Our Rivals Squad next year - Arsenal

Shite is harsh, scored a decent amount of goals for a poor Swansea last season in his first year in the league. He's not better than Giroud though and isn't all that special.
He's easily better than Giroud. 25 goals for Swansea he nailed last season. He'd repeat that in a top team and Giroud can only dream of that number. He is incredibly powerful in the air .. I don't know which striker scored the most headed goals last season but he has to be very close.
And no, I don't think we will be signing him, more's the pity because he would add variety and aerial prowess to our attack.

Alright, we'll agree to disagree buddy, would debate further but this is the Arsenal thread and I'm sure some of the Arsenal fans are getting a bit bored of seeing their thread clogged up by Wilfried Bony when there's no chance they will sign him.

Yeah Oli couldn't even imagine scoring 3 more goals.

I did find it funny how Bony was apparently going to score an amount Giroud could never dream of when last season they had the same amount of goals in the league, with Giroud throwing in 8 assists as well.

You could say Giroud is playing for a better side and isn't new in the league, but still.

Bony wouldn't fit into Arsenal's style of play.

Admittedly Giroud isn't the most mobile but he actually works hard. Bony is the laziest player I've ever seen.

Baffles me how he managed 25 goals last year because if you watch him he's awful at everything but he knows where the goal is.

Exactly. Most people on the Caf don't watch Giroud play regularly and probably judge him based on a few poor performances against the top 3 sides. He does score quite a lot, assist a lot and does stuff that stats will never show.
Few other centre forwards do as much defensive work as him. Just take a look at him during corners, he almost always does his marking well. Also his link up play may not land him on the stats chart but it's very effective.
Giroud has his limitations but he's a great team player which for me is very important at big clubs. I don't think the likes of Ba, Bony or Remy will ever be that.

Am I missing something (or someone)
Do they seriously only have six defenders in their first team squad
And that includes Monreal who has been pants since he signed.
Unless they have some good kids coming through, some signings to unveil or I have missed someone I can see that lack of depth being a major problem for them

You are virtually begging for an Arsenal fan to have a quip at the state of our defense with only 5 senior (bit generous that with that term) defenders with 3 of them being injured right now...

Bellerin's the back up right back, looks great going forward and apparently beat Theo's speed record at the club (I'm struggling to believe that one but a few of the players have come out with it!). We desperately need a 4th CB, will be fine numbers wise when that happens.

Bellerin looks like a very exciting prospect. I really hope he gets some game-time this season (but not through necessity!).

Really surprised that a Spurs fan would not know his own player's stats. Bony scored 22 in the PL and Giroud 16. If you include Bony's two WC appearances (vs. Colombia and Greece, he scored in both) then that was 27 goals last season.

List of all Europe's top scorers last season, note Bony at #19 and Giroud at #49 :

Here's Giroud's record last season (22 goals not 25) :

TBH I do really like Giroud's link-up play and his defensive contributions.

Here's a direct OPTA comparison. Giroud vs Bony. It clearly shows each players strengths and weaknesses.

What are you on about our own player? Neither Bony nor Giroud is a Tottenham player.

Also, no he didn't score 22 goals in the Premier League. If he had he'd be 2nd top scorer. I don't know about all competitions, but last season in the Premier League, Bony had 16 goals.

This Bony chat stuff is really unnecessary. So many posts later and he will still not be coming, nor has anyone ever mentioned him coming to Arsenal.

As it stands, Arsenal are quite well off attacking wise anyway.

Oops. Deep apologies for the insult - have no idea why I said you were an Arse fan, I know exactly who you support !

I'm clearly getting different stats from different sources (or misinterpreting them) ! Yes you are correct, I checked the PL official site, 16 apiece.

If we are to believe any of the rumours then Arsenal have looked at (are looking at) ; Remy and Cavani (latest I saw mentioned yesterday). Could be idle speculation or it could be Wenger looking for one of the final pieces to a very strong squad.

Bony's shite, feck off with that shit.
wonder what that makes giroud then... giroud had 16 prem goals in 3067 mins while bony had 17 in 2470 mins. Lets also not forget that it took bony till halfway through the season to adjust to the league. He had 13 goals and 4 assists in his last 18 games of the season , that's a level of productivity that giroud simply hasn't looked like attaining since coming to the league. Also playing in an inferior side.

do you know how many goals that hard working giroud had vs the top 4 teams? 0, he couldn't even manage one measly tap in. stretch it to top 7 then he had 1 goal which was against spurs. Bony? he had 5 vs top 4 teams and 8 vs the top 7.

Yeah Michu and Cisse and Jelavic and Ba all say hi.

Also Bony had 16 goals in the league, same as Giroud.

What do you make of Darren Bent? Gutted United didn't sign him in 2010 after his 24 goals in the league that season?

Watch Bony play, his all round game is atrocious. He'll never be a success at a club in the top 5.

Bony isn't a better all round footballer than Giroud. You're allowing the stats to could your judgment.

Girouds all round game is hardly sensational. A nice touch here and there and that's pretty much it. he cant score from range, is borderline useless in the air despite his size and cant get anything going against any big sides. He's just a big lad who gets a tap in here and there with decent touches. Girouds passing % is 69 while bony's is 74. There's pretty much close to no stat that's in girouds favour between the two yet im led to believe that the Frenchman is better. While its true that football isn't played on paper but the evidence on the pitch isn't much different imo.

so you think bony's is a one season wonder? I think you're terribly wrong. Those players are pure goal scorers and their games get figured out very easily. There's nothing any defender can do to possibly stop bony cause he's the strongest player in the league. What adjustments are they gonna realistically make?

Bents all round play was no where near what bony offers, no where near.

I don't think any manager in the Premier League would replace Giroud with Bony or buy Bony when they have Giroud.

Woefully short in defence. At this rate, Arteta will be playing there soon.

Mertesacker not yet ready, Koscielny has a niggling Achilles, Gibbs has done his hamstring again. That's three of six defenders unfit already. Wonder why we didn't sign another defender since we have done nearly all of our business early.

We've got seven defenders (assume you've ignored Bellerin), plus Manalos* apparently on his way. The only worry I've got there is left back, Gibbs' injury record is a joke, and Monreal only plays well when we can dominate possession.

Bellerin, although very talented, is a reserve for me. We shouldn't be playing him in the CL qualifier due to lack of options. A few COC games and maybe half a season's loan should do him a world of good. Him, Hayden and Miquel aren't exactly great options considering that we want to be challenging for the title.

Don't mean to sound pessimistic, but I wish we hadn't been in this situation.

I don't see Cavani as the type of player he'd unload big money for.

I hope Wenger has this CB and DM brought in real quick. Can we bring Jenkinson back?
