Paul Pogba

I've never really understood the rumors with regards to Juventus signing Pogba. Surely we would use the clause to extend the contract by a year if he refuses to extend it with us to force Juventus to pay up rather than letting him sign for Juventus for a nominal compensation.

I said about this earlier in the thread.

1. It's unclear whether we can actually activate the clause. It seems we put it in every contract but being a contract signed when he was 16 it might not be legal to activate it.

2. What message would that send out to potential young signings. The whole Ronaldo slavery thing was laughable but this isn't far off it if we did that. Activating a year clause so he could rot in our reserves? Classy. Certainly not the United way.

Regarding Juve though his agent, Raiola, does seem to have strong links there and has done business recently so it's possible that he has been using them all along as a way of pumping up this contract and they have kept quiet (not denied it) for him. I haven't seen Juve actually come out and say they are trying to sign him anyway, I might be wrong.

If he made it clear that he wanted to go I don't think we would activate it. Only reason we would is if we wanted to sell him for more money. I.e. with Berba I could see his contract being extended and then we sell him. Seems a bit stupid but that's the problem with letting players get to the last few months of their contracts. These extensions only make sense for me for older players.

When he came on, he was getting cheered every time he touched the ball. Think I heard a "Fergie Sign Him Up" chant as well.

I will be very, very surprised if he doesn't sign a new contract with us in a very near future.

Looked like our players are angry at him or something, he had 10 touches in 20 minutes.

His postioning at times was a little off, but otherwise I thought he did well.

Yep, no way Fergie would have even had him in the squad if he was off. You could tell once we scored the second that he was desperate to get Pogba on.

That was a great gesture for him. It should reassure him that he's not as far away from the first team as he might think and he could have a very profitable future here (in every sense of the word).

I also love the way the fans were cheering his every touch of the ball.

Whats his passing stats like for todays match? He isnt afraid of passing short or long distance and isnt afraid of doing anything on the pitch. he is a class act on the pitch and a natural.

Could sign a four year contract according to Stan Colymoore.

I dont think he has any inside information, rather saying 'if hes in the team he must be about to sign a new four year contract'. You could have replaced the "four" with any number really

Still its good signs that he was in the squad and got a run out. But untill he signs a new contract its all up there at the moment, footballers are people after all and some are impulsive. He could be kissing the badge one minute signing somewhere else the next, so IMO theres no point looking for hiden meanings or tweets to try and get inside his head because at any point we are just guessing

I said before the game that if we were 3 or 4 up he'd give him a game and send a message to the media and also to Pogba and his agent. 2-0 shows just how keen he was to get him on.

2 nil... against 10 men

I went on Twitter earlier, Ronaldo had retweeted about Pogba expected to sign a 4 year contract. I don't mean it must be true, its just I find it interesting he retweeted it.

People keep on making the point it should be easier for him to break intoa a team with a supposed weakness in midfield. However the issue is that as long as we dont kill teams off SAF is not going to risk a change because a player is short of game time.

If we were trouncing teams then Pogba would have played more games as being a sub earlier on. It may seem counter intuitive but sometimes it can be easier getting playing time in a stronger team playing well.

Made 17 out of 18 passes. 6 out of 7 in the attacking third.

Good to see him getting minutes, as you guys have said it would suggest that he's staying. Hard to judge him on this game though ability wise as the game was pretty much over. He looked neat and tidy, though he does not look like a defensive midfielder at all.

Looking good at the moment. Might still be undecided at worst. Agreed a new deal at best.

Thats because he isnt a defensive midfielder, he's a creative/attacking midfielder

As in

Ronaldo, Christiano., Manchester United (Manchester: Manchester United Football Club, 2003-2009)

They're (Stan) on talksport saying he's on the verge of signing a four year contract.

Cool, I wasn't judging him but I'd heard that he was a bit more of a holding player and could have been a good alternative to Carrick in some games but that's not going to be the case it seems.

I don't think you're following the real Ronaldo. Nothing from him about Pogba.

Fergie just said he's still trying to make his mind up

Yep.

@nickcoppack: Paul Pogba has NOT signed a new deal with #mufc. "He's still trying to make up his mind," according to Sir Alex.

Still a good sign though that he's gone from not featuring for us for a while to being on the bench and playing in this one.

Alex Ferguson on Paul Pogba on MUTV: "he's still trying to make his mind up but he knows where he should be

So not much change, but definitely some encouragement.
