Our Rivals Squad next year - Arsenal

Why can't they sign anyone?

I mean, they're not an unattractive club. decent location, nice stadium, big fanbase, good wages, bit of history. Admittedly on all of those points they can be outcompeted by other teams, but still, surely they can compete?

Willing.

Just when I was thinking they could be dragged into a race for fourth we give them Welbeck.

Cheers! Revenge for RvP and Silvestre.

It's not revenge because you had no choice but to give us RVP.

It seems Woodward / LvG has just voluntarily given you Welbeck, it's not like Welbeck could force us to sell.

Welcome to Arsenal, Danny!

We were desperate so thanks Mancs. Whether it works out is another thing though. As risky as a 28 year-old coming back from a major knee injury though?

@DWelbz19

I think he'll definitely improve us in the short term (hopefully he'll 'do a Sturridge' in the long run), and a Sanchez-Welbs-Walcott front three with Ozil behind sounds fun...

But I just had higher hopes for the window. We've improved, but not enough to take us close to City or Chelsea. 3rd is the highest we'll finish and 4th the lowest.

I think Welbeck will be absolutely brilliant at Arsenal. Being given the chance to have a proper sustained run as the number one main striker? He'll be fantastic. He's only 23, he's going to be a world class player soon.

What are we doing selling him to that lot?

Welcome to Danny Welbeck. Hope he does well here. Haven't seen him play at all, so I'm going to trust Arsene on this one.

We are still lacking in defence so I am surprised we didn't bring in anyone there. Maybe Wenger is banking on a January loan?

Pretty average window for them really.

Not a disaster but still, could have been a lot better. If they signed that top striker and midfielder they would be clear title contenders, they didn't so it's a scrap for 4th again I think.

Lot of tears in the other thread. A hearty breakfast!

Wonder how the Arsenal fans in an Arsenal forum are taking to Wenger missing out on Falcao and getting Welbeck instead. Weren't the Wenger out brigade in full force earlier today. Intrigued as to what the mood in the general gooner fanbase is with this signing.

Not sure I agree. Giroud is a brilliant player when you guys want to dominate matches and find the wingers in tight areas as his link up play is great and his work rate is good too. But Welbeck offers a complete different thing with his pace on the counter-attack and with Sanchez-Welbeck-Walcott up front with Ozil behind you are really best set up for counter-attacks.

That is where all those four players thrives the most and I think it has been a bit of an Arsenal issue the last decade to score some easy goals as well.

So I agree that when you play lower/mid table clubs Welbeck won't be a huge improvement at all but against the top clubs I think he certainly is.

I think Arsenal has the scariest counter-attacking set up in the league right now with Chelsea, way ahead of United/Liverpool. The only issue will be winning the ball back which will require Sanchez/Walcott and Welbeck to work their asses off to cover for a not too great defensively Ozil.

Better than Lukaku for half the money, better than Balotelli with a full complement of sandwiches.

Christ Welbeck is going to fit this Arsenal team like a glove. Can't even hate him for it either, he's a great lad. Arsenal have got such a decent core of young, British players. A spine of Chambers, Ramsey and Welbeck for the next decade is enviable.

Here's hoping Welbeck will finally get to play in his best role and start getting the recognition he deserves as a world class prospect.

When you look at this (below) and realise United's squad now cost over €520m with the addition of Di Maria & Blind, and that both United & rival fans believe multiple changes in personnel are still required and that both Carrick and RvP will be at the end of their useful careers within 2 years, then it's difficult not to think United have blown a lot.

Free transfers and players coming up from the reserve/youth are obviously excluded from these lists.

Most of our significant spending has been done post-inflation. Add on at least another 100m for City if they had to buy those players like Aguero, Silva, Nasri and Dzeko in today's market. They also conveniently have left out a shit load of players that they don't have anymore, like Robinho as an example. yes, players like him aren't in the squad anymore..but they went through a fair few signings like that to come up with what they have now. Same with Chelsea. There's no comparison to our situation

Arsenal is the only team there that I will stand up and clap for.

These charts are always useless because they fail to take things like that into account.

Actually no. Make all the excuses you like but the chart shows what the chart shows ....... the actual cost of your CURRENT squad. There's no evading that no matter how you try to spin it.
