Rafael Ferdiand Vidic Evra
Nani Fletcher Anderson Park
Berbatov Rooney
--
Kuszczak; O'Shea, Smalling; Carrick, Giggs, Obertan; Hernandez

Similar team against Birmingham, though I can see the midfield being edited a bit to keep it fresh. Carrick would come in if he doesn't start here, probably Giggs too.

Big games, tough as well. If we do get the six points from these I'll be over the moon. Especially if Arsenal manage to hold Chelsea for once...
