Expected team:

--Solskjaer-------Scholes----------------
------------Giggs-----------------------
------------RVN------------------------

Is what we started with v.s Bolton anyway.

I prefer the team that ended that match + O'Shea at LB.

Why leave our best player  on the bench ;)

Jim Pakistan for Butty and O'Shea for Fortune would be mine. As much as I'd selfishly love to see Ronaldo start, that certainly wouldn't be wise at St. James' park, and though it's possible, I doubt Fergie would throw him into a huge match like this one.

I'd go with that. Djemba looks so much more in control, if you will, than Butt. We need to be in control against Newcastle definately. I would prefer if O'Shea started on one of the flanks, though I was impressed enough with Fortune to be confident with him. It's the right idea to start with Ronaldo on the bench. The same attack that took the Toon apart in April will do me, with little Ronnie as a secret (not so secret now!) weapon to unleash on tired defenders.

I just also really liked the way Djemba Squared drove forward with the ball. It was an impressive sight, for he is a very powerful player.

--------------------------Howard-----------------------------------

Phil----------------Rio-------------Silvestre--------------------O'Shea

--------------------Keane-----------Djemba Squared------------------

Ole------------------------Scholes------------------------------Giggs

----------------------------Ruud-------------------------------------

this sounds good to me - djemba over butt. nothing against butt, but what's the point in a possession midfielder if he gives the ball right back after he takes it away? i realize i'm exagerating, but i'm sure you get my meaning...

Looks good, but I have a feeling that SAF might want to take a good look at what Ronaldo is capable of before the transfer deadline, to see if he needs another foward player. So I'll go with this..

--------------------------Howard-----------------------------------

Phil----------------Rio-------------Silvestre--------------------O'Shea

--------------------Keane-----------Djemba / Butt------------------

 --------------------Scholes------------------------------Giggs

No disrespect to Ole intended, he has earned is place in the first 11, we just need to see how good Ronaldo is.

I thought only Scousers begged for beer money.

oshea as rb, fortune at lb.
no reason to play phill unless we really have to, he was the worst danger to our defense againts bolton :annoyed:

I don't know how people can continue to slate Phil (mostly not United supporters, I know). I have complete confidence in him as a fullback or defensive midfielder.

IMO, Gary really doesn't have much on him.

It seems to be a bit trendy lately to slag players like Butt and the Nevilles, though they haven't done much of anything to deserve it.

I too am completely confident in all of our squad players. How often have they let us down lately? maine road (where everyone was poor), and.... I can't remember another time recently!

We have to start with Cristiano on the right, it would be difficult to find a weaker left flank than the Barcodes defensively in the Premiership.

Bernard is useless and Robert is as likely to track back and Heskey to score.

...................................Howard....................................
..P Neville..........Ferdinand...........Silvestre..........O'Shea..
...................Djemba Djemba........Keane..........................
.......Ronaldo.................Scholes.....................Giggs........
............................Van Nistelrooy...................................

and we'll hit them for 6 again... hopefully we won't conceed a goal this time.

You might get more takers if you offer to do the buying.

I will buy the second drink - if they survive that long ;)

It appears that the choice of ref for the game has not gone down too well upt north........

Premiership:
You're not fit to referee us

It gives us no pleasure at all to bring you the news that Saturday's referee for the Manchester United game is scheduled to be our old pal (sigh..) Uriah Rennie.

On that basis, our number nine may as well stop at home and creosote his fence, as any offences on him will go unpunished and he'll probably end up with a booking for having his socks turned up to different lengths.

Not that we're paranoid or owt - we just don't like a bloke who has gone on the record in the past to voice his dislike of our Captain. Simple as that really.

Good as that sounds (kicking Shearer should be allowed) ;) I'm not happy at all with Rennie as a referee. He's useless to be honest.

See bolton for example. He gave away a stupid free kick (both ferdinand and silvestre were in front of the striker and he came and tried to tackle from behind). He almost gave a penalty with a dangerous tackle inside the box.

Phill is not that bad, he's just not good enough. Fortune did a better work than him on the left, therefore fortune as lb, oshea as rb.

Why doesn't SAF use O'Shea as the starter at RB with Gazza as cover at RB and CB? I believe O'Shea would be a better player at RB where he could use his right foot more often (although he'll be great wherever he plays). Then SAF can focus on finding a LB starter. Too bad United did not go for Chivu. Anyways...

On the subject of RB cover, what about Mills or Carr?

I don't think there's much problem finding fullbacks for the Newcastle match. O'Shea and Phil are both comfortable on either side, Fortune can play on the left, and Pakistan can play on the right ... I say play O'Shea on the right as Robert on Newcastle's left is the bigger threat than their right flank.

On the other hand, don't forget the trouble John gave them with his runs down the left last season.

No!! Not Rennie!! The most disliked ref in the Prem. Why would he be given such a big game - I have never heard a good word said about him.

He knows kung fu, from what I hear. Those are some pretty good words. ;)

Well said Busby. I thought Butty played pretty well against Bolton...he looks more robust than ever this season, and will have a big role to play - Phil will have a role too. Having said that, if the Djembas play a blinder, it would be well within our rights to pen a 'St Jim's Parkistan' ditty...
Anyone know the line up for last season's toon massacre?

It's a live broadcast in the States. 7AM EDT on FSW, so that should mean Sky Sports is televising the match.

Hell yes! Finally a United game that I can watch here in the States! Now only if FSW could be more consistent with showing United games...

I think FSW are starting off well with regard to showing United, the first 3 games of the season isn't bad. Last season they showed a lot of games too, including every match that was an early kick-off. All of their pre-season matches were on too so it definitely could be a lot worse.

If he didnt tackle and the striker went on to score, you be cursing phil for not tackling.

and the tackle on campo in the box is a well-timed one, he got the ball first, campo just falls too dramatically. If he didnt tackle Campo and he went on th score(he already in a dangerous position in the box), what would you say? Slagging phil off because he did a tackle in the box which got the ball and prevented further danger is ridiculous.

and regarding the formation, o'shea and butt most probably wun start, since O'shea played almost a full game against the aussies and butt picked up a knock against croatia. Guess the formation would be:

------------------------Howard--------------------------
Phil--------------Rio-------------Silvestre-----------Fortune
-----------------Keane-----------Djemba2(Klebie)----------
Ole--------------------Scholes---------------------Giggs/Ronaldo
-------------------------Ruud-----------------------------

Djemba2 should start the game, and Giggs too. Unless SAF judges that Giggs would be exhausted after the exertions in Belgrade, he might throw Ronaldo into the fray  , though very unlikely that will happen.

Subs bench:
Carroll
Gaz Nev/OShea
Klebie
Ronaldo
Forlan

Its not what I was saying. I'm just saying that seeing him play in our defense still scares me.

Bottom line: he's not good enough for united.

Behave, will you!

Not good enough for United!

Phil is a gem, a bloody diamond. He's been given that Right back position and he guards it like his life depended on it.

Through the pre-season friendlies he looked like he has been playing there for months. Slot Phil into midfield and ditto, he makes it his own. How long will it take to get people of his back?

Not good enough for United!

it's nothing againts phill himself. united want to be one of the best sides in the world. if they want to have a chance in the champions league, they need to haev some of the best players in the world. do you count phill as 1 of the 10,20 best right backs in the world? :nono:

all i said is that i think oshea is a better player than phill. fortune also looked better at left back than phill at right back in recent games. why choose phill ahead of them?

You can't have a squad full of world class players. Phil is one of the best utility men in the business. He can play any defensive or midfield position very well, and at short notice, and he is willing to sit on the bench for months until he is needed. Players like him are not glamourous, but success in various competitions over the season relies on a strong squad and Phil is one of the most loyal, dedicated, and versatile squad men you'll find anywhere.

agreed. but i still don't understand why choose him ahead of oshea.
