North Korea

Ffs stop gloating about the Nobel, this could be serious.

It could well be and it’s probably a bit childish and short sighted to be mocking it but my gut feeling is that the North Koreans are cutting a deal with China and South Korea and will achieve peace that way while excluding the hostile and immature Americans.

Imagine Trump instead of Kennedy during the Cuban missile crisis. "My dearest comrade Hruschov, if you happen to change your mind we will have to recall the 500 MISSILES l just launched towards your country, but have in mind that they are VERY expensive. So in that case I think it's fair that we share some of the costs".

I read somewhere that SK isn't a party to the armistice - it was signed between NK, China, and the US.

This was Trump's only option because otherwise he was going to walk out of that June 12 summit with a whole lot of expectation and nothing to show for it. It was obvious from the chatter in the last week that he was finally realizing he'd agreed to a public meeting that wasn't going to give him anything he could sell as a "win" so better to take the chance now to sell it as his special brand of negotiating. Hopefully the media hold them accountable for their poor diplomacy and tactics.

We were informed that the meeting was requested by North Korea, but that to us is totally irrelevant.

Speaking of irrelevant... what's the point of this sentence?

Also, why does he switch from "we" to "I" half-way through the letter? Did he forget what he was doing?

The republicans will waste a lot of space rationalizing this one, while the real reason why it was cancelled will be clear to the 6.9 billion people who don't watch fox news (Trump wouldn't have achieved anything). The people stupid enough to vote for Trump in the first place will suck up the republican propaganda without a doubt.

From Nobel Peace Prize to threats of war in a few weeks. Trump now talking up the military again saying they are ready.

What's going on with that signature. It's all over the place. Don't want to play the "if Obama did that.." card, but they'd be absolutely livid if his signature covered any part of "United States of America" in a letter. One of hundreds of the double standards that will be well into the thousands by the time he leaves.

Well, there's no doubt that Trump wrote that letter (or transcribed it for some lackey to type up verbatim).

that's one of the first things I thought when I saw the letter

He's probably trying to copy his cardiogragh readout.

Is it common for the president to write these letters? I always assumed there would be a team who would do that and the president just signs off on it(maybe after glancing through it first).

Do you honestly think that Donald Trump wouldn't add his own changes to a drafted letter that's sent in his name? Just imagine what the original unedited letter looked like!

Oh his ego sure plays a big part. Was just wondering if this was the norm. The staff are in a no win situation too. I mean, even if they somehow manage to switch it and get him to sign the original draft undetected, he would probably notice that it did not end up embarrassing the US and go batshit crazy.

The reality is Trump created unrealistic expectations even before negotiations started.
I can't remember a summit where two leaders meet before a single round of talks. They usually meet when everything is dusted.
Furthermore, it seems like Kim blew him off. Looks embarrassing to be honest.

That sounds something like a drunken feck would write to his ex.

It blows my mind that something as big as running and being the face of the United States can be done in such an amateur way.

Sounds like something he dictated while someone wrote down. I'd bet he was questioned on the wording but he told them to send it.
