Post-match discussion

When Spurs scored , i didn't have an iota of doubt that we'll not get back. Credit to Jose for making me feel that way since SAF retired. Our team is very hard to beat and we're only gonna get better.

I don't understand this sentiment. We didn't just shut up shop an nd defend. We ceded possession and focused on counter attack. It worked fantastically well. We continued to create good chances after the second goal. In fact we looked more likely to score than Spurs
Exactly. Spurs created feck all and were reduced to long range shit shots. I'd understand being afraid if they had chances after chances but we controlled them well. The tactics were spot on.

Me too, I knew they won’t score. We were so organized at the back and happy to let them pass the ball outside the box without any penetration, forcing them to shoot from distance. That was impressive.

Yeah, agree, if anything the goal seemed more likely to come from our counter.

Hahahahahaaaaa. Twats. Let's buy Eriksen though.

Why do we keep starting these big games so horrendously??!!We were woeful in the first 20 minutes,it could have been game over really....but once we got a grip on the game we played really well.Jones and Smalling were terrific,Young and Valencia buckled up after a horrible first half hour...Our midfielders grew into the game and Alexis' work ethic and desire was just phenomenal. He scored a great goal today and that should do his confidence the world of good....

All in all,it was a great day for us and I"m just glad that we have something to look forward to next month....GGMU!!

Who would he replace, though?
Surely he would be Pogba's replacement.

Herrera, Lingard, maybe Pogba on rare occasions. Doesn't really matter that much tbh, I think he;s the best no.10 in the league and he'd fit our style reasonably well.

Great cup tie and a good win.

Top performances from Smalling, Herrera and Sanchez.

That today was a United team with personality. Lukaku gives you that. Sanchez. Pogba, today. Matic. Herrera. Proud of them

Jose seriously needs to stop motivating players for some games and not others. He's so dangerous like that...the man just doesn't give a shit!

It's great to have that belief again and we don't let our heads drop.

I like that even when 2-0 down, we still have a good chance of winning.
I don't know what happens at half time, but we seem to wake up in the 2nd half.

I remember back in the late 90s, when we could concede 1 or 2 goals and the response from us would be like we were rabid animals mauling the opponent. We aren't quite there yet, but we are getting to that point. Our weakness is our poor performances against lower quality opposition. Hopefully, Jose can fix this for next year.

Why only 8 pages in this post match thread? It's a damn Semi final of the FA Cup, which we won against a good side and people are not posting!!!

I can't deny that Mourinho has really sapped my enthusiasm but that was the best big match performance we've had under him. They swamped us for the first 20 minutes but once Herrera and Pogba got a foothold in the midfield we wrestled control of the game from them and were the better team for the remaining 70 minutes, keeping our tempo high and always looking comfortable and with the potential to pick them off with a 3rd goal.

Mourinho gets the job done in a big cup game again.

Was a difficult first 20 minutes where we struggled with their tempo but once we got to grips with it, we kept all their big players quiet and they didn't create anything second half. That sort of performance is why we signed Sanchez too, involved in both of the goals but still working tirelessly throughout.

Southgate must have been miserable today seeing how Kane disappeared in such a big game and Rashford fumbled when he had a clear chance to cause havoc.

Maybe Jones and Smalling cheered him up a bit though.

That is what happens when you warming a bench more than you are playing. Same goes for Martial, can’t expect them to be at the top of their games when they getting a couple of minutes every other or couple of weeks.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho speaking to BBC Sport
We deserve it. If we split the match into periods we were the best team for many of these periods. Even when they had the ball when we were winning we were totally in control.

"We lost control after the 1-0. At half-time we spoke - we came back late for the second half because we spoke a lot - and organised ourselves. When you play away from home the supporters were phenomenal.

"We should ask ourselves why there is too many critics on all of us? We can finish second with six more points. To do that with all the fantastic teams we play against will be an achievement for a club that couldn't do it for a few years now.

"And it will be a fourth final in three years. So, maybe too much criticism."

More from Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho speaking to BBC Sport:"The players were all very good and when they are all good the team is solid and we can play against any team including Spurs, who are one of the top teams in Europe.

"It was a great achievement to beat them in their stadium.

"I had this morning one simple SMS (text message) from one of my bosses Ed Woodward - he was saying that 'I believe we are going to win but if we don't the season is a good season, a season where everyone is professional and everyone is bringing the club in the right direction'. That's my feeling too.

"We can close the season in a final and that's a good achievement. But we need to focus on our six points and we deserve to finish second and to do that behind a fantastic team is a good achievement."

Don't think Smalling is in his plans for England!!

What was the BBC’s plan if it went to pens?

Credit to Chris Smalling, I don’t like him but he stepped up today.

Both goals came from winning ball in dangerous positions, by PP and Sanchez

Proper performance after a shaky first 10.

We looked solid.
Very hard to play against.

That was good. The top class players turned it on and won the game. Just like it should be.

My only negative is that our left and right backs were very boring. Maybe that was the game plan but I can't remember the last time Valencia did anything exciting - though he doesn't do much wrong either.

Yoooooiioiuiiiiiijjjooo[oooooooooooooooooooooooo.

we're the famous Man United and we're off to Wembley!!!

Feels like today's game should've been the final. Spurs are better than Chelsea/Southampton and we had to beat them at their own turf. Whoever wins tomorrow would be scared shitless of facing us in the final.

Despite that bald cnut named Anthony Taylor's and some dirty little bottler shits' (Dele Alli, Dier, Vertonghen etc.) efforts, we managed to get to the final. Great performance in the second half. Pogba, Sanchez and Herrera particularly were fantastic. Let's wait our opponent for the final like this  :
