MERGED: Rooney signs new contract!

How can they possibly play Wayne now really. Wont subject him to the abuse at Eveton, lol at the abuse from this, he's hardly looked interested since the Bayern injury, which I always said was that he's never allowed his injury to fully heal, which is probably partly the case, but we at least now theres more to why he's been awol and looked disinterested this season.

Probably pull a Keane, and it'll be a mutual terminator......I am kidding here, I hope. -_-

Only because we broke our wage structure for him.

To be fair though, our wage ceiling at the time was much lower than all the top club's on the continent that would have been queuing up to sign him had he left.

They fact we broke our wage structure for him helped move the ceiling up to the level required to continue building great team's with wages to match our player's status.

I'm guessing.

"Wayne Rooney remains a United player contracted to play for this club. By request of the player we are now open to offers but will only listen to any offers that reach our valuation of the player"

I've waiting for a statement all fecking day. And all I've got is cows and fields going around in my head.

That's not the case right now? All the team interested and even the Milans have players on their books that earn about 50k+ than Rio does.

Loved the passage from SAF last night.

Having lived with this for a few days now, Im quickly coming to the following conclusions:

1. Rooney is having a personal crisis. Its just not possible for human being to ensure the amount of critical attention that he has been under since just before the world cup (albeit much of it of his own doing because of his character flaws and disgusting personal behaviour). Im convinced that he is in meltdown right now and so his actions and behaviours are compleletl irrational. Its probably abit like what some women ensure just after giving birth - the hormones go all haywire and they change.

2. That being said, we are now seeing the true shades of his character, his 'dark' side if you like and its thoroughly unpleasant. When the hooker story first came out, countless poster on here relentlessly debated that 'they could not care less about his 'off field' antics, he was a footballer and they could only judge him on footballing merits. That was a very naive view ... people are holistic and entire, you can't separate the man from his profession, not with people like Rooney who have to express there very essence as a human being to be successful. Cantona, Keane and Ronaldo were very similar. What Rooney is manifesting right now is that is a unseemly cnut and Im not sure I want people like that at the club that I support.

3. What pisses me off most about his contrived statement is that as one of our best paid players, its HIS JOB to improve the team and ensure it stays at the standards that he thinks we are supposedly heading towards. Its his job to set the standards for the new young players, to inspire and mentor them just as he was mentored by the likes of Keane and Rio and Giggs. That what happens when you mature a little and get older. What else is he being paid such vast amounts of money for?

4. I have never ever doubted SAF and yet again, we have all seen these past 48 hours why you never should. He is Manchester United right now, its his values and character that defines the club of which we are all so proud to support. With him around, no matter what we achieve in the future, I will remain proud of this club.

5. We should sell him asap and move forwards. We have done it before and we will do so again. Im over him already ... it didn't take long. As President Jed Bartlett would say "Whats next'?

Great post. Agree with you 100% on every single point.

Been updating twitter every 10 seconds for the last 1 hr, still no announcement.

I know, I'm just pointing out that moving with the times for Keano probably helped us in the longer run, before that we were always banking on player loyalty to fend off the Italian club's in particular.

I'm not suggesting we do that now though, wages have gone potty over the last couple of years, we're heading for half a million a week at this rate, I'd imagine Rooney will be pocketing £1m a month at City(I think he's going there) which is quite frankly a disgusting state of affairs. It's simply ludicrous and unsustainable.

Liverpool have made a bid for Rooney after he said he wanted to play in a different league next season.

i thought we were supposed to be putting this to bed today?

I can't understand all the pundits, managers etc talking about him changing his mind and staying etc. I don't want him here anymore after thisa, he's really destroyed everything I ever felt for him as a players. Several years of support gone in a few days.

I can kind of understand Keane getting pissed off and trying to distance himself from us at times, every time i see him on SSN he's not been talking about Ipswich or Sunderland he's been talking about Man United.

OT, I know, but I have been thinking this a lot recently.

It's like he has only gone into management because it gives him the opportunity to get on his soapbox once a week about the issue of the moment and quite a few of them have involved Manchester United.

Ok... carry on...

when will they make this fukin statement? I've waited all day, now i've got a fecking headache. The statement better be worth the wait...

Well, to be fair to him, he's just been asked questions. It's hardly as if a reporter goes 'So Roy, you're playing Coventry Tomorrow'. 'Ah, nevermind that, any questions about United? Arsenal? Liverpool? Come on, give me something'.

If Im not wrong, one of the privileges of being appointed a Knighthood is that you can parade and walk your herd of cattle through the city streets. Given that SAF has enjoyed his deserved title for over 10 years now, he is just referring to a life that none of us is privileged to live by!!
