I wish people will judge him when he's had a decent run of games whilst being injury free.
I love how everything has to be extremes for some people in here.
There's absolutely no contradiction between these two posts - Of course he's a good footballer, and of course he's not "top class".
I think it's fair to say that a lot of people are, albeit when he was at Everton.I wish people will judge him when he's had a decent run of games whilst being injury free.
He really isn't, he's an average player whose one saving grace was his ability to make a nuisance of himself in forward positions. He's not now, or will he ever be, a top class midfielder, there is not one element to his game that would put him in that bracket.

With the return of Fletcher who is looking good, this isn't the case anymore.
We have Mata now, and if we get another top midfielder to play alongside him, I see no reason why Fellaini won't be a very good player for us from next season onwards.
This season is probably a bit of a write off due to injuries and the fact that he doesn't really have a partner who suits him.

Honestly what are his strengths in midfield. He's slow and cumbersome. He is an okay passer, he has a good physical presence. But against the best teams the game will pass him by.
Does he have strengths I'm missing out on? I haven't watched much of him admittedly.
Why does he need a top midfielder alongside him for him to become very good? That has to be the definition of a passenger, which is exactly what we don't need. It might be a bit hypocritical of me because I defend Cleverley a fair bit on here but it's a sign of his lack of quality if we need to put classy players next to him for him to play well. Carrick didn't have anyone top class next to him last season and he was excellent. Rafael didn't have a top class winger in front of him yet he was excellent, RvP didn't have great service yet he was excellent. Fellaini's qualities shining through shouldn't only be dependent on those around him. Someone said it earlier but he's currently getting bullied by players he would normally bully when he was at Everton. It creates a perceived lack of effort and I think there would be a lot more patience amongst our support if he was even just doing those basic things that made him so difficult to play against. We have Mata now, and if we get another top midfielder to play alongside him, I see no reason why Fellaini won't be a very good player for us from next season onwards.

I totally agree! I think we should all start again with Fellaini and cut him some slack! Let's judge him in a month or so when he has had the chance to play without injuries and has some real fitness. He is not a world beater and never will be but he could be just what we need in front of the back four if he can play to his potential.I wish him well and I am open minded about what he can achieve. What's become abundantly clear is that his wrist and back injuries have had an impact - certainly explains why he was playing like a cowardly fanny.
A fit and confident Fellaini is capable of putting in domineering performances.
I never thought he was right for us, but both Moyes and the player are on record as saying CM is his long term position - we should have some faith in that and give him a chance to prove us wrong.
He deserves another chance. But I hope he attempts to atleast run. Quite a few games, when we got hit on the break he was just casually jogging back.

Like the last 5 years? Even Everton fans would tell you he isn't the player for Manchester United. We're relying on blind hope with this one unfortunately.I wish people will judge him when he's had a decent run of games whilst being injury free.

And thinks their team is better off without him if I remember right. A team that hasn't got close to Utd in years. The transfer still baffles me.Well not one of my mate is an Everton fan but the resident Everton fan does seem to rate him highly.
Writing it off is based on 5 years in the EPL. Fellaini was never United quality and never will be. I understand if we were talking about Anderson, Nani or Ronaldo type of transfer - unknown highly rated youngster, but with Fellaini what's unknown?I definitely think it is better to write-off a player before he's really settled.

He was good for Everton certainly, but he was good as a #10 or stuck infront. Why would he ever bring to our game however playing like #10 and why would ever he be more appropriate than Rooney, Kagawa and now Mata, playing there?
I forgot that players don't develop..And fellaini made his name initially as a more defensive CM and was getting linked to bigger clubs.
They can develop but fellaini basically has to change who he is. All his qualities come from being an aggressive player and heading the ball or chesting it down. He's got a decent touch, he's slow, he's not a very hard worker (even the Everton fan here said he's pretty lazy), he's not even that great of a tackler seeing he fouls the opposition all the time. Players can develop, but he'd require a drastic change in who he is to turn into a player that suits us. It was just a bad signing. He can become a decent squad player at the best of times, and I'm sure most on here would be relatively ok with it if we signed a top player and bought him for like 15m at most, which was closer to his value.I forgot that players don't develop..And fellaini made his name initially as a more defensive CM and was getting linked to bigger clubs.

Also literally the only top clubs he was ever linked with were united since moyes took over and then arsenal. I don't actually remember anyone going for him, because most top clubs require talent on the ball for you to succeed in midfield.

He had a release clause (which wasn't that big). If someone wanted him, they would have used that release clause. Not that it has the slightest relevance to anything but he was linked to pretty much everybody.
That injury was the problemI know.
Just saying. He's looked frightened in his short time with us so far.
If Fellaini had played today we'd have won comfortably.
