Poch would be the ideal replacement for Mou but why would he leave Spurs for United? Given the damage done by the last three managers it may be difficult to attract a truly top, proven manager. We may have to go with Giggs, with all of the risks -- but potential upside -- that brings.

What upside?

If anyone really thinks that Pochettino might have any desire at all to come work for United at the current moment, I envy your optimism.

How do you know he can? As I said we are in a precarious position and another failed manager would be disasterous. We are not in a position to take risks appointing a young unproven manager.
Del Bosque knew the club inside out before he was given the job full time. He even managed Real for a few games as an interimn manager. Its a different gravy appointing a manager not from within. Same goes for Pep he managed Barca B he was all about the club ethos and playing style. Hard to compare them with Howe who would be an outsider. Not to mention the fact Barca and Real weren't as crap as we are if my memory serves me right.
Should we give the job to Mckenna, Carrick or Butt? They know the club inside out too. I personally would be happy if we gave it to Mckenna.

How do I know he can? If Howe was given the job I would expect the club would have someone who knows the club inside out to assist him, I've mentioned Rene Mulensteen in one of my earlier posts. The point is, he would have people already at the club to assist him in getting acclimatised to such a big club and a DoF would be in place to help with transfers etc. If Real Madrid who are the most successful club of all time had no problem in offering the job to Julian Nagelsmann who was only 29 at the time because of his footballing mantra. We shouldn't either with a 40 year old Howe.

And it doesn't matter who we bring in, there's no guarantee of anything, like we're currently seeing with our super dooper experienced manager who has won champions league titles in the past but has us with a negative goal difference and the worst start in 28 years. I want to see us get someone that plays exciting football and Eddie Howe I believe should be given a chance.

Problem right now for a manager coming or staying put like Poch is Pep and Abu Dhabi combination is extremely difficult to beat.

Once Pep fecks off, the top 5 have a good chance of winning the league. Spurs have put together a superb run, most seasons it would be right up there. A rebuild is needed here and by the time that's done possibly Pep is gone and Poch could've stayed at Spurs and win the league in their new ground if he can maintain the level they're at now.

Nicky Butt is a natural coach and leader. Will not cost much for the club and will not be a risk. Because of United current postion in the league and table. Im 100 % Butt will not get any worse than Mourinho right now. Mourinho is really close to hit the bottom with United now. Nicky Butt is coaching United promising youngster right now. Chong, Gomes and the others. Adding buying a natural dominate player like Axel Witsel next summer and a top CB close to world class level.

Nicky Butt + Witsel + A top CB. And if United get De Jong and Sancho beside those 3. If not De Jong who will might join Barca, then the alternative is Ruben Neves.

A top Belgium cm and a top France cm in Pobga. Witsel and Pogba, adding with De Jong and Sancho. Then you are building a team to reach the top.

De Jong - Witsel/Neves - Pogba. Its a top 4 cm. The best of the nation team cm players.

Back to Butt. He has the natural coaching ability. I can easily see that. And if he is meant to coach United A team, its not much everyone can do against it. If someone are meant to become king. Its not everyone cant do against it. He will find his way to it. Things will goes his way.

And about Mourinho. After sacking LVG, and Mourinho withouth job then. I think it meant to happen like that. United and Wood wouldnt go for a unproven manager. But after two proven manager has failed. Then its no more risk to give Butt 1-2 years time to build his winning team.

So i go for a interim coach. And i vote for Nicky Butt. And if United is 10-12 point behind a top 4 team by Christmas. I think United shall pay the end packet for Mourinho. Give the interim coach to teach the players the way he want the team to play until the rest of the season. 3-4 last games of the season are not enough. Butt got to show a dominating team consistent over months period. 3-4 last games are to few to judge someone work to give him 1-2 new years. Make it easy for the interim coach, to know and find out where United can and need to strenght, to go into the summer transfer window. That can be crucial. Not only know the pontential of his squad, but the level of the top teams too. Coaching against the top teams, to know the top teams level. Too reach their level or become better.

Simeone is very similar to Jose. Ultra defensive and focuses on getting results.
Doing better than Jose though . Never die mentality, quick transitions, high pressing , giving chances to youth.

Regardless of getting in a DOF, If we hire a progressive manager, it'll show we've learnt something. We'll have learnt not to hire defensive/past it managers.
Bullshit. The manager matters feck all when the football operations is a mess. We don't have a long term plan, don't have a footballing identity we want to pursue and its reflected in our recruitment. Merely hiring a mamager won't change that one bit. The poor guy will be harmstrung by our office pitch imcompetence. Even if he is better suited to us than our current mistake in charge

We haven't had a long term plan for the last 15 years. We had a manager in SAF who was a genius though.

I disagree. I want a DOF, too, but a manager who's with the times like all our rivals have we'll have us much better off. Keep our current board and replace Mourinho with any of our rivals managers bar maybe Emery and we'd be in a much better place.

Favre is very good and would be a step in the right direction.
Is he good with young modern players? Sorry I don't know much about him.

My hope is that we'll be ready to take over the mantle once Pep does feck off. So let's hope he wants to play golf first when we are finally above Liverpool.

Why?

Because it's the next level of progression for his career.

The MUFC job is the poison chalice.
Since SAF retired, every manager has under performed.
It would take a brave man to agree to be the next MUFC manager, unless he has nothing to lose.

Is that why Atletico have so far scored 17 goals to Man Utd 20 this season in league, & 10 less than our goal shy players last year. If he had prime Messi & Ronaldo in his team, they would score half of Barcelona & Madrid. If all sides were like his football would be dead.

yes he is, he's a forward thinking coach, and happy to integrate plenty of younger players.

But the chances of him going to the PL are slim to none.

He's a highly regarded coach, and has been for years, but has followed a different career path you could say, hasn't even seeked the 'big' appointments. The one he has now is by far the biggest, and at his age, that is quite something.

Would agree with this. I do think we’d get a slightly better tune out of the squad with a different coach and one who’s suited to the sort of football we want to see - but there’s no way I’d see us being successful.

We’re a business who happen to have a football team rather than a club striving for success on the pitch. Until that equation changes, we can’t put anyone we want in charge but we won’t win the league.

Thanks guys for your input on Favre.

Seems like he might not be someone who'd want to be United manager at this time..? He sounds like he would fit.

I would say someone like him or Jardim. Really think we need to just go back to our club identity and worry about top four/trophies afterwards. The quick fix stuff is not working. We need a forward thinking coach who's also a good motivator.

And they were only minutes away from the top spot yesterday while we were busy scoring goals against one of the worst team -form wise- at OT.

Point being, he is still a better option.

We were still a 'business' even when we were successful. The most important thing to attend to now is hiring the right manager - which of course is proving to be a bitch of a task with our board.

Simeone is pretty much modern Mourinho.

I respect him but he's definitely not what we need.

At this point anyone would be better but personally i'd like someone who will bring some entertainment back.

Under the Glazers? The genius of the manager papered the cracks. All we are seeing now is reality. Every decision is made based on £. The only strategy is make as much of it as possible - if that happens to coincide with some trophies then great....as long as £££ keep rolling in.

Allegri and Simeone would fit well with the current set of players and wouldn't need a major rebuild. The pressing game can slowly be instilled in our team.

i just can't see hin moving to the PL. He's 61 now, he's been coaching since 1991, and has never made any sort of move towards a job there. He seems comfortable in French and German speaking countries and leagues! I'd be stunned if all of a sudden he'd fancy such a move. And I honestly don't see him leaving Dortmund for a while anyway. He has little reason too, chances are he'll become an instant legend by winning the league this season and then can go on from there. Wouldn't be surprised if this is his last major club coaching job.

And that's my second set - favre,Wenger, Bielsa very exciting but highly risky.

Anyway, Ed targets only out of contract managers. so we need to stop thinking about managers already in contract, unless they get sacked or something.

There're only 3 managers out of contract now, Jardim, Zidane and Conte.

1- Conte : He just refused Madrid because of not getting full power, and fell with Chelsea board due to transfers problem, not to mention leaving Juve mid way in preseason because they didn't give him what he needed in market. I'm not sure he's going to entertain the idea of working with Ed tbh. Don't have any problem with his style btw, it's actually pretty decent on the eye when applied well, but he wants full control and he's not going to get it with Ed around. He doesn't shy of slaughtering the board in media too.

2- Zidane : Talked about him several times, very good manager, not sure he's what we need now with his lack of definitive style and the task of rebuilding. Can see him ending in the same way Mourinho ended, but in a more "classy" way. We should think about him when we're sure we have a team ready to win.

3- Jardim : My best shot. I don't think he's going to win much here in terms of trophies, but he's exactly what we need for 2-3 years. Will develop our young players, play very decent football, coach our players how to attack and build the squad well in 2-3 years. We can then move on from him to someone like Zidane to start winning trophies. City are going to dominate the next few years anyway, so no need to be in a hurry for a short term fix imo.

If that are the only options available, Jardim would be my choice.

Exactly my thinking. Funnily enough, we probably should have tried to get him after LVG.
In any case I wish the board would at least interview him. I really believe this is the way to go.
I would get him in now when there's hardly any pressure as no one expects anything of us, and give him the rest of the season to get the players ready for next season imho.

And that's my second set - favre,Wenger, Bielsa very exciting but highly risky.
Favre would be good and Bielsa eventhough I admire his style I feel he's risky due to his craziness lol
Wenger I wouldn't want at all. He's finished and has been for many years.

Maybe we should have a new poll? Something more realistic as of course Guardiola for e.g. ain't ever coming here.

The first half of your post correctly lists what's wrong with the club, but how does that hamstring the manager? What you described is the poor process that leads to hiring the wrong manager, not that it hamstrings the manager.
