MERGED: Rooney signs new contract!

SAF said he asked Rooney to respect the club but he doesn't think he has done that.

Can everyone stop turning on each other for their differing reactions? It's like a bloody school playground.

When we were at 2-2 and the fans were chanting for Wayne Rooney, it put pressure on the players and it didn’t do any good for the team. So we’ve got to clarify the situation and try to do it right.

Why not? We don't know his reasons for wanting to leave. Fergie said Rooney's agent said he wanted to leave in August, isn't that shortly before the NOTW broke the story about his private life?

There's a way to leave a club...This is not that way.

He has treated us like shit.

whos the legend out of those 3?

Obviously Ronaldo. He'd be the only one that would get an amazing reception should he return to play at Old Trafford again out of those 3. He always stated that he dreams of playing in Spain years and eons before actually leaving.

Rooney has shown himself as being a cnut of the highest order.

Things like this make you really appreciate just how legendary Scholes and Giggs really are

had a meeting with the boy and he reiterated what his agent had said. He wanted to go. I said to him, 'Just remember one thing: respect this club.' I don't want any nonsense from you, respect your club. What we're seeing now in the media is disappointing because we've done everything we can for Wayne Rooney, since the minute he's come to the club. We've always been there as a harbour for him. Any time he's been in trouble, the advice we've given him – I've even been prepared to give him financial advice, many times. But you do that for your players, not just Wayne Rooney. That's Manchester United. This is a club which bases all its history and its tradition on the loyalty and trust between managers and players and the club. That goes back to the days of Sir Matt. That's what it's founded on. Wayne's been a beneficiary of this help, just as Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and all the players have been. That's what we're there for.

There's been no falling out. That's why we need to clarify the situation now for our fans. Because what we saw on Saturday was unacceptable. When we were at 2-2 and the fans were chanting for Wayne Rooney, it put pressure on the players and it didn't do any good for the team. So we've got to clarify the situation and try to do it right. There's no [specific] offer on the table for Wayne [at the moment]

Well if he joins City im sure we will know the reasons... The only way we will know if those stories affected him is if he moves abroad

i love fergie
that mutv interview was painful .. he really looked disappointed

i dont doubt for a moment fergie is worried about replacing the player on the pitch .its just that rooney was always thought of as more than a player

If I was Gill I would release a statement that Manchester United are accepting closed bids for the player on the 1'st of Jan and the highest bid over and above our reserve will be accepted.

We're not selling a fecking bungalow.

Does that mean that's the last of Wayne in a United shirt?

That's so stupid though.

what, there are no whores in Spain or Italy?

The birds there are less fit?

Real Madrid is the monastery for players...

Its' more a case of a fresh start rather than no distractions.

Wayne Rooney needs to become more of a man than more of a footballer. At the moment he's a second rate man but a 1st rate footballer.

However we've seen this before.Players at their peak self destructing; great and talented players. Rooney isn't patch on Best or Gascoigne at their best but they imploded with the world at their feet. The same could be said about Stan Collymore...great talent but somewhere in somepeoples' psyche is that innate ability to throw it all away.

I'm not sure we've heard the last of Rooney's off field problems

Amazing quotes from Ferguson. Defending Rooney no longer. 'The fans need to know. It went to 2-2 (v WBA)& everyone's chanting Wayne Rooney?'

Fergie isn't that sort of a sly cnut.

Hugely disappointed by Wayne. United went on before you and will go on after it.
Time to bring in the youth

That's naive if you ask me. Of course he is a sly cnut. Most extremely successful people are sly cnuts.

maybe if this had been mentioned by the club that wouldnt of happened seeing as they already knew

Will Rooney Play for Us Again?

Assuming the situation doesn't change, do you think he will play for us again before he leaves?

I can't see it helping the rest of the team if we know he is going.

The problem is, Fergie has been pretty civilised in all this to be fair to him. He looked genuinely upset to be talking about it and that is after knowing for months Rooney wanted out. He'll be at City next season, can't see where else he could go.

The problem now is that the Rooney team will turn this dirty and make United/Fergie look like the bad guy. The Glazer/investment in the team will be brought up again which is valid, but let's face it, Rooney is being swayed and money talks. Let's hope he is burnt out. Let the bidding commence.

Atleast Ronaldo said from 18 years old that his dream was to play at Madrid one day.

Rooney. Oh dear.

Why in the summer? I can understand if he wanted to leave after his scandal broke. But why in the summer? It has to be money.

From what I've read on the interview on MUTV, it's not about money. We were willing to match any offer. So why?

Giggs, Scholes and Neville - the last of their kind.

I'm not really too bummed about it though. If he wants out, feck him. We'll cope, we always do. As long as we still have SAF we'll be fine.

My god, Ferguson has just put Rooney to the sword. This will unite the fans and players all behind the team again. Backs to the walls attitude. Playing a blinder here. But it does worry me that all this does is reduce the overall pricetag round Rooneys neck. Either way, unless Rooney does a massive U-Turn again, he'll be off in January.

Has anyone ever seen Fergie like this!? I have a feeling there could be more to this than meets the eye.

How Nike knew before all of us:

Of course he will. There is no logical reason why he wouldnt.

When he came on he hardly tried that much was obvious to the fans, players and to the opposition
