Neymar Jr | PSG | 2017/2018 performances

It's weird to hate such a brilliant player. As if we've never had a player dive or play act - Young and Herrera for instance.

How can one develop such an emotion for someone they've never met?

- Role of the media in the people's perception. Contrary to Messi who is boring from a journalistic standpoint, journalists like Neymar to get more 'controversies', stories, clicks and sales... And you know a 'A lie told often enough becomes truth'
- He irritates the opponents for obvious reasons
- The pleasure to complain, blame or try to find a 'hidden side'
- Sheep-like behaviour
- Jealousy

Last but not least, some have a superficial understanding of football and suffer from diverse cognitive biases

Lol you don't need a big diagram to explain why people don't like Neymar

Yeah, nothing to do with him being a cheating, whining cnut.

You're delusional if that's serious.

Funny thing is, people hate players who dive but don't care if someone goes into tackles like a mad man because the latter is probably seen as more "honest". Fouling players is against the rules just like diving. But diving players don't risk to injure their opponents.

Four years ago, Neymar was fouled so hard that he went out with a broken back, a career threatening injury and you can argue that this may have cost Brazil the WC. Everytime I see him play he glides through players effortlessly with amazing skills and gets kicked the shit out of him and people think that's fine because he's cocky. I totally understand why he does such things. It's his way of pay back. If the others don't play fair against him, why should he?

Love the guy. Hope he does well in the next games. Don't care if he dives.

Why do you 'love' him?

The state of this thread, some of you are miserable cnuts if you can't enjoy a player like him. The kid is coming back from an injury. People out here calling him a luxury player, please...you'd be well glad to have that luxury at this club. With him and Coutinho, Brazil is exciting to watch again even if they're going through a slow start like most of the teams in the world cup.

People prefer to watch Costa Rica or Iran, I prefer to watch Neymar and Brazil. Its whatever though.

Or it could be because he is a bellend.

Great player and I love watching him at full flow but he's whiny and annoying on the pitch.

some of those claiming he doesn't deliver in the big games or when it gets tough - just bizarre. There are few in the world as reliable in those circumstances as Neymar.

He's a cock though, and the egocentricity he has brought to his play this tournament will be Brazil's undoing.

People here acting as if he became available they wouldn't sell their left nut to get him for their team.

You know what's even funnier ? People like you who cannot conceive that some can hate Neymar for his diving and cheating attitude just as they can hate someone going into dangerous tackles with the intent to hurt others. You see, there can be several shades to this thing. I personally like watching Neymar when he's on song and truly focused on football without acting like a cnut because I think he's closest player we've got to a Ronaldinho in terms of taking the piss with his skills but I hate how he can be a little bitch on the pitch at times. Why does it have to be "either you like him or you are a hater ?" Narrow minded way of seeing football

Pathetic crybaby.

Shouldn't be this way but I think Coutinho is going to end up the better player. Neymar is too busy trying to look good and do tricks to stand out in a competitive league/game. Its almost holding Brazil back at this point. Coutinho's decision making is 1000x better and that's saying something considering his penchant for pot shots at Liverpool.

The type of player you hate to play with. Slowing the play at every possible moment. He is one of those players that makes you stop coming to those five a side games with your mates.

He'd tear up the Premier League, but he is detestable in terms of his antics.

Not like this he wouldnt. I lost count of the chances he wasted because he refused to pass or wanted to do one more stepover. The talent is there but he'd need to really check his ego if he went to play in a proper league again.

He's still returning from injury, but we saw him terrorize La Liga.

He'd do the same to the Prem.

I don’t dislike him, but I hate that he doesn’t try as hard as he should (to be more serious and score more goals, be effective). If he had half the passion as Ronaldo in terms of learning and developing, he would be one of the all-time greats for sure. As of right now, he will only be mentioned in the top 50. Score three goals and do that heel-flick, don’t do it needlessly before scoring. And he’s a diving little drama-queen, how many times did he roll in th first half? Six?

Exactly. It's crazy how much of an incredible player he could be if he adjusted his attitude

Not worthy of Brasil82 but also not any worse than any primadonna of the current generation. I blame Messi and Cristiano

I always felt he was overrated but he has been truly underwhelming in this World Cup.

He had a lot of chances today but managed to cock them up.

Also don’t like the way he holds his face every time he goes down and then he’s miraculously back up in seconds - although that seems to be every player at this World Cup!

He plays like the young Ronaldo before 2006/07, talented yet frustrating and trying to overdo it with the tricks and taking on players.

Good analogy. The only difference for me is that in 2006 Ronaldo was 21, while Neymar is 26. As a player approaching his prime years, he really ought to have improved his decision-making and focused on refining his game (he's come a long way, to be fair, since he first joined Barca). I still think Neymar is a terrific player on his day, but he's miles behind where Ronaldo and Messi were at his age in terms of the mental side of the game (I only make the comparison because so many people say he's next in line when those two retire, and I'm not convinced at this point it'll be him that steps up).

What does he gain by such behavior? I'm not even looking at this from a 'moral' angle. I mean, wouldn't it be better for his performances and his team that he just gets on with it and to start playing more functionally?

He glides with the ball and is one of the best technically around, it's just watching him in a match he reminds me of a 19 year old Ronaldo. Too much rolling around, fannying about on the ball. I honestly feel like if he wanted to be more efficient, he could easily challenge Messi/Ronaldo for the Ballon D'or, but right now he's too much of a fairweather player.

His ego is consuming his talent. Always wanna be the center of attention, albeit not the kind of attention you would normally want.

He's more entertaining than Robinho and obviously a better footballer, but still I don't trust him when the chips are down. Sure he has glimpses here and there but still his ego is holding him back to reach Ronaldo/Messi levels..

26 now, yet seems less mature than 2 years before. If he would've stayed at Barca he'd be more disciplined.
