Phil Jones

He was a pub player today. You could see he has lost all confidence. Well he's in with the big boys now, and this is his first real test. It will only make him stronger over time, we need to be patient with him.

He's been in the team from the start of the season without a break. So many little moves broke down with him and there was a lack of quality in his overall game. I think we saw some signs of mental and physical tiredness in him. I'd also say he's been shaken by a few knocks he's had recently. If our defenders are available then give him a little break.

He'll be better for it.

Good talent he may be, but as I said a month+ ago in this thread when everything good about United was supposedly Jones according to many on here, I remained confused why Smalling was now hardly talked about and became what Robin (Smalling) is to Batman (jones)...

This guy has nothing on Smalling's talent in defence.

Deffo the weakest United player on the pitch which was a surprise to be honest. All over the place but hopefully learnt something along the way.

He needs a rest, was pretty rubbish today. A drop of form was going to come eventually. He's played loads of football this season, especially for a 19 year old whos in his first season at a big club.

Give Rafael a few games and let him rest up.

Shows why youngsters should be given time and few good displays not being blown out of proportion

I think we have put too much pressure on the lad in his debut year. Fergie should really pick a position for him and stick with it.

Young and learning and most likely tired after being a mainstay through all of these defensive injuries.

I thought he was pretty bad today, he needs a rest.

Start Rafael against Bolton.

Not a good performance today but I don't think it helps being played in a different position every week. Could do with a rest (other injuries permitting) and then come back and play in a regular slot.

I love him to bits, and think he will go on to be a great player. But I have to agree, lots of basic mistakes today, hopefully he will come away from todays game with some lessons learned.

Yes. Suprised me how many times he failed to keep the ball from going out of play.

He's knackered after the amount of football he's played. The changing of his position doesn't help either.

He did some good and bad, a bit more that was bad then good though. Did offer an option on the right wing at times, and worked hard as ever, but struggled abit technically which is surprising. He'll learn from this game though

evra for me. he was caught out more so than jones. slow to react and was as guilty IMO as scholesy on the second goal.

He was pretty terrible today... but hey, he's been excellent in most other games this season, so it's just one of those things. Don't think there's any need to make a massive deal out of it.

He definitely needs a rest.

He needs to be taken out for a few games I think. He was all over the place today. Making mistakes, trying too hard to get involved...seemed to be trying to make amends for the Newcastle game and forcing himself into errors.

He'll be fantastic, but it's no different to Rooney or Ronaldo or anyone else at that age. He doesn't know how to play badly yet.

If anything he tried too hard today, forcing balls, taking sloppy touches because he was trying to do everything too quickly. Needs a couple of games off and a chat with Fergie.

Now that Smalling is back, as well as Evans and Rafael on their way back
It really is the time if possible to give Jones a rest, he's had a really good start to his United career, but I think some time out of the spotlight would do him good, especially as a few mistakes are creeping into his game

Really hope he is given a break soon. Was real sloppy today and probably played through a bit of pain at times.

Let Rafael get back his right back spot please Fergie and don't run Jones into the ground.

Was he that bad? I thought he had a decent game though his touch was off a bit.

Totally echo these thoughts.. his fine start was a bonus, and no matter how impressive he's been (Very imo) he's not the finished article. Still, a steep learning curve is the best way to look at it now in hindsight, sometimes you have to remember he's just 19 years old, and for a 19 year old with such little experience he has more than held his own imo, but perhaps a player at this stage of his development shouldn't be a 1st team regular - no matter how certain I am he will be in the future.

His problem is only inexperience, very difficult to play CB effectively for a club like Utd. Puts a lot into every game i feel, so he could definitely do with a couple of weeks off.

Been a hectic start to his Utd career, and we have depended on him a bit too much really, so no surprise it's finally took it's toll. I would still like to see him feature in midfield when he does come back. He can learn a lot from playing with the likes of Carrick, Scholes and Giggs. Be a great learning opportunity for him to play with Scholes, one that he probably never thought he would have.

Has been poor since moving back todefence. Give him a break, play rafael forthe next games and he will come back fine

Yeah I think he needs a rest too. As you say Rafael is back so we should bring him in. Also tbh with our defenders being so fragile I don't want us to keep playing the only players we have atm who can play centre back at the same time.

Terrible performance today but happens to the best of them.
