Manchester United vs. Stoke City

Good to see De Gea in the starting XI if true.

I copied it from a MUTV reporter, think it's true.

#MUFC v Stoke: De Gea, Rafael, Rio, Evans, Evra, Valencia, Carrick, Scholes, Welbeck, Rooney, RVP

#MUFC subs v Stoke: Lindegaard, Anderson, Giggs, Hernandez, Nani, Powell, Wootton

Would be a good team but think Welbeck is getting put in the team a lot on the left without playing great. Still his work rate is great and he's an extra physical presence

OFFICIAL MUFC XI:

de Gea

Rafael
Ferdinand
Evans
Evra

Valencia
Carrick
Scholes
Welbeck

Rooney
van Persie

SUBS: Lindegaard, Wootton, Anderson, Powell, Nani, Giggs, Hernandez.

Good to see Nani in the squad.

Surprised to see Powell in the squad, he just played a match two days ago.

It amazes me how he can put Welbeck in the team on the left ahead of Nani.

Good XI
Think we'll be fine today against Stoke, we're normally good about worrying about how we play rather than they play, just make them adapt to us rather than them

Hoping for a big game from De Gea in a physical contest against Stoke

No Shinji :(

Still, a pretty good side despite having no Jones, Smalling, Vidic, Young, Buttner, Cleverley, Fletcher or Kagawa anywhere near it!

Yeah agreed especially with Scholes. Scholes is best utilised when he can spread the ball but Welbeck really drifts in when we play him wide. Surprising as well given Ando has had a week off. Reckon though it's cause of his workrate/height.

I'd prefer to see Nani out there today than Danny.

Same here. Even Kagawa.

What i dont understand is that welbeck on the left isnt an unknown either. Its been tried, hasnt worked.

Anyways, its still a team comfortably good enough to beat Stoke.

Shinji, Clev rested for the CL match. Plus both of them started both of their international fixtures.

Depends where Rooney plays how effective Welbeck can be. In an orthodox 442 I really don't think he's suited there, in a 433 where he can drift in a bit more than he can offer something, though he's not really sparked much this season. In general I think we need to play Rooney as he has been recently in that deeper role.

Could we possibly have a 4-2-2-2?

Valencia on one side with Rooney drifting in on the other with VP & Welbeck up top?

Welbeck isn't playing as a left winger, it'll probably be a similar system in which we ended the Newcastle Match. He and Rooney will keep on interchange their positions.

We need height, big reason why Welbeck starts as well I'd say.

I don't agree. Stoke are a big team but if we play our best players in their actual position, we should be able to win the game easily through our own football.

He isnt good on the left in a diamond system neither though.

I'm not surprised we are going with the traditional formation for this game, though I expect it will make it harder work for us than the diamond necessarily would.

I get the feeling that Sir Alex just wants to play him anyway he can, maybe regardless of form or the other players available. Height and presence might be the reason in this case of course.

Welbeck is quite frankly, shit, if not playing as a striker.

Maybe he'll prove me wrong today.

It took only one match for you to get that?

Well there's nothing to suggest otherwise is there? Hopefully he'll show what he's capable of today.
I really like him but he's been pretty shit so far.

Yeah I think he does want to give him games but for me he's not gonna be a winger and I think it would be better to give someone like Nani who needs games to find his form and is much better there time. But yeah I can see it being due to his physical qualities also I guess with Young returning Fergie is probably mindful that Welbeck's game time might get restricted.
