Neymar Jr | PSG | 2017/2018 performances

For whatever reason, his decision making continues to let him down.

He seemed to have grasped it during the end of 2015 when Messi was out and Neymar was the best player in the world for 1-2 months, but it reverted back.

I honestly have never really seen what all the fuss is about with Neymar.

Yeah what is the fuss with Neymar.

Will be Brazil's record goalscorer when he retires.

Played a key part in Barcelona's treble and league + copa double the following season.

Formed the most devastating attacking trio potentially ever.

The best dribbler in world football currently.

Most fouled player in Europe past few seasons.

He's no Harry Kane for sure.

You should know better by now that making sense doesn’t apply to the average futbol fans. Futbol fans logic flip flop opinions on a game to game basis. Shit one game and goat the next.

He's just full of himself, isn't he? He expect the opponent to just watch him play from distance and expect his team mates to just give him the ball. Incredibly talented but the wrong attitude in football.

Imagine he had Ronaldo's mentality? Possible the a candidate for GOAT. But instead, he'll just be a ''what could've been''.

I don't get this post.

He's no Ronaldo, but he's still had a fantastic career.

Some in here are talking as if he's had a busted career.

Indeed he a great player but he has it in his locker to go that extra level and potentially be one of the greatest. However, I don't feel he has the mentality to go up that level.

He's a world class player, but he wasn't very good today. Had a couple nice take-ons and some free kicks into dangerous areas, but he didn't really affect the game at all. So far at this WC, organized units are outplaying individual stars (Ronaldo's 3 goal performance against Spain aside). It'll be fun to see how each big star progresses as legs start to tire from accumulated fatigue and such.

He’s just coming back from an injury and probably only 50% match fit. He’s not a machine.

People talking about he's just coming back from injury, and whilst that's true, it still doesn't excuse him from keeping on to the ball too long and having poor decision making. That's something that, as a footballer, regardless of how long you're out for, shouldn't effect you.

Neymar tried to impress too much today and he failed.

The kneejerk on this forum is incredible. How good a player is changes on a game by game basis. The kid had a broken foot and didn't play for months and his first game back is a World Cup game against a good Swiss team. He didn't have as much training with his teammates, needs some time to get back into the groove too.

Hardly surprising he wasn't at his best.

Fitness wasn't the issue. His selfishness was. More interested in trying to show off and beat players on his own than actually help his team win. Could argue he was trying too hard but even so, it still comes down to a mentality problem. Fantastic talent, but seems to suffer from Gerrard syndrome. On another night he scores or sets up the winner and everyone shuts up, but he leaves himself open to getting stick when that doesn't happen.

He's also a very easy player to dislike, which is probably why he gets stick so easily. Dives, cheats, pretends to be injured, screws his club sides around to massage his ego. Caught trying to cheat the taxman with dodgy transfer dealings. Stupid hair. He doesn't exactly help himself.

You two realise that when other people read sarcasm like this it just makes you look twattish rather than funny, right? I doubt anyone here doesn't accept he's avery talented player. He's supposed to be the next best after Ronaldo and Messi and was supposedly going to "move out of their shadow" by leaving Barcelona. I agree with the sentiment of just not getting it. He's never quite delivered to that level for me.

As frustrating he must be to play with at times and particularly tonight, any extended time out does affect your decision-making. It takes a while to get the rhythm back, to make those decisions under match pressure and compounded by reduced fitness. I can see how Neymar reverts to type in that situation where his natural instincts are to hang onto the ball too long.

There is some crazy things going on here lately. Neymar is overrated, if given a choice people would rather sign Willian over Ronaldo or Bale and Evra is a misogynist apparently.

It wasn't intended to be funny.

He is very easy to dislike. No disagreement there.

And what level hasn't he delivered?

Pretty much. Wouldn't be surprised to see Glaston come out any time with his Kane's a better player than Neymar shtick.

All the top players are struggling this World Cup, even Kane tomorrow.. watch.

Only Ronaldo is performing. He needs drug-testing as if every other top player is tired/fatigued and he's as fresh as a daisy.. whats up with that!? I'm joking of course, but every top player bar Ronaldo is struggling even Messi.

Very, very individualistic. Sometimes, it's just easier to release the ball and move into space, but no, he hangs on to it for too long. Performance reminded me of Denilson today.

It was a poor performance today but its too early to judge him imo. Spain lost their opening match in 2010 after all. Argentina and Germany also looked poor so overall it wasn't a great first matchday for any of the favorites.

Poor performance but some very knee-jerk reactions here. He's still the best of the rest after the two GOATs and I think he will show it during the latter stages of this tournament.

I'd rather have Coutinho in my team than Neymar.

Neymar probably got a few Youtube videos worth of highlights from last night's game to make himself look good but he did the square root of feck all.

What did you expect from a footballer who played his 1st official game since February?

Clearly a poor game and his worst game of the season.

I would even say I don't recognize the player I am used to watch all the season :(

He's just an embarassment rolling over in agony every time someone touches him. Certainly doesn't help the momentum of the team stopping up play. He must get that out of his game pronto. Pathetic to watch. Should be red carded!

The ball hogging was ridiculous. The mark of a player who has stopped taking tactical direction.

Probably just recovering. There's an argument to be made if Neymar is most entertaining footballer at his peak nowadays.
Yep. His got so much imagination in his game. Needs to know when to release it though. Some of it yesterday was just plain posturing

Why bring Kane into it? I have watched Neymar many times and he is clearly very talented but I honestly do not think he is as good as the hype around him. This is not based on one performance. Just my opinion so no need to get your knickers in a twist about it.

He'll come good - it was a very poor performance but you can see how influential he is and how much Brazil relies on him, and with a bit more luck he still could've scored and/or assisted once or twice against a very well organized team. Might need the group games to get in his rythm but I'm guessing he'll be great to watch in the knock-out games. Costa Rica are quite poor as well so he'll bounce back stronger next game imo.

Needs to sort out his hair though.

Congrats to those who consider him as a Youtube player like Ben Arfa.

I think there are not more over-hyped players than those of Tottenham :p

Can I not give an option on a player without people taking a dig at Spurs in response?
