Marouane Fellaini | 2013/14 Performances

He did a good job today, looks a little different, i'd like to see what he can do over the course of 10 games, it'd be good for the team to have some stability in midfield.

Considering he's been out for a while, I thought Fellaini had a decent game. His passing distribution was good. It's probably not one his strong points but he always looked for that forward pass. He got himself into decent positions. Was unlucky not to get a goal. His defensive contribution was pretty good too, although I'd still like him to be a bit more aggressive.

There were a few times today when he got knocked off the ball way too easy for a man of his stature. He needs to use his body better, in my opinion. I know he can bully players, I've seen him do it for Everton.

All in all, decent game for Marouane. Really hope he can build on this performance.

I think if people remove the conspiracy theory of " he will only cause us to play long balls all the time" as well as him being completely immobile and we can get some positive feedback. It was good to see him have a good run against weaker opposition, because he needed a more comfortable game to ease himself back into it. When you watch him in the middle, it seems so hard for players to get the ball off of him in the middle because of his strength and large frame. We need that sort of composure in the middle, and that easing of passing through the middle to build it up. He's not that sort of player to play killer balls through the middle as Carrick is more likely to, but he will be more of a threat in the box and making runs as he showed today, which is what we've been missing for a while. An added threat to set pieces is never a bad thing either.

Good to have him back, despite his poor form early on we've probably still missed him

Poor early form? He's played nowhere near enough games or been fit longer enough to ever make that call in his United career so far.

This run of games is literally going be the first chance to judge his value for United. His injuries have been very frustrating.

He's obviously going to have to show more to be a starter in the long run but we looked a lot better in midfield with him in there today.

Couldn't have called it better myself. It would be like us judging Rooney for the first time after coming back form injury. An extreme example, but one to make.

Thought a few of his passes were sloppy and slowed us down sometimes but overall a solid showing from the big man

I got to be honest, the amount of discussion Fellaini has generated this season has baffled me. I've been waiting for him to actually get fit to try and actually make a judgment on him. Unlike plenty of others I have actually been looking forward to seeing him play for the club such has been the lack of transfer activity since 2007 when it comes to midfielders.

I don't seen him as the answer to all of our problems but as a good central midfielder who gives us variety and different options in the centre of the park and he is young enough to get better over time.

If he breaks down again before the season's out, it will be very frustrating.

I can understand the criticism he gets due to his price tag being £4 million more than we could have got, because that is a lot of money. But if we ignored the price tag which isn't extortionate in all circumstances, he could be a useful player in the holding role. Not only can he provide that sort of role, but he can provide a threat in the box that none of our other CMs have done so. Note that none of our CMs have reached double figures in god knows how many years (albeit Fellaini was in an advanced position). Yet the fact he provided goals is an advantage to us, as it shows he has an attacking instinct, and it can only provide us some hope in the future for him, be it he establishes a first team role or someone who rotates in or out for us.

He did pretty well today, though I thought he started to get slightly more sloppy as he got tired. But that's to be expected.

Much improved today - possibly his best performance for us but...for a club the size of ours and with aspirations for competing for the top trophies, it is the bare minimum you'd expect from any player and most of the time it has need to be better.

We don't play Crystal Palace every week, so needs to continue his improvement but it's an encouraging sign...given some time to integrate for the rest of this season and a full pre-season, I'd hope for a much-improved player.

Fair play to him, I thought he did a good, composed job, especially for someone who has been out for so long.

In saying that, not trying to take away from it but I played with and against Jedinak a few years ago and it's not hard to play dominate a midfield with him in it. So a huge money signing would find it quite easy. Needs to do it in Europe now.

Positive signs though.

I was really pleased and pleasantly surprised with his performance today, kept the ball well, made good forward runs, defended well. On another day he could've grabbed 2 goals.

I only watched the first half and i was surpised that for many periods he was the most advanced player in our team. He was basically playing in the penalty box when we were attacking with Mata and Rooney filling in for him in the center. When we were defending he was playing moe as an orthodox cm.

I liked the buil up to his scuffed chance but overall wasnt impressed.

Well I imagine the fecker has gotten a bit better since

Did a good job of not being as bad as Cleverly today. He should kick of from this performance.

Apart from that miss, he did a good job and created plenty of space for Mata and Rooney to run into. His presence should, in theory, relieve Rooney of his need to drop back into his own half to get the ball.

A lot better, he was a late bloomer but he isn't a good footballer (at the top level). Does a defensive job very well though. Great guy though.

I thought he played quite well, certainly felt more encouraged seeing him like this. Made a few good interceptions and showed his strength to get away from people. His passing was fairly basic but tbh I think we'd be alright with him doing that simple role and occasionally bursting forward. We need more solidity and he looked like he could give us that. When we get the attack to click a bit better and hopefully Carrick finds some form then whilst he might not be quite the quality we need, for the league he could be a useful player. That said this wasn't exactly the toughest test, but it's a starting point.

Quite liked watching him play today, passed it about, got involved in the thuggery. Missed the lineup and so didn't have a clue but turned the game on and saw his wig and though wow.

Good*.

Great in comparison to what he showed during the first half of the season, but yeah - I meant good.

With all due respect but why should we compare to what he showed during the first of half of season? Why do we even care about that? The judgement line is whether his performances match that of a player of a team than constantly compete in 3 fronts or not.

That's the problem with us guys and why the team has been allowed to go to the dogs. While every team constantly strengthen itself bringing top quality players to sort any issues and remove the weak links, we're happy when players improve a bit, they occasionally play well and are able to do the job. No wonder why, while others have the likes of Sanchez, Iniesta, Messi and Xavi we are lumped with Fellaini, Valencia, Young and Cleverley.

In my opinion Fellaini performance was still below the level expected. He is still too slow, his finishing was poor and he occasionally passed the ball straight to opposition (even though stats will say something else since he plays so safe). Yeah using the Paddy Crerard frame of mind it was an improvement to what we've seen before. There again we were playing Palace and Not Real Madrid.

I think with Fellaini we are just going to have to adpot the old saying, 'only as good as your last game'.

Sometimes we will hate him, sometimes we will love him.

Pass stats are good but others are less impressive.
3 out of 3 tackles successful... is that good? Genuine question, obv the fact they were all successful was good but if expect a cm to try more tackles. ..

I thought he played well yesterday, the ground he covered was the most pleasing aspect although he still seems quite lethargic.

After long time out in a bad season where he has clearly had trouble with the psychological aspect of being a 27m United player, it was promising. It was always going to take him a while to get his form, it was never going to be in his first year...I find it surprising that people were willing to give kagawa a year (now two) to find form but not fellaini. I know he had played in PL for the years but still. .. is a massive change for him and will always take time.

He won't be a world beater but he'll be a damn good player, and until we get the likes of fabregas/Vidal/kroos In our side that's all we can hope for at this point.

Give him time

I thought he did well today, I can see certain parts of his game were not quite acclimatized to our fluidity today, but regardless he did a very goo job alongside Carrick holding it down in midfield. I was very delighted to see him start today, the way I was looking at it it was his first game in a United shirt. I know that may seem as a bit of a weird analysis, but as I had said before when we bought him he had very little match fitness and even more importantly he was injured as well. Now that he is healthy we can get quite the idea of what he can bring to Manchester United, we should gauge his performances from now until the end of the season without letting our pre-existing notions of earlier in the year cloud our judgement of him.

It is very evident he is more comfortable with his teammates after settling in in practice. Now we must weightI'm confided he can be a good player for us.

I have to respectfully differ on this part mate. More tackles =/= better midfield or defensive work. The likes of Redondo, Maldini, Makelele, Blanc could go through whole games without making even a single tackle. Their anticipation was so immense that they diffused situations way before the need for a tackle arose. Now I'm not in any way comparing Marouanne to those guys. But I thought he picked up good defensive positions yesterday and didn't have to rush into tackles just for the sake of it.

Did well yesterday, encouraging to see him get into the box a lot as well. Iv always said he will come good with the right players around him and I still think that.

I expect more from a 27 million pound player. Sorry
Well at least you Apologised because that's a terrible attitude as a fan to have. The amount you spend on a player doesn't dictate how good they are.

We overspent on fellaini, that's never been disputed and it will never change. That isn't his fault is moyes and more so woodward. We fecked up the summer transfer window and got rightly punished for it.

It's not his fault, and if anything is one of the reasons he's taking so long to settle in. So how about you don't judge a player in his first 10 games yeah?

He looked a completely different player to before his injury. He was doing all the stuff he looked too scared to do previously.

I think we've become so shite during his absence that he no longer feels he's surrounded by superior players.

Best I've seen him in a Utd shirt. Also maybe just because I haven't seem him in weeks but I thought he looked to have bulked up a bit, put a bit more muscle on him.

Who have thought a player might take a bit of time to settle eh!
