Portsmouth v Manchester United

Agree with some of the comments about Nani, if he doesn't feature again its a pretty big sign that SAF has had it with him.

Not necessarily. He might be given time out of the lime light, a break might be just what he needs. Not to mention he was on the bench in the last game wasn't he?

I hate when we face teams with a new manager. Especially pompey as they have tended to be hard for us to beat. I'm hoping for a comfortable 0-2 Rooney scoring both.

Avram Grant's last game in charge as a manager came against us in Moscow... Revenge time? :nervous:

We should be fine, though. Portsmouth are utter shite.

van der Sar

O'Shea • Brown • Vidic • Evra

Valencia • Fletcher • Carrick • Giggs

Berbatov • Rooney

Substitutes: Kuszczak; Neville; Rafael; Scholes; Anderson; Nani; Owen

3-1 United. A Rooney brace and Valencia to score.

To be fair to Portsmouth quite a few of their results haven’t always mirrored the performance and could quite easily have gone the other way...add to that the new manager coming in the ’Manchester United are in town’ factor and our less than perfect record at fratton park over the years and i think this game will be a bit tougher than some on here think...should still win though.

Hope David James dosnt play...always seems to have blinders against us especailly down there...

If we win at Fratton Park we will be the first team to record 2000 league wins.
That's from the beginning of time.
Portsmouth mystery owner Al Faraj is to make his first appearance at the game today. Nobody has ever seen him.
Fergie will be able to communicate by phone, or any other device, with Phelan, during the game. (If I was him I'd do that for every game). He can also give a half time talk to the players. The ban, apparently, is only to keep him away from the officials ().
Fratton park is a dustbin. If we score early that's the end of that. If it goes on with us in peril the noise will increase and cause problems.
Early goal. 3-0 comfortable win. Very different from Wednesday.

As a previous poster has said Fratton Park is a bit of a dump but was one of the best away days last year - on a par with Fulham in the FACup.

Played well last year minus Ronaldo against a much better side than they are likely to field this year (Diarra, Crouch, Diop, Defoe, Campbell, Dystin, James, Johnson et al) kept the ball well and Fletch scored a good goal.

Got my ticket yesterday (phew - unfortunately on this occasion amongst the Pompey supporters) but hoping for more of the same!

Chill in the air and Utd get the PL show on the road. A reasonably comfortable win - 1-3

Two consecutive starts for Neville?

Replace him with O'shea and you'd have the first eleven name for name i guess.

------------------Van der Sar------------------
Neville------Brown--------Vidic-------------Evra
------------Fletcher---Giggs/Scholes-----------
Valencia------------------------------------Nani
------------Rooney-----Berbatov---------------

Is what I'm expecting, hopefully Tosic on the bench

I am hoping for a change in the tide of things and bang in as many goals as we can. Attack from the off and take the most convincing win of our season.

That's all i'll ask for ;)

No need to rush Berba, I would rather see either Macheda or Welbeck partner Rooney upfront than Owen for this game but knowing SAF he will probably start with the Welsh midget

New manager and all that game raising bollox ffs

Seems to happen at least once a season.

Alot is being made about Grants arrival.

Remember last time he took control of a team, the first game after which they played us?

I know they are different teams, situations and the like, but just saying. its not always a positive impact.

True, but they'll be playing at home this time around which can make a difference.

It should be noted that Pompey despite all their losses, usually dont lose more than by 1 goal. We should of course expect a win but I am not complaining if its a scrappy 1 goal win

Again, true. But its a Pompey team that have been god-awful most of the year. Extremely disorganised defensively, which isn't easily fixed by getting a new manager. Motivational no doubt, but in organisation, not so much so.

Big question mark is wether Giggs or Nani plays, the rest picks itself.

love to see Obertan play...I think he deserves a spot after his performance midweek. Throw him in ahead of Nani.
