He was okay, Carrick and Cleverley deserve credit for making it tough for him. I'd want a little bit more from him if he was on my team though and I'm a big fan of his.
Really? Giroud and Ozil are a brilliant match, he's excellent at making runs and that's Ozils speciality. It was just his finishing was utter dross today.
Giroud has his limitations but his holdup play and bringing others into the game is a big reason for your attacking success. Its certainly a different style to previous Arsenal strikers under Wenger. Unfortunately it needs someone to profit from it. Step forward Ramsey... Oh you cant stand? Well its unlikely to be Ozil. Both Giroud and Ozil are better at supporting someone else smashing the ball into the net.
You obviously haven't watched Arsenal much this season, Giroud apart from his purple match has been back to his last season form. Not making runs, spends most of the time tussling with defenders (usually losing out) and fluffing the chances he got. Should of got two goals today but yet AGAIN in a big game a chance falls his way and he misses. That is now City, Man Utd, Chelsea & Liverpool where he has had chances to win us or get us back into the game and he has missed, my own personal view that is why our results against the top teams haven't been that good.
Ozil was easily the best player on the pitch.
In all seriousness, you can't be happy with his contribution in the bigger games. I know it's his first season and he's still adapting to the Premier League but you can't be happy.Ozil was easily the best player on the pitch.

I haven't, and that's probably where I got the assumption he was making the runs, like when he darted across the near post. Saw him do that often near the beginning of the season when he was looking to be one of the top Prem strikers.
Finished watching the game two minutes ago as I'd recorded it. Özil finished the game decently but was completely anonymous for huge parts. Very mediocre performance, once again.
Ozil was easily the best player on the pitch.
It was, really. As I said, he came alive in the end, but he had a mediocre first half, and wasn't anything special until the last 20 minutes (when he started playing a lot with Santi Cazorla and did well). If you feel it was a good performance, my feeling would also be that you weren't watching the same match. If you think that performance was mediocre I think you were watching a different match mate.

The plan was (as v Chelsea) not to go gung-ho against a team who love to play on the counter. In both games if Giroud had taken his chances we'd have won.Ozil was always going to look ordinary in a game where he has no one running off the ball or between defenders for him to pick his spot (it's what he does best). I don't understand how Wenger set up the team yesterday with zero urgency to win the game.
I dont get why Wenger doesnt play Podolski. He is far more dynamic and explosive than Giroud. He can try play one or the other. He can try playing them together. But instead he insists on starting Giroud, who to be honest looks exhausted.
I thought Ozil was ok yesterday, did as well as anyone else on the pitch bar maybe Cazorla. Which is fine if you are not the clubs record signing and someone who is considered to be one of the best number 10s in the world. It doesnt help however that he has Giroud playing ahead of him...
True but you mustn't forget, this is only Mata's 4th game for United, Ozil has played with his new team mates for half a season.Same applies to Mata for you, who certainly wasn't the man of the match.
Amazing how many of the same people criticising Ozil are also defending Mata.

Aye.
Both had average or at the best above average games I thought. Mata was used poorly though in his defence.
See post above yours. Plus he's played hardly any football this season, full stop.
Ozil did actually play ok against United. A marked improvement on the woeful anonymity in some other big games this season. Perhaps all the criticism made him take his thumb out his arse?
Nominally wide but with the freedom to roam?
Exactly the same as Ozil then.
And this is why at United, Ozil, Kagawa, Mata even or any other attacking midfielder won't ever be as good as they are at any other club (at least under Moyes they won't). Attacking midfielders like them all need and benefit immensely from teams with short passes and off the ball movement. Ozil has been really harshly criticized, and only recently gone off the boil a little because Arsenal lost some form, but yesterday I thought he was one of your best players. Mata was always going to be a bit ineffective for us if we lined up like we did, even though he did still have a few good moments.Ozil was always going to look ordinary in a game where he has no one running off the ball or between defenders for him to pick his spot (it's what he does best). I don't understand how Wenger set up the team yesterday with zero urgency to win the game.
He wasn't 'spectacular' but in a game full of piss-poor to mediocre efforts he was comfortably the best outfield player on the park.Ozil was decent. Nothing spectacular, but both sides looked devoid of confidence and movement, which makes it hard for players like Ozil and Mata.
