I don't mind doing characters but I don't think it would be great to have characters from all media. Maybe just Tv and film characters.

I don't like such restriction. With different mediums we might get some interesting entries.

Million choices from novels, mythology, movies, tv, even songs...

To be fair I think we could do them in 2 separate countdowns...no rush - lets get historical figures out of the way first.

I am okay with books or mythological stories actually, just wasn't that excited by including games.

And songs? Like how? Emily from See Emily Play and the likes?

Did I miss one or is there really not a single Hitchcock film in this top 50 here? And the best Kubrick was Dr. Strangelove in 27?

Yep no Hitchcock...

Also, think of all the concept albums...there are possibilities, no need to make it dull and limit it to "movies and tv".

Am I right in saying that only one pre1960 movie, Casablanca, made it into the top 50? That's kind of shocking!

It was said that Hollywood conferred permanent immortality on its big stars. That didn't work out well.

12 Angry Men also made it...that was in the top 15 I think, placed at 13!

@Duffy can you post the entire list, each film with its points tally?

Great thread and list some gem on there that I need to rewatch and some new ones I havent. Although there really should have been far more animated films on there.

What about a top 50 just for animated film?

Agree with Cina. Wiseau is writing a letter of outrage as we speak.

"Haha what a story RedCafe haha... Anyway, how's your sex life?"

Why the hell didn't it top my list?!

Can we have the top 50 list in one post (just list of titles) Duffy?

In any case thanks for organizing, compiling and doing the results, it was entertaining. TDKR was a nice touch! :D

Aye. Our last list is much much better and even then some cried about Forrest Gump making the top 100

That was a great exercise BTW, we gave people 6 months or so to watch movies and come up with a list. I myself did a Hitchcock marathon during the same time. I am gonna organize it again

That's great.

Wait.. historical figures? But characters won the poll?

Typical Chelsea dictator bastard.

How is Gladiator a bad movie? I didn't put it in my top 20 but I struggle to see what's wrong with it.

Also Damien Duffer, can we have the top 50 list of films?

Yeah...We'll have to watch a few films first though. A few cinephiles on here, I reckon we'll have a decent list. Duffer/Duffy could be the MC again... And where's Mehro?
He is too busy with a thing called life these days

Acting, the script and the historical aspect are awful, really. The fighting scenes are good though.

It isn't an atrocious film, but simply not a good one and it shouldn't be anywhere near consideration for that list. And when it is compared with the likes of the Godfather and usual suspects, never mind the genre...

Ok I'll be blunt. This list is utter wank and a victory for fandom/ cults. Couple of observations :

1. Especially peeved that there were no movies around top 25 with strong female leads. I mean Jodie Foster in The Accused, Meryl Streep in Sophie's Choice, Adele Exarchopoulos in Blue is the warmest Color.. There have been some monumental female performances but none make the cut. Same with DDL as Daniel Plainview, Pacino in Scent of a Woman/ Dog Day Afternoon, Gregory Peck in To Kill a Mockingbird, Dustin Hofmann Midnight Cowboy.

2. Very few non-English movies. No AKira Kurosawa, Segio Leone, Federico Fellini, Luis Banuel, Igmar Bergman. What's up with that ? But freaking Gladiator - the most ovrrated Ben Hur-esque movie of our times makes its way to the top.. Goodfellas in Top 5 over Taxi Driver.. FFF..

Very disappoint..

I am very disappointed when I read weak comments on football on this forum. In terms of taste in film, hey, you can't expect much from people who are not necessarily interested in film very much.

Obviously the list is quite rubbish. No "Lawrence of Arabia" -was it only myself who mentioned/voted that film? - No David Lean films in general if I am not mistaken. What's more, there is no Hitchcock either. What about Kubrick? I think only "2001" made it (largely thanks to me putting it at number 1 of my list) So, this list is virtually devoid of David Lean, Alfred Hitchcock and Stanley Kubrick. One needs to stop arguing here I think. Tarantino and Nolan are good (well, Quentin is a bit overrated imo) but people clearly have little knowledge of the true greats of American cinema. Oh, and no Sergio Leone either. One of the redeeming features of this list though, it has to be said, is the inclusion of at least a couple of Coen movies. To my shame, I did not include them in my list, in favour of a couple of idiosyncratic choices.

I am also a huge fan of "Blue is the Warmest Colour" myself. Both female leads are awesome in that film. Lea Seydoux :drool::drool:
