Phil Jones

not his best but still put every ounce into it as usual, he also gets at least one good whack a game but he just soldiers on through it

he's played so much football for us this year, especially for a nineteen year old in his first season, its no surprise to see him fizzling a little

a week or two off will do him the world of good

I've just seen our Phil near my mums. He used to live round the corner so guessing he's home for Sunday lunch! It was weird, I pulled up behind his car (RS5, dirty as feck) and had a funny feeling it was going to be Jones. Followed it and it went where I'd been told he used to live, then saw him pull up and get out.

Had a weird feeling it was him. Had to find out didn't I.

I didn't, I just drove past and made awkward eye contact as he got out his car. I wish I had done to be honest but a lad I used to hang around with is good mates with him so will probably get another chance.

Stalky stalk.

This makes me wonder how often you must follow cars on the chance it might be a celebrity.

I think Fergie said he had a knock from the City game but I reckon it was just an excuse to give him a rest with no questions asked. It was a good opportunity for it and will have done him good.

Is that in Leyland?

I don't think JOnes was injured. He had a bad game the previous one and SAF decided to give him a rest. Can't help feeling that for Anderson, Smalling, & Jones that Liverpool and Arsenal are in mind.

feck sakes, look a nasty one, he was beating the grass in frustration, what rotten luck.

Terrible for the lad.

But does anyone think he slips too much in general? Wondering if it's a flaw he can correct.

Don't know about slipping but he never lands very well. He often lands full force on a straight, locked leg.

Don't think I'd know much about that. But he's generally quite clumsy on the pitch. Loses his balance quite often. That can't be too good for staying injury free.

Punched the ground in frustration after going down, hope it's not as serious at it seems. I'll be pissed if it's another ankle injury, I'm telling ya these football boots are to blame.

I'd rather it was his ankle than the knee he did his cruciate on.

Also, it's down the pitches these days IMO.

I'm very vulnerable to rolling my ankle whenever I'm playing sports, think it's part to do with running technique, strength of all the muscle in the area, boots and the pitch! It's such a weird type of pain.

It happens when you try to change your forward/straight run into a sidestep motion but you have too much pace and the weight of the body is too much for a planted ankle to take.

I used to get that a lot. Turned out I´d gotten a little flat footed according to a physio. Wore an insert in my shoes for months and stopped turning the ankle.

How does that work then? Flimsy boots might make players prone to metarsal injuries but nobody has worn boots that support the ankle for at least 50 years now.

Interesting! I was literally just discussing this very issue with my friend at the gym on Friday, I don't play much sports these days but he plays every weekend and says he has a similar vulnerability to this problem, I'll definitely suggest it to him - mind you he's an Arsenal fan so maybe not for a few days...

Just to add to my earlier post - I think that the way Jones did it, it always increases the likelihood of that injury if you're going from a straight sprint to a sidestep, and by a huge scale I reckon. All that weight (Jones is a tank) and momentum is way too much for something as weak as the ankle. If someone is particularly vulnerable to their ankle rolling over, then for them it can simply happen when they're running in a straight line, as happens with me.

I don't know, was just annoyed at the time with the prospect of another ankle ligament injury. My apologies.

His all action, uncompromising style certainly can't help when it comes to these sort of things. He always seems to be at high intensity, if that makes sense.

No need to apologise. Just wondering what you meant. Thought you might be on about blades vs studs or something.

Yeah, it's just Hernandez, Cleverley and now Jones have turned ankles and Rooney had problems a few seasons ago, just annoying. It's a mixture of things though.

They need to strap their ankles if they continue to turn on them

Jones could face Liverpool | Manchester United News, Fixtures, Results, Transfers | Sky Sports

Manchester United are 'optimistic' defender Phil Jones will have recovered from his ankle injury in time for Saturday's FA Cup fourth-round tie at fierce rivals Liverpool.

Positive in terms of getting a strong team out this weekend however him being played so often with niggling injuries is surely something we'd not do if it weren't for the injuries we've suffered. Hopefully it won't have a long term affect on the lad
