Marseille Vs Manchester United

The thing that hurts me most is that we are playing so uninspiring.
2006/2007 and onwards up until this year I was excited about every game we played in the CL... But watching this hurts at times, it really does.
Hoofing the ball forwards, some downright awful passes from our CM, nothing creative or unexpected at all (well apart from Gibbo's dribble in the first half).

Can anyone lend me a sniper rifle? If I camp out at whichever stadium itv are next presenting from I reckon I can take Adrian Chiles out with a headshot. Proper YouTube moment it'll be.

Maybe Gibson should come off and Scholes, Carrick and Fletcher could maybe then dominate. Carrick will be under less pressure if Scholes is on so he does not have to worry about being a playmaker.

Strange idea that, lets take off the only midfielder that seems to be able to find a teammate.

I thought Rooney did Ok on the left. Linking up quite well with Evra.

I see no reason to change it. Keeps going like this a chance will come around. I have been reletively happy with our all round performance.

If I was a Marseille fan I wouldnt be happy at all.

Yup performance has been all right. It's the sort of performance you expect from United away now. Just need to nick a goal now.

Agreed. They are the home team yet they have done very little. We're still awaiting an onslaught from them. So how about we show the initiative and take the game to them instead. I want us to really turn up the heat and get that away goal.

I have been following United for a lot of years and to see Carrick, Gibson and Fletcher in Uniteds midfield is pitiful. That first half showed what all 3 lack, invention. You see Smalling with no experience, looking the part out there and those three, looking out of their depth.
They are just not United quality!!

Deffo need Scholes, possibly to replace Gibbo or Carrick

We need Carrick on the field for defensive duties. Scholes needs to come on to be a play maker and Fletcher can just run and close people down and give their midfielders a hard time.

There is no point playing Rooney on the left. He's wasted there. We keep talking of how Rooney has lost that "spark" he used to have but being sacrificed for the good of the team for the last 4-5 years has not helped.

Disagree. He's barely ever been 'sacrificed', usually away from home in Europe. Besides a player of his 'kind' shouldn't feel sacrificed on the left, he should be pretty good there given his skill set. He has a great football brain, can (could) run at defenders, has (had) a good long range shot and can pick out a good pass. So I don't see why he should be so bad in that position, and unlike Berbatov he does have the pace and mobility.

We've been playing like this in European Aways like this for the last two years.

Don't know why people moan about the same things in every matchday threads of European Away matches, we'll probably switch to 4-4-2 in the last 15 minutes and try to win, otherwise the main aim is to contain.

Marseille are poor and we don't need to win so this suits our style of play perfectly.

Gibson's been very decent with some of his forward passes but my god how clueless he is positionally. Things happen around him and he's just sort of there, ball watching.

Carrick on the other hand reads the game brilliantly, intercepts, then occasionally tries to pass the ball forward and baby jesus cries.

Fletcher runs around.

Benfica away? The match Rooney played left back and we won 1-0? Then that awful Milan game. We've become more professional in our approach now even if that leads to some shockingly poor football.

So do I but I expect Fergie to be pleased with a 0-0 draw. We beat this Marseille 9 out of 10 times at OT.

Oh piss off

Some training needs to be done in terms of positioning when the CB have the ball, it's like the midfielders are afraid to ask for it and build the play. Therefore the CBs just hoof it up

He's been played tons of times on the wings to cover for Ronaldo over the years.

Why?

A 0-0 score-line would be great for them. One away goal and we'd have to get two. I think we're the ones more desperate to score right now and rightfully so.

But we're doing fine so far.

Just because it is to be expected it doesnt make it alright at all.
It has been awful stuff from us.
Even after the shite performances in our away games so far I expected more from us so far.

'Tons' is an exaggeration. Besides, as I said, there's no reason for him to look so inept there. Put Villa on the left and he does fine. Rooney doesn't play in that position the way he's capable of. The answers are within.

Given our away record this yer, I'll take a draw no matter the score. We should be able to beat Marseille at OT.

I think there is a big misunderstanding.Using a cautious tactic in European away matches doesn't necessarily translate a collection of shit individual performances.
I understand the logic but in previous even in away games, the players played better than in this first half

This Brandao is a dirty fecker, hopefully Vidic gets him back for that
