Manchester United vs. CFR Cluj

Welbeck has been the only realy bright spot, not keen on Rooney and Powell playing so wide.

Can't see it being a big issue in this match. It's being played at a laboured pace and we have had the majority of possession. Scholes will sit the deepest of the three.

Clev did not look to bad when he walked off but has gone down the dressing room straightaway. Hopefully a precaution. He was able to hit a 30 yard ball without any reaction afterwards and did not look to be hobbling or anything. We will find out at 90 minutes but nothing overtly obvious.

It doesn't matter for this game really, but for (probably) the next month or so now, we have Fletcher, Carrick, Scholes, Giggs and Powell to choose from for center midfield. Couldn't have come at a worse time as well as late december/early january is probaby the busiest time of the season.

Do you even understand the concept of football ? There was no way Cleverley was gonna start the Man City match. If there was a perfect fixture for him and keep his fitness levels, it was tonight.
SAF cannot predict who will get injured and who won't :wenger:

Clearly you don't. If we even attempt a midfield of Scholes, Fletcher and Carrick against City it wil be a disaster. Now that looks like what we are left with, oh and Giggs!!

Love a bit of rubbish talking you do.

Even with our fantastic forwards, we have struggled against bottom of the league clubs/dross when one or more of that 3 have started. Yep compete rubbish! Wake the feck up.

Kagawa is possibility for the City game according to my old man.

We also have no idea if Cleverley is even injured. Like I said, we have no idea why he was subbed. Looked a precaution to me.

No chance was Cleverley playing regardless. There was a reason Fletcher, Carrick and Scholes weren't starting this one, and that is because it is painfully obvious that those 3 will start. Only way that would change would be for Cleverley to have scored a hat trick or something, which won't happen now.

We've said it numerous and pointed that the midfield selection that SAF chooses doesn't reflect what we want as fans.Just because we want Cleverley to start vs City, doesn't mean it would have happened.
Let's just say he was gonna that match, do you think he didn't need some match fitness before that massive game knowing he didn't play last weekend ?
If anything tonight was gonna be a good preparation for the derby for him.
SAF should have forseen the injury though

Would be great if true, but I though Kagawa was still a few weeks away. Hopefully your right about it just being a precaution as well.

Don't think it works having Powell and Rooney wide in a 442 because they need to be disciplined in their positions too much, in a 3 man attack they could drift more, reckon it would be worth moving Rooney ahead of giggs and scholes and go with welbeck and Powell flanking Hernandez.

Fletcher, Carrick and Scholes starting against City. I just cannot believe SAF has regressed so much if that's his idea on how to beat City. It's seriously unthinkable.

Yeah, he can, anyone can predict that Anderson and Cleverley are going to get injured a lot.

SAF has made worse tactical decisions in recent weeks. If he chooses that midfield, it will not tbe a sign of regression, just merely keeping up with his general agenda of this season

To be fair, in the past 25 years or so have we fielded a central pairing so lacking in energy and pace? It's not their fault that they're almost 80 combined, but playing them together? If I were the Cluj manager I'd switch to counter attack because you can run right through the pensioners with ease.

Sad for our club and for those two in particular to be forced into what is likely going to be an embarrassing 45 minutes.

How well did you think clev was playing? Or has been playing recently? Hardly like he can claim to be clearly in better form than them. I think he had 70% passing accuracy when he went off.

When Anderson got injured at the weekend and given our other mobile midfield options it made Cleverley one of the most crucial players in the squad. That's my point, it wasn't worth the risk to loose all this 'rustiness' after not playing for 2 weeks!

Having an injury prone player and knowing when to play him (when he won't get injured) is two different things. If Cleverley doesn't play tonight, when does he get his chance ? In a huge derby ? Whereas he wouldn't have played for the last couple of games..

So you'd want him thrown in against City lacking match fitness and be torn to shreds and make all his mobility useless?

He was playing better that the other midfielders on the pitch and played Hernadez through with a lovely ball. His passing percentage is never going to be too high as he attempts forward balls, unlike most of our other midfielders.

You're giving Cleverley more importance to the team than SAF has ever had.Cleverley is no way on the most crucial player in the team (even if Anderson is injured).Otherwise he'd have come on against Reading.
You're overrating him

Should we just revolutionize this bitch into a diamond. Move Scholes at the base, Giggs on the left, Powel to the right and Rooney at the tip.

Rooney on the right is not working.

How fecking boring is this game when there can be a full-blown discussion about SAF's midfield options for the City game during the fecker?

He didn't look too rusty for the 45 mins he's just played. If you want to see rusty/lack of match fitness watch Fletcher!

I hate the way the commentator keeps going on about how we are suppose to be ironing out the mistakes, do they realise this back 4 has never played together, and won't play at the weekend? Moron

Not based on the performance today but I always get the feeling that Lindegaard will be our number 1 keeper for years to come.
