You can tell he's a bit hampered by that extremely cheap yellow but he's done alright.

People who question his game with the ball at his feet should watch this game. Composed and direct.

Edit: Subbed after 67 minutes.

3/7 in the Norwich game.
5/5 in the WBA game.
5/7 in the Cardiff game.

Not poor at all.

He got a yellow card for a perfect tackle tonight. But he does collect too many bookings generally.

Cards that were yellow - 97%

Number of yellow cards per match - 0.25

Cards that were red - 3%

Number of red cards per match - 0.01

Does he need to tackle so much though? Carrick probably tackles three times a game. The rest is him just putting himself in the right position to pick passes off. It reads like Fellaini's constantly hunting people down which I doubt he needs to do. Guess we'll see in time at United though.

He's a poor tackler.

Only Fulham’s Moussa Dembele won more tackles and none of this season’s top ten tacklers (in terms of quantity) could match Fellaini’s success rate of 85% - incidentally, just nine players attempted more tackles than his 99, and all of those nine players lost far more tackles than him

He made a poor early tackle tonight before getting booked for a clean one. After that he was clearly apprehensive when challenging for the ball, which made him look even clumsier than usual, but a poor tackler he ain't.

So, is he a usual starter for Belgium? Noticed he started ahead of Caf favourite Dembele today, is that usual?

So tackling a lot means he is a poor tackler?

No. I think that's more a lack of discipline that instead of just positioning himself better he feels the need to rush in, or so the stats would suggest. There's a reason Carrick never tackles, and Fellaini often does. Perhaps that's more to do with your style of play. But like I said, we'll wait and see how he actually plays for us; that's when we'll all get a much closer look at him.

On a side note, I think the advantage of the Fellaini signing is that it allows us to play a (potential) front four of RVP, Rooney, Kagawa and Nani - which is pretty lethal as well as being versatile and fluid. We can do this by nature of having 2 CMs who are defensively responsible - Carrick and Fellaini.

Did he play against Scotland?

67 minutes. Had a decent game, a bit sluggish due to the pouring rain. Had some excellent touches given the conditions out there and was involved in their goal with a quick pass out wide to De Bruyne who crossed for Defour.

I think he reminds me a bit of the way Yaya plays. Can play as the defensive midfielder but probably lacks the positional nous to excel at it. He's more effective with a bit of freedom to get forward and can pay you back with goals. Hopefully, he develops the same ability to score the crucial goals.

He is Yaya with a fro.

Marouane Fellaini 'will be integral to Manchester United's success'

Steve Round, the Manchester United assistant manager, believes the club's £27.5m signing Marouane Fellaini is the complete midfielder they have been searching for.
Fellaini joined close to Monday's 11pm transfer deadline for £4.5m more than his buyout clause, after this was allowed to expire by the manager,David Moyes, who believed he could be acquired for less.
"When David came here he looked at the squad and thought one of the players we needed to bring in was someone with those physical attributes in the middle of midfield who could give us strength and aggression in certain games and maybe allow one or two of the others to play," Round, who was also Moyes's assistant at Everton, told the Manchester Evening News. "That, coupled with his ability to score, made him feel Marouane would be a really good acquisition for United. When you get to work with him every day, you get to realise that technically he is excellent.
"He is a 10 to 15 goals a season man and that is good from midfield. He can play No4, sat in front of the defence, he can play an eight in the centre doing box-to-box and can play a No10 where he drops off the front man. That's valuable when the range of games is so varied.
"His chest control is arguably one of the best in the world. You can bang the ball at him from anywhere and he will bring it down on his chest and bring others into play. His feet and his technique work are really good. He is aggressive and tackles. He also has great fitness stats. He will regularly do over 12k a game and he can run, goodness me he can run. He is a lot better footballer than he gets credit for and he has good passing ability."
Round believes Fellaini offers a new dimension to United. "He doesn't have the same range as a Michael Carrick in his long passing but his continuity and the way he keeps the ball and short passing is very good," he said. "When you are building a squad to compete on all fronts you don't want every single player to be the same. You want options and differences. In a certain game it might be Tom Cleverley and Carrick in midfield, it might be Fellaini and Carrick, or Fellaini and Anderson. It has given the manager options he didn't have before.
"Marouane was ready for this step up. He'll fit in well with the professionalism here and relish the challenge. I am sure Marouane will settle in very quickly and be an integral part of United's success in the future, I really do."
Round has no doubts that Moyes will be a success as Sir Alex Ferguson's replacement. "Without a doubt David was ready for this job," he said. "I had five years at Everton with him and he impressed me every day. There is not a day goes by where you take your foot off the gas with him. He is 100% every day with an incredible work ethic. He also has an incredible desire to succeed. He now has the stature and presence to move to a club like this. I really do believe he will be a big success here.
"Now I have been in this club and environment I can understand why Sir Alex and the board appointed him, to keep that continuity, work ethic, drive and feeling about the club going. It was very important to them and I can understand now that I have been here and lived it. They were made for each other."

Following a summer of transfer feckups, spin control seemed to have kicked in with some tenacity this week.

Yep, that's what I want to see too.

De Gea
Rafael Vidic Rio Evra
Carrick Fellaini
Nani Rooney Kagawa
Van Persie
That looks brilliant, no idea how it'll play obviously but I see no reason why it couldn't be tried out against Crystal Palace.

Carrick isn't a great tackler which is why he doesn't tackle that much. His positioning is good but he's not as great defensively as people make out. He would definitely be better if his tackling was better.

Welbeck will probably play given his international form and can't see Rooney being left out. I fear kagawa sits out again :(

I'm not sure Rooney will be ready to play again after his injury and he'll have lost even more match fitness from missing the past week or so - he was already behind other players in terms of fitness too.

I suspect - and hope - that we'll start with Nani on the right, Kagawa in the centre, Welbeck on the left and van Persie up top. All four of those players are fit and ready to play and will have all had some time with their national teams this week. Welbeck being suspended for the midweek game is ideal for us too; get him a rest so he's nice and sharp for the Palace game and hopefully feeling confident after his 2 goals last night.

I agree

Giving Kagawa some football needs to be a priority

Like that team above with Nani, Rooney and Kagawa - it seems very well balanced and Evra gives you excellent width on the left if Rooney and Shinji are fluid in the movement and positioning
