Manchester United vs. Crystal Palace

Tbh Fergie should take most of the blame for that! It was largely unbalanced from the start and playing players out of position against a team that plays together most of the time was always going to be a problem! We looked better both second halfs! Don't understand why Valencia was played so centrally?!?

I disagree on that. Jones can cover CB, RB and CM while Ashley Young can play on both flanks and forward line. That does help the squad in depth. What is nailing us are 3 things. Injuries (we have too many of them) and SAF's obsession in overrating value signings (we lost more then 13m in shite players like Bebe, Tosic and Diouf) and not bringing in a good quality CM.

Devilish, do you argue for the sake of it.

Isn't that my exact point?

Can't blame the young lads, Fergie didn't have a single senior player on the bench, it was suicide. Valencia worked as hard as humanly possible but Park got worse as the game went on and Pogba looked every bit the reserve player. Smalling was class, Evans should have stopped their second, but in the end it all comes down to the crazy bench selection.

Park was rubbish but that doesn't excuse Valencia. I can't remember Antonio having a single '7' rated performance for us this season. Until the dying moments of injury time he seemed to forget he has the ability to take on full backs at speed, did virtually nothing but come inside and slow down our attacks.

The bench was fine. No senior players? Well sometimes you just gotta trust the youngsters to do the job their being talked up for don't you and the one or two experienced players in the mix to carry them through. That didn't happen tonight. Nobody except Smalling (who's hardly a veteran) actually played very well. The kids by and large were ok, the more tried players were dire. All and all a bad night for MUFC.

Maybe I've misunderstood you but I thought you said that this summer's signings do not help much our strength in depth. If I did misunderstood you, pls accept my sincere apologies.

The kids need experienced players around them, otherwise they're like lambs to the slaughter.

A balance of senior players with a couple of youngsters would give the kids their opportunity and they'd surely develop better in a winning side?

The two young lads everybody wanted to see was Morrison and Pogba, that was it. Put them on the bench, that's fine. But to fill out the whole bench with young lads (except the GK) was shocking. I'd have had Chicharito on the bench.

Cant believe i'll be supporting city

I'll never support City. Would rather see Liverpool get through into the final. They're not a threat to us at the moment like City, who cares if Liverpool win the Carling Cup? They haven't won a trophy in 5-6 years.

I don't want City's billions winning anything.

Our summer signings are fine.

I think players like Diouf and Macheda just aren't up to it. Macheda has never lived up to his earlier potential. I've seen nothing from Diouf to indicate he has what it takes.

And players like Pogba and Morrison would - in my humble - do better if played in a mainly senior side, where they can learn and develop.

Valencia cut inside a lot tonight but he looked about our only way through and worked tirelessly.

The bench wasn't fine, there was no reason a couple of our top players couldn't have been on it, Young and Rooney would have been enough for the last half hour to turn the game. There was way too many kids on there and who were the leaders? Park and Valencia were the senior players but hardly what I'd call our team leaders.

Before tonight Palace had failed to score for 4 games in a row. I can see why Sir Alex thought a team that started with our top scorer from last season, our most effective wide player from last seasons run in and his big game hunter would be alright. Actually when we brought the kids on in the second half of normal time the team improved. It was 'experience' that was letting us down. Why have Chico on the bench? We know what he's capable of this was a chance for the likes of Macheda to prove themselves and they didn't take it.

So , 2nd match in a row the officials had a serious hand in.

Credit to Palace for that performance though.

I'm always of the firm belief you need at least one or two proven match-winners on the bench, just in case. I was very surprised when I seen the bench with all young lads on it.

The problem with Valencia is that he's way too predictable. When he's not in form, it really shows like tonight. When he's in the mood, he'll go past you every single time. It just frustrates me that he defaults to knocking the ball forwards and trying to cross it. I know he's a better player than that. He may be a bit limited in his play but I've seen him mix it more than he is doing now. I'm not sure how much longer it's going to take him to reach some decent form but I hope it happens soon. He was awful tonight.

with all due respect to Palace losing to them at home is unreal and just embarrassing. :(

Does anyone really give a shit?
There are better ways I can think of spending £50. It would have been nice to see a team picked to win the game.

I thought Evans and Smalling played well but the rest were pretty poor.

Amos needs to learn that there are other ways of distributing the ball other than launching it out of his hands. I remember it happening in a previous game and it rarely works and costs us possession. He doesn't even throw it out. There were countless times when someone was free to pass it to and he just hoofs it. I don't see the point in playing our 3rd choice keeper. Rotate between De Gea and Lindegaard and either leave Amos in the reserves or sell him with Kuszczak.
I thought Gibson did alright as he tried to transfer possession from the defence to the other midfielders but he's never going to be a valued member of the squad so I don't see the point in playing him purely for the shop window. As for Diouf, he's never going to make it. He's not a winger either, so why bother?
Valencia was probably the most disappointing as we know what he can do. Perhaps he needs to be in a team playing well to do well himself because he did nothing special tonight once his run to the touchline and cross tactic was found out.

not only the loss hurts, but to see the twins and berbatov got injured is just as bad. we have too many injuries this season for my liking.

Does anyone really give a shit?

Yes.

How about opting out of the competition in the first place?

No.

Take a look at the calender and if you don't want the Premier League to have a winter break (or go up to 22 teams), there is space there. The Carling Cup is a good trophy, a good competition. It has history and is a chance to blood youngsters. I love it and am very sad today.

A friend on facebook. Weird to see Old Trafford so empty, its like watching a foreign league.

This. Amos did that countless amount of times and I got more frustrated every single time he did it. Horrible use of possession and not sure why he was satisfied with it. If we glorify keepers from other countries for their distribution, why dont we try and develop ours to be like that?
