He's a bit stupid to move a year before the World Cup IMO. It'll probably take him a bit of time to settle as he is just a young kid moving to one of the biggest clubs in the world. Taking this into account, he could struggle a bit and it could really dent his confidence just before the World Cup.

As for Barcelona, I think they really do need him. We all saw how ineffective they were without Messi, so another forward is key. At the same time, they still need to improve defensively and sort out the goalkeeping department. Amazing to think that such a dominant team needs quite a bit of work.

If he's good enough to become the most important player in Brazil's world cup squad he'll survive the move and probably learns a lot which will help him at the world cup. If he's not good enough, Brazil is in trouble anyway, imo. Confidence isn't enough to win a tournament, playing against the best teams in the world and fighting through the struggle might be crucial though. I think he should have moved last year, but moving this summer is a better choice than staying.

That's a good point and to be fair I think he will be a top player. However, one season is quite short. As for staying this year, I don't watch South American football but maybe someone who does can shed some light on the difference in quality between Brazil and Europe.

It's not only the confidence but also the fact that Neymar is a bit of an enigma ATM. No one is quite sure how good he actually is and many in Brazil are pinning their hopes on him. A bad season (which is very possible IMO) will damage Brazil's chances immensely I feel.

It's funny how bitter fans can be but I agree corruption is rampant in the game. Pre-contract with a downpayment was already in the books for both Santos & Barcelona, the legality of which was there for scrutiny. Try again.

Fair enough I guess then.

By the way, not bitter in any way. Didn't want Neymar in Madrid. It should be a priority for Madrid IMO...and it was enough with robinho. Maybe it will turn out really well for you though.

I think it's the other way round. I think he has to move now to be in any way prepared for the challenge of the World Cup. He should have moved last year like Oscar and Lucas.

Sorry if that ruffles your feathers but it is what it is, which as I pointed out before is still steep for a player in the last year of his contract. The same price for RVP

RM tried to scupper the deal by instead negotiating with his sponsors, D.I.S., by offering up to 10 million more who ended up pressuring all parties to accept the higher deal - legally they were not actually able to negotiate this way. Rosell complained to UEFA & FIFA that RM were harassing the deal with an end around - supposedly both Platini & Valcke intervened.

The circus comes to town

It doesn't bother me but I think you're wrong, Santos would be getting around €15m if the overall fee was €25m and it's way too low. Why would it bother me though? Why would I have any interest in Barcelona paying more for a player?

I hope he might make them a bit more direct and therefore for me, more interesting to watch.

Barca and their transfer policy lately is ridiculous.

Marca said the price is around 50 million Euros, for a player in last year of his contract. :nervous:

Last year of a contract doesn't mean a great deal when there is a respect between club and player like there is Neymar and Santos. There was no way he would run it down and move for free.

This summer was either sell time or extension time and he decided it was time to leave so Santos got their full pay.

Also, he was part owned so while his contract was with Santos, his price was still dictated by both ownerships.

Holy feck, next year will be rather interesting to say the least. Real will now surely be more desperate than ever to keep Ronaldo there.

Real will keep Ronaldo anyway but I'm curious about who they'll bring in during the inevitable rebuilding of an already great side. I can easily see Real spending €100m+ this Summer and I think Barca will also add 1-2 big signings to Neymar. If they don't sign a defender they'll be pretty fecked anyway so they'll most likely turn their attention to that position now.

Ffs will i be able to buy anyone on next years FM.

Is it sad that this was one of the first things that came to my mind too? Haha: Neymar Gotze confirmed to clubs, Falcao Cavani Lewandowski may move, it's gonna be a dry summer :(

I personally think this is a fantastic signing for Barca. Not because he is guaranteed to be one of the bst in the world, but this move could make him one of the best. Many are saying he will flop : How do you know this for sure? Either he follows the likes of Ronaldinho and Ronaldo, or he follows the paths Adriano and Robinho took. We will have to wait for about 4 years until we can truly say where he will be. Barca will be stronger in attack though through this, he's an upgrade to the likes of Pedro and Sanchez.

No one is saying he will flop, however given the huge step up and the current centrepiece of their system, it's not beyond the realms of possibility that Neymar could find himself playing second fiddle in a team which doesn't suit him. But with hard work and some tweaks he and Barcelona can be formidable. It just depends if Messi getting 60 goals is seen as a task of importance which it was last year in regards to the record breaking.

Yeah, I know all that, but it's simply too much for unproven player from Barca's point of view. IMO good CB would improve them much more than Neymar.

Watch him flop.

There are others, but I can't be bothered to find them. Too much judgement is spent on his National performances, and I bet a lot of it is made on the England friendly etc. Plus since he's been storming the Brazilian league then that doesn't mean much. Reserve flop judgement for a couple of years then we can make predicaments.

So how are Barca likely to line up now then?

And surely this confirms that David Villa will be moved on somewhere?

Yeah, I know all that, but it's simply too much for unproven player from Barca's point of view. IMO good CB would improve them much more than Neymar.

I don't think the 2 are mutually exclusive tbh.

Barcelona have become overly reliant on Messi in an attacking sense this year imo. They needed another attacking player, not just because of this but also because Villa looks like he'll be moved on, Alexis Sanchez doesn't seem to have done as well as needed and Pedro hasn't built on his excellent 1st season, from what I've seen anyway.

I'm sure they'll still buy one or two defenders as well.

Looks likely that he'll be coming to the Premier League - either Arsenal or Spurs.

He'd be an excellent signing for either of those two teams.

So he's gone Barca? Good.. He needed to leave Brazil and develop. With him and Lucas in Europe that gives them a better chance for next years world cup.

I agree the needed for face that higher quality of opponent even Oscar most of their best players are in Europe now he was the only one left if your counting Damiao. I want to see how good he really is Barca can be sink or swim for forward players. Tends to be the former more often. He will have to adjust and so will Barca.

We'll see if they'll spend too much on CB now when they bought Neymar, but from what I have read, they don't have too much money to spend without selling any of their players, so it will be interesting to see what will happen.

Their annual transfer budget is €50 million . They'll have at least another €30 million from sales. Money won't be a limiting factor which helps when Rosell & Zubi have yet to overpay in the transfer market

He's got some fantastic skills and control, will be exciting to see if he can take the next step. I might actually tune in on a couple of Barcelona matches next year.

Same as Uniteds then which deserves to be mentioned as a props to how well run Barca is then.

Not sure I would say Barca are particularly well run given their debt is more than United's and they haven't been subjected to a takeover to warrant it.

Anyway the money for Neymar is ridiculous. Massively overpaying at 50-60m for a player in their last year who is unproven outside of Brazil.

That said I think he will be a success.

It's a huge amount of money but he seems to be the real deal, he destroyed Scotland at the at the Emirates last year and based on that live game + the other games I've seen him play for Brazil he looks great.

I imagine he'll be used like Alexis Sanchez has been, albeit he's a step-up in quality, a pure end-product player starting from the left who isn't expected to hugely change their games in order to fit into the 'system'

John Carew has destroyed us in the past. Neymar is a risk. Some of his goals he scores, the defending is a piss take.

We'll soon see how good he really is, im looking forward to seeing what he does at Barcelona. If he's half as good as the hype that comes with him then the €50m wont be an issue at all, infact he's going to be the face of next summers world cup, I bet they make a feck load off his name from South America.

Oh yeah definitely a risk but I think one that will pay off. I've seen goals he's scored in Brazil but some of the opposition he faces there is pathetic, which is why I'm judging him based on what I've seen him do for the national team.
